Nice idea, and well preformed. But many hobbyists, dont have access to a 3D printer. You use yours in almost every project. I know you love yours. I challenge you to make a project without the 3d-printer. Do a project where you use more accessable tools.
Once again a cool project. Only thing which would make it even better is a swicth that controls the amount of glue that‘s being extruded. So instead of the trigger to control the amount, a switch with several options and the trigger is just for starting the extruding. Keep up the good work.
kenrick encinas good point. One way would be to sand of the dirt if you can peel the hardened glue of the surface. And I think filtering should be possible because hot glue has a low melting point, in other words the glue can be pressed through a filter while it's melted. In some applications you wouldn't care about dirt.
one of your best projects yet, it would be great to see you tackle this again, changing the few things you saw post finish, and how about an adjustable stop block on the trigger so you don't need to keep your finger constant and risk messing up. and of course putting a nice clean case around it.
sooo... how about a self-reloading, adjustable "tip-length", glue-gun? Maybe a revolver or belt "magazine", with multiple tips, (different length with simple connections to be changed at need), maybe with a longer "warm part" so that you can use higher speeds, (for when you need to use hot glue to fill a volume rather than just gluing). BTW, I thought there was conductive hot-glue? Maybe make your own? OH! how about a "make-your own hot-glue episode", where you can make a "conductive" glue, chocolate 'glue', heat-transferring glue (for CPUs that's absolutely non-conductive), and other fun things :-O
Hey Ben. You are awesome! I've been looking for a good pair of bluetooth noise canceling gaming headphones and haven't been able to find any that suit my needs and my budget. Can you make a video showing us how to mod a pair of howard leight impact sport electronic ear muffs into a good noise cancelation bluetooth gaming headset with mic? Adding a rechargable battery pack to replace the battery would be great. Please consider this. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people will enjoy such an episode. If anyone else is interested in this mod, please make mention of it so that Ben will be more likely to make it happen! Thanks for everything you do for us Ben!
Great idea but I got a bigger challenge for Ben. Take one of those great idea and see if you could refine the concept, organize production and distribution all the way to market. That would be a very interesting show to follow on youtube.
in the beginning of the video, your american-style face mimics and speech we usually see on tv shows/commercials are pretty funny :))) nice project buddy!
Ben, If i was you I'd be patenting some of these ideas. This one you just designed has the potential of making millions. I know you're here to teach and explore new things, but you're an inventor and some of this stuff could make you rich. Be smart man and get you some patents before you see others getting rich off of your own concepts and ideas.
That is not how patents work. You can't just make something and get a patent for it. You have to be able to demonstrate how your device does something wholly unique from other products out there and also make sure there are no existing patents for whatever element you are trying to patent. You obviously can't patent a hot glue gun you made. You could maybe patent the retracting extrusion head. But I can almost guarantee that it has been done before and would not be accepted as a patent. Almost every single thing Ben has made could not be patented. All of his creations either utilize the patented work of other companies, do something that has been done before or are simply modifications that fall under free use.
Hi any chance of you doing an internal components breakdown on a butane powered glue gun there isn't one video on the whole of TH-cam. Have an old parkside gas glue gun and the ignition is broke (won't light it) have replacement but don't know how to fit it. Cheers phil
David Sn Sorry, the Ben Heck Show is no longer on Revision3's network. You can keep watching our show on TH-cam or element14.com/tbhs - Thanks for watching!
troll spoted! Actually that kind of acting is what makes it funny and unique. Theres nothing to be changed about that in my opinion. Also, what happended to Rusty?
Trigger: Electronics: A pulse or circuit that initiates the action of another component BTW, Thats what the trigger is for, to NOT constantly supply hot glue. Only when the "trigger" initiates. I thought it was quite clear what going on but I guess I was wrong...Hmmm
greenmanmo I know what an electronic trigger is, but the OP was referring to the xbox trigger... "I thought it was quite clear what going on but I guess I was wrong...Hmmm " oh the irony...
Actually the addition that first hit my mind is some sort of stock sensor. it detects when a new stick is loaded and auto feeds it to the end of the current stick eliminating the loading back-feed problem and also (if enclosed) tells you when you need to add a stick.
I'd still like to see an alarm clock for the deaf, where it converts sound to a receiver that vibrates and can be light enough to attach to a wrist or appendage.
ben thank you for this video because i used the glue gun wrong . and was thinking why doesnt it glue properly, the problem was i didnt let the glue gun to heat up to the right temperature
You could glue a bunch of sticks together to make one continuous stick or better yet how about a holder for the sticks so they would drop in automatically
No Ben you have not finished the project yet, I was really hopping you would have completed it by enclosing it in a case, come on that's an 2/3 finished project
your heat source far to weak too so it makes zero sense to have a motor drive the stick if you not have enought heat to melt the stick at same pace as the motor go
Seriously this could be an item for a kickstarter :) I'd buy one

