What really sucks is that our societies aren't designed to have anyone at home to care for our elders. With couples both having to work full time, there's not enough time for childcare let alone elders too. It's so sad. You either choose borderline poverty or a care home. With the taxes people pay? Your end game years should be taken care of completely.
Not to mention our society is very little regard for the elderly where is most of the elderly in high regard Americans generally look at them as a throwaway nuisance it's not right one of the things that makes me ashamed of us
Nursing homes are very sad, lonely places for those who don't have somebody to care for them, or they are too far away, or they just don't want to - especially now with Covid, it's like they are stuck someplace where 1 person who comes in infected will kill the whole facility, faster than whatever ailments (besides age) got you there in the first place. So scary for all the caregivers too. 😢
i cant believe the guy who..did that to the three month old girl. oh my god ive never felt so sick. i live with a month old baby and the thought of ANYONE doing anything remotely like that to him. or any other child. god thats sick. i hope he fucking rots in the lowest part of hell

Up until I got a flu shot about too or three years ago, my pain tolerance to needles was horrible to the point I'd cry from getting pricked but since then I barely feel anything and whatever I do feel is easily comparable to when I accidentally almost sliced a small section of my right thumb off (using an apple slicer for the first time and injured myself by making a bad judgment call of how to manually remove the apple core), which shockingly for its severity, I also barely felt. That day I learned to pull from the top and not push from the bottom and that cotton tee shirts are highly absorbent and make great temporary bandages until you can get a real bandage on a bleeding wound.
In my experience, nursing homes are downright horrible. They nearly killed my grandmother with blood thinners twice because the doctor wouldn't read her records and just put her on it, and the same horrible doctors worked for *two different nursing homes*. My grandma might have survived her illness if not for him. The others she went to treated her horribly. We had no way to care for her because my mother worked full time and I was in middle school. She ended up coming home for her last 2 weeks to die surrounded by her pets and family. I still have her cat and her little old dog.
I know this is late but I just wanted to say, I'm so, so, very sorry for you and yours loss but at least she was able to be with her family and her pets in her last weeks, which is so much better than being alone in a horrible nursing home. I do hope she went without pain and knowing just how much she was loved and that she's at peace now. I also want to say that you're a very kind, compassionate, caring person for taking in her fur babies and loving them as your own. People like you are very rare to find and I wish more people could be like you but then, you wouldn't be so rare huh? So I guess that's a good thing? Haha. Anyway, thank you for being who you are and I'm sorry this comment is so long but I hope it at least puts a smile on your face! 😊🖤
@ kuro shi I am sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with one Nursing Home. It seems like many people made errors. It appears your family did everything they could to advocate for your grandmother. Hopefully you wrote reviews on these Nursing Homes and let the State Board know also. I don't know where you live but I do know there are areas where NH care is not regulated or does not follow regulations as stringently as they should. More financial assistance needs to be provided so that high quality care can be guaranteed for all residents by providing a substantial wage to the staff. Its good she could be with family at the end. This, I'm sure brought peace to everyone, especially her.
Nurse here. I heard one of my colleagues calling for help. I went into the bathroom and there was a sweet, demented old lady with crap all over her hands, her clothes and her dentures (that were still in her mouth). My colleague kept the patients hands busy while I removed the woman’s poo covered dentures. It took us about half an hour to clean the lady enough So that we could remover her clothing to shower her. We got down to the under clothing and removed the lady’s pad. It was pristine, not even a trace of poo. Somehow she had helped herself to someone else’s poo and was having a lovely time eating it.

I had hot grease splatter on one of my hands when I was cooking once, 6 2D burns, 3 3D burns. I didn't feel the 3D burns at all, but the 2D burns were so painful that I couldn't stand it unless my hand was under cold water. Hubby didn't think I needed to go to the ER, and I finally told him, "IT'S MY HAND!!" and drove myself. They shot me full of morphine and kept me overnight.
The baby and elderly ones always get me. I helped my mom care for her elderly neighbor of 20 years with dementia because she wanted to die at home. She was an absolutely wonderful woman and it really opened my eyes how much work dementia patients are especially when they become bed bound but for her I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I came to Jane's room (Names changed) only to see her nice freshly made bed to hav suddenly chnaged from white to a very deep brown and Jane chewing on something. I waved to her and she waved back and carried on. I then had to get to more people to help get her to and the room back to normal colour. Good Times
Disclaimer, I'm not a medical professional (yet). But a few days ago, a dude enrolled in the same college as me got hit by a train. And amazingly, he survived long enough to go into surgery. Unfortunately, he died on that table.
I can handle blood and gore. I can handle vomit and puss. But I can't handle lazy people who allow themselves to become covered in cockroaches, feces, etc.. I would blow up and lose my job.
I need to also add that not all Long Term Care Facilities are bad. The ones I worked at had excellent scores with the State Health Department as well as directly expressed satisfaction from family and Residents. I would not have worked at them otherwise. There was only one that I was disappointed in the level of care and informed the Director and Administration as to why I couldn't continue working.
The chicken lady one is firmly set in my memory now. Gives a new meaning to KFC's "Finger lick'n Good" or Popeye's "Love that Chicken at Popeyes!" adds. lol
When I was a kid I had a cast on my whole arm. I got fleas in it from a mates dog. Sprayed fly spray in it using a straw when I had it cut off the next day I was covered in blisters😂
Worst story I heard would be the guy who fell off his roof onto his shovel that was standing up from earlier digging. Went through his anus at an angle which meant it uh. inevitably exited the colon on its own path (I can't remember where it came out of). I could not believe that guy survived and didn't have like blood poisoning from fecal matter AT LEAST. This was some ER stories show and in the same episode a skydiving couple was skewered together on a fence post like kebobs but it's the shovel guy that REALLY makes me shudder.
