The entire movie has this "color palette" which is mostly earthy, somber and the balance is the gold accent And then there's the Awkwafina dragon looking like some My Little Pony kind of character with Frozen color palette........
I thought they might have done that on purpose. If she is some kind of magical/mythical creature she should stick out from the rest of them. Meanwhile everyone else is of Earth and are what I assume to be less magical beings so they have a more earthy palette. Though I wish they made her more dragon shaped then the mlp look she currently has. I wouldn’t have minded her looking like a dragon from httyd or something.

Ok I was also expecting the dragon to be more like "normal" dragons. I would love her to be big, scary, inteligent and deadly. But after some time... I feel like there can be a movie with this "different" dragon for once. I definitely cried at the end! Even my partner (who NEVER cries at movies) even teared up a little! It was just a really beautiful feel good movie, we loved it & definitely weren’t bored.
Disney is lost. They have no idea who to cater to anymore. Zootopia and frozen had the exact same budget but since frozen ended up being more marketable they made a second one. Not that frozen was better it just had a clear target audience. It wasn't all over the place like all the latest Disney movies
Considering they're trying to remake all of their classics to profit off of our nostalgia, I would say that they have to earn our trust back. Besides, she literally gets pickpocketed in the beginning.

At my first time watching this movie, I was, surprised with how it looks, how it made, and how it was AMAZING. Theres no singing in it. Just a beautiful soundtrack. Theres some jokes, a little bit sad and sometimes, they're fighting and chasing, stealing and more fun things. The best movie I've ever watched.

It's still so cool to see all the small details of my own country's culture in a mainstream movie. The long ships in the opening scene, the bottle while trying to do a religious ritual, the gold-lined throne there... and just, their faces... I'm happy

I hesitated to watch this movie for soooo long because my expectations for Disney are low. I'm over all of the musicals. But man my husband and I decided to put it on after another father recommended it to us. So we watched it with our daughter and man.... It blew my expectations out of the water. Thank you soooo much for not making it a musical. I went and looked up the work they put into this and the director (his debut film) purposely didn't make it a musical because he wanted a contemporary film. The filmmakers that made it based the culture of the movie off of multiple cultures from Southeast Asia. They visited the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Vietnam. I have to say it was very respectable. If you, like me, are sick of Disney musicals, then you'll find this one a breath of fresh air.

My problem with this kind of movie is that it will not be violent enough since it's a Disney movie, I'd prefer fantasy movies with fighting to be at least PG 13
As part of the Southeast asian peeps, I can really relate to the movie. The way that the culture from southeast asian countries in the movie shows how diverse we are but we can still set aside our differences and BE AS ONE. The movie itself is soooooooo satisfying. The ending made me cry. And it makes me proud to be part of Southeast Asia and FINALLY!! WE HAVE OUR OWN PRINCESS!! RAYA!!

Weird cuz there's already an animal sidekick in this movie, the giant armadillo-pillbug-bear thing. And the baby herself has her own animal sidekicks in the form of monkeys.

It's because this movie is about Southeast Asia and Southeast Asian culture aka Austronesia. Moana was about Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia combined. Our ancestors (the Austronesians) are also the ancestors of the other three combined. Our ancestors are the same. So expect similarities of appearance and culture (except the Chinese culture like the Chinatown at the beginning even though we were not supposed to be a descendant from the Chinese, due to migration and countless conquerings of kingdoms, we have a part of their culture in us).

I'm only saying because of migration and kingdom conquerings, China has been able to access some parts of Southeast Asia and they even call some parts as their own like Hongkong, and etc. Of course, there are parts of Southeast Asia that have never been touched by China. For example in the Philippines, The North and Central islands (Luzon and Visayas respectively) are highly Catholics but many Chinese migrants are spreading their culture here. BUT the South island (Mindanao) is highly Muslim and the Chinese people never had the chance to spread their culture there. But in reality, we didn't descend from the Chinese. We descended from some of the aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. We are Austronesians and our ancestors are the Proto-Austronesians.
I watched it, and trust me, it is AMAZING!! I couldn't stop watching it over and over, this has got to be one of the most unique Movies' Raya is one of the Disney Princesses' that doesn't need a prince I really like how there isn't any romance or any songs, it has great action scenes, and the animation is realistic. It's a mix of Moana and Frozen. I'm not a big fan of Disney movies, but this made me LOVE Disney! I like how the little baby (Noi) has three monkeys as sidekicks, and Sisu is got to be the funny one amongst them all, she makes me laugh, and some of her scenes are HILARIOUS! All of these characters are great, and well made. This movie is so good, and so well made, I can't even wonder how long this must've took! I rate it a ♾/10 ✨💞 Also, If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend you do!!