Great build , I was thinking several months ago about a better glue gun . And Ben comes up with one , how great is that
What if you need to hot glue a big magnet to something? Hot glue everywhere!!
Once again a cool project. Only thing which would make it even better is a swicth that controls the amount of glue that‘s being extruded. So instead of the trigger to control the amount, a switch with several options and the trigger is just for starting the extruding. Keep up the good work.
You really need to make a phaser style body for this one Ben. Well Done guys!
Considering the pathetic state of development of current glue guns, this would be a winner for crafters if it went into production!
The fact that glue was waisted to make this video gave my an idea:
make a glue recycler, by combining a shredder and a filastruder.
Give this man a medal.
Do this.
you sir, is a genius
but almost all of my wasted glue has impurities like paper, dirt, wood splinters, etc. we need to get a way to easily and reliably clean the glue.
kenrick encinas good point.

I love this channel... even the skits.
OK, especially the skits.

the power of glue. in the palm of my hand.
It is really cool how easy you can make things yourself today!
sooo... how about a self-reloading, adjustable "tip-length", glue-gun?

Drip free Glue-Gun is AWESOME as hell...
Nice!
But it should have a normal on/off switch on the triger and a pot on top for you to set the speed!!!
You could have mounted the spring inside the lever to make it more compact!
I would honestly buy it for around 50 dollars :D cool idea nice job ben

