Mr. Holland has paid almost every kind of due imaginable for a Modern Jazz Musician The king of outside as well as a beautiful inside player accompanist . Always displaying impeccable intonation and that beautiful dark tone untouchable technique and intellegence man what else is there... oh wait ! he is now a supremely compelling conception vessel bringing together unexpected provocative combinations of musicians with his ever brilliant compositions damn what can one say .
One of the great Bass solo leads, tasty, not typical. Holland is so solid. I believe some of his best work was with Herbie Hancock on Shadow Dance. Robin Eubanks what an awesome job on his trombone lead.
so good when steve catches the first hit at the end of nate's solo and he hollers, having not expecting him to come in there at all. That's the good stuff right there. 12:35 ish
I saw an interview with John McLaughlin about the forming of the Mahavishu Orchestra. He said the first group member he wanted was for drums to push the group. He picked Billy Cobham and it was great. I think Nate Smith is in the same category. He's awesome. IMO, everyone is great but Nate brings it all together. One of the best I've ever heard.
Saw Dave Holland with Nate Smith in Detroit some years back. I was there, watching and listening to a live concert, and I still couldn't figure out what Nate Smith was doing ! Unbelievable! What a talent!
Here is a test only of technique and art, of his extensive discography, every time I hear Dave Holland's halo I know that I am in front of the best Live bassist
I knew his engineer who sadly passed
A great guy
Mr. Dave Holland is let's not forget a GENTLEMAN and an humble person as well!!

Mr. Holland is a great bass player and he is representing the bass playing tradition for quite a while!

They are really on fire. The piece itself is a real good one, but they get it in a incredible way!