Well they only released two movies in that time Ralph 2 and frozen 2. Still, a far cry from when Walt was alive and basically promised to never make a sequel.
You know that animated movies take longer to make than live action movies, right? They were working on this while their sequels were getting released. And even then, it was only two movies.

It's interesting that you say that because a whole new team worked the live action Mulan whereas the studio that is making Raya is made by the same (albeit an evolved version of the same) studio. Walt Disney Animation Studios has gone through many changes in management, storytellers, and animators over the years but ultimately it's a cultivation of people being told how to create a story by the same people going back through Disney history. Walt taught the 9 old men who taught up through much of the renaissance who taught up through today. It's a legacy preserving thing that ensures films which come from the Animation studio itself are able to stand cohesively with its predecessors. So it seems to me that the charm never really left. The live action Mulan just could have taken to pulling from Disney's animation department

Watched it yesterday. One of the best Animation Movies I have ever seen. Not just because its so well and detailed animated (Textures are so realistic! ...and fluffy). Also the locations are so great designed! You could make wallpapers out of every single Cinematic Shot! Story was fun and felt like a journey with stops you really want to visit on the side of nice and lovely characters. Totally worth watching it! =) They really should think about making a Videogame out of it or an adventure ride in Disneyworld.

That means things can still feel out of place if they pull the viewer out of the fantasy world and into reality. Fourth-wall-breaking jokes aren't necessarily bad, but they _do_ break immersion. But I mean, hey, it's _possible_ that there are group assignments in this fantasy world. It just doesn't seem super coherent that a dragon went to a structured school like that.

I watched this the other night and I agree with the top comments. I wasn’t supposed to watch it but thank goodness I did. One of the best Disney movies I’ve seen in a while. There are some parts that might bore you but please stick to the movie. It’s still a 10/10. Plus ending made me cry. I’m weak for any father-daughter type of story >.

I love how Raya is soooooo badass - no cringe romance, no kiss scenes, just pure adventure to bring back peace and unity. Plus I'm obsessed with Raya's beauty.
It looks really cool and like it has a lot of potential, but after seeing the og concept art, the dragon's design is really disappointing. You can tell it was made to sell toys. As a Filipino myself, I feel pleased to see disney characters who look like us finally. Although culturally I cannot connect too much with the movie since SE Asia is too much diverse but they kinda lump it into one, but still it feels connecting to see characters and people who look like us in their animation.
I think the fil cultures represented in the movie was the green mango with bagoong, patis (fish sauce), house on waters (talon) and some of our items too are inspired by dragons since we heavily inspired by Chinese + the arnis
50% definitely took inspiration from Avatar the last airbender I’m south East Asian I can say this with a clear heart just because it’s based off of south east Asia much of it looks very much from avatar, for example, what tale or culture from Southeast Asia has double type animals like slater hamsters? At my first time watching this movie, I was, surprised with how it looks, how it made, and how it was AMAZING. Theres no singing in it. Just a beautiful soundtrack. I hesitated to watch this movie for soooo long because my expectations for Disney are low. I'm over all of the musicals. But man my husband and I decided to put it on after another father recommended it to us. So we watched it with our daughter and man.... It blew my expectations out of the water. Thank you soooo much for not making it a musical. I went and looked up the work they put into this and the director (his debut film) purposely didn't make it a musical because he wanted a contemporary film. The filmmakers that made it based the culture of the movie off of multiple cultures from Southeast Asia. They visited the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Vietnam. I have to say it was very respectable. If you, like me, are sick of Disney musicals, then you'll find this one a breath of fresh air.

As part of the Southeast asian peeps, I can really relate to the movie. The way that the culture from southeast asian countries in the movie shows how diverse we are but we can still set aside our differences and BE AS ONE. The movie itself is soooooooo satisfying. The ending made me cry. And it makes me proud to be part of Southeast Asia and FINALLY!! WE HAVE OUR OWN PRINCESS!! RAYA!!