You should add in a programable cruise control function were you can set the extrusion speed and the trigger just activates it. Just a thought.
cant wait for next week!!
Hey Ben, did you consider PWM'ing to keep at a specific temperature?
I don't care about the glue gun, just let me at that Theater of Magic Pin. Great to see it in the background :-)
so is that running a heater cartridge like on a 3d printer so 12 or 24 volt
Pretty cool. Its hard to keep a steady stream when your a pumping the trigger.
Is there STL for 3D printing to download?
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"
04:50 Srcew hecksaws, that is a full-on Heck power drill!
Where are the episodes on Revision3? I can't find this show in the app :(
David Sn Sorry, the Ben Heck Show is no longer on Revision3's network. You can keep watching our show on TH-cam or element14.com/tbhs - Thanks for watching!
Oh okay, thank you :)
I liked this build. Get it patented!
ben, don't get me wrong i love your videos, but you really need to work on your acting :P
zdf46, Ben is great, and you are a but a troll... suck it
Fuck You
troll spoted! Actually that kind of acting is what makes it funny and unique. Theres nothing to be changed about that in my opinion.
Also, what happended to Rusty?
Levi Carroll wtf is your problem man? I complimented ben? you need to learn what sarcasm means dipshit
been were can we get the parts and planes for you cnc router i could not find it on element14 web page
isn't a trigger a mechanical moving part?
btw, have fun learning why constantly feeding hot glue is a bad idea.
Trigger: Electronics: A pulse or circuit that initiates the action of another component
BTW, Thats what the trigger is for, to NOT constantly supply hot glue. Only when the "trigger" initiates.
I thought it was quite clear what going on but I guess I was wrong...Hmmm
greenmanmo wrong kind of trigger there, mate
not really look it up
greenmanmo I know what an electronic trigger is, but the OP was referring to the xbox trigger...
Or, you could just not enclose it and look down to see that you need another stick. =P
In ben's next show he makes conductive glue.
"Saving CENTS UPON CENTS of glue PER YEAR!"
A revision would be to mount the motor on the side or top even to allow for a more ergonomic handle
Really nice glue gun....
The hell, he didn't make it look like a star trek phaser.
Booo I say, booo.
Patiently waits for the "Great Glue Gun Part Three"
This is so cool
Allright landing party, set your phasers to glue.
And by the way, where was the tel. nr. at the bottom of the screen, I wanted to buy that!
guarantee he went back to his old glue gun a week later
Is anybody gonna say something about the actual glue gun? I think it was a cool concept
Get it on kickstarter
I agree, I would fund it!
Try it on kickstarter guys, nothing to loose!
What would an enthusiast grade motorized hot glue gun be worth to you?
How do u hold the wire when u solder because the wire gets so hot
I need that glue gun!!! Please make the price more affordable for us po folks. ♥
ben you are very smart!!!
I feel like it wouldn't have been too hard to 3D print a casing for it. You could make it look legit.
where can i find the code for this project?
Ben, you should make a hot glue gun 3d printer!
It would be awesome if you put it in a pistol-case!!!
I think you should make a glue stick magazine for that glue gun so instead of putting another in by hand, it automatically loads the next one for you.
Could you make a analog sound mixer
Smart dude!
I would totally buy one :) But I can't believe you didn't build a case to go around it‽
I'd still like to see an alarm clock for the deaf, where it converts sound to a receiver that vibrates and can be light enough to attach to a wrist or appendage.
Amazing video and would definitely buy this
Gorgeous
Ben, do you even etch your own PCBs?
yep he has a video on it
But how often? In his Eagle tutorial he said "[Then you download the gerber filesystem thing so you can order them online and not etch them]"
Very innovation. Much sticky. So glue. wow
I wish I could have one because not everybody has a 3d printer you should sell kits at least. You would make tons of money
***** look into teh 3doodler. 3d printing pen
you should make a kit for this, i would buy
ben thank you for this video because i used the glue gun wrong . and was thinking why doesnt it glue properly, the problem was i didnt let the glue gun to heat up to the right temperature
You could glue a bunch of sticks together to make one continuous stick or better yet how about a holder for the sticks so they would drop in automatically
Ben, stop putting your sister in your vids. She distracts me from everything else ;)
Loving the red dress.
Oh, liking this uber-glugun too :)
I assumed you were going to reuse the drill enclosure for the glue gun, or design and print one yourself. Cool project nonetheless.
Shouldn't the LED.indicate blue cold, red hot?
To really stop the glue from dripping the motor needs to withdraw the glue stick from the heating head more than you have done.
How can i buy this
So, for the LED.. Red (hot color) = still cold, and blue (cold color) = hot enough.. ?
So basically you are making a large filament diameter extruder. :-)
Blue doesn't connotate an "at temperature" colour, I'd expect green or red, red is hot. Blue cold.
What did you study in school, Ben?
you should actually mass produce them... id buy it and alot of other people would too
now it just need a mag and a power increase when it's extruding and not up to temp so that you can go faster longer
you needed to give it a hotter heating element so you could have an endless flow of glue.
So no case or exterior on this what so ever? Something 3D printed? no? Just leave it ugly?... well fuck.
aiklarung I know, right! :O I was almost hoping for a 50's raygun type of finned pistol look or something. :D "It's the future"...
you should get that patented
How about making some mechanism to automatically reload glue stick?
Ben you should make an xbox 360 controller that you could use on iPad mini
Cool!
A dial for heat, and a trigger for extrusion would be better
Can't we use a thermometer instead of a thermister
PLEASE do an episode on modding an xbox 360 remote to shoot rapid fire
I want this thing but I cant build it, take my money!
Agree with ZeroG84
you can use this as a 3d printing pen.
I want one!
seasame street no has competition
No Ben you have not finished the project yet, I was really hopping you would have completed it by enclosing it in a case, come on that's an 2/3 finished project
whats next, conductive hot glue
honestly the good glue guns usually don't drip i have a 1980s glue gun that doesn't drip
You should patent and sell it
My name is Ben hopkins
4:53 - that's what she said
Shut up and take my money
your heat source far to weak too so it makes zero sense to have a motor drive the stick if you not have enought heat to melt the stick at same pace as the motor go