It's because this movie is about Southeast Asia and Southeast Asian culture aka Austronesia. Moana was about Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia combined. Our ancestors (the Austronesians) are also the ancestors of the other three combined. Our ancestors are the same. So expect similarities of appearance and culture (except the Chinese culture like the Chinatown at the beginning even though we were not supposed to be a descendant from the Chinese, due to migration and countless conquerings of kingdoms, we have a part of their culture in us).

For example in the Philippines, The North and Central islands (Luzon and Visayas respectively) are highly Catholics but many Chinese migrants are spreading their culture here. BUT the South island (Mindanao) is highly Muslim and the Chinese people never had the chance to spread their culture there.
But in reality, we didn't descend from the Chinese. We descended from some of the aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. We are Austronesians and our ancestors are the Proto-Austronesians.

I watched it, and trust me, it is AMAZING!! I couldn't stop watching it over and over, this has got to be one of the most unique Movies' Raya is one of the Disney Princesses' that doesn't need a prince I really like how there isn't any romance or any songs, it has great action scenes, and the animation is realistic. It's a mix of Moana and Frozen. I'm not a big fan of Disney movies, but this made me LOVE Disney! I like how the little baby (Noi) has three monkeys as sidekicks, and Sisu is got to be the funny one amongst them all, she makes me laugh, and some of her scenes are HILARIOUS! All of these characters are great, and well made. This movie is so good, and so well made, I can't even wonder how long this must've took!

The problem that this movie looks like it’ll have is the fact that it seems really mature in the trailers, but the movie is just going to be a bunch of comic relief characters. It's interesting that you say that because a whole new team worked the live action Mulan whereas the studio that is making Raya is made by the same (albeit an evolved version of the same) studio. Walt Disney Animation Studios has gone through many changes in management, storytellers, and animators over the years but ultimately it's a cultivation of people being told how to create a story by the same people going back through Disney history. Walt taught the 9 old men who taught up through much of the renaissance who taught up through today. It's a legacy preserving thing that ensures films which come from the Animation studio itself are able to stand cohesively with its predecessors. So it seems to me that the charm never really left. The live action Mulan just could have taken to pulling from Disney's animation department

I'm okay being cynical about Disney, I've watched the whole journey from direct to VHS to now.
Watched it yesterday. One of the best Animation Movies I have ever seen. Not just because its so well and detailed animated (Textures are so realistic! ...and fluffy). Also the locations are so great designed! You could make wallpapers out of every single Cinematic Shot! Story was fun and felt like a journey with stops you really want to visit on the side of nice and lovely characters. Totally worth watching it! =)
They really should think about making a Videogame out of it or an adventure ride in Disneyworld.
People complain about Disney characters all having overly similar faces, so when they have a chance to make a visually unique looking creature like a dragon? Give it an overly similar face.

Its so crazy how realistic every details and locations in this movie that only the characters look like animations, every villages looks amazing (Fang's castle, Heart's ring-like mountain, Spine's woods and the colorful market place of Talon). Best Disney movie I've seen in a while
I feel like people need to stop judging Disney movies based on trailers alone. The movie itself looked like garbage and had a boring and mundane plot with sub-par animation.

@@ZER-vr7tp fantasy doesn't mean "anything goes". Fantasy means it's a different world, with a different internal consistency than our world. That means things can still feel out of place if they pull the viewer out of the fantasy world and into reality. Fourth-wall-breaking jokes aren't necessarily bad, but they _do_ break immersion. But I mean, hey, it's _possible_ that there are group assignments in this fantasy world. It just doesn't seem super coherent that a dragon went to a structured school like that.

I watched this the other night and I agree with the top comments. I wasn’t supposed to watch it but thank goodness I did. One of the best Disney movies I’ve seen in a while. There are some parts that might bore you but please stick to the movie. It’s still a 10/10. Plus ending made me cry. I’m weak for any father-daughter type of story >.

It looks really cool and like it has a lot of potential, but after seeing the og concept art, the dragon's design is really disappointing. You can tell it was made to sell toys. But I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else. Otherwise it looks pretty cool, and I think it has potential.

As a Filipino myself, I feel pleased to see disney characters who look like us finally. Although culturally I cannot connect too much with the movie since SE Asia is too much diverse but they kinda lump it into one, but still it feels connecting to see characters and people who look like us in their animation.
I think the fil cultures represented in the movie was the green mango with bagoong, patis (fish sauce), house on waters (talon) and some of our items too are inspired by dragons since we heavily inspired by Chinese + the arnis
