@@tavern2468 I'm a man of science, but these thoughts are entertaining nevertheless. Personally, I do think everything can be explained with Chemistry/Physics, but you'll catch me exercising my philosophical curiosity from time to time.
Abusive Father i’ll admit when I am curious and interested in science even though I don’t always understand the terms because it’s all kind of difficult for me to get the language so to speak but I love to learn about almost anything but there are definitely some things in life that can’t be explained solely by science or I consider science sterile lab coat magic.
It’s interesting that they say in the beginning of this preview that the group before is where your personality is formed but it’s interesting that they also say that you have the will to choose to be here on earth because even biblically that is said as well

Despite what I believe, however, I simply cannot know for sure whether or not our lives are preordained. These ideas, I think, can be categorized as some of the most abstract theories man has ever conceived.

I secretly cried watching this film. Honestly one of the most inspiring movies I ever saw. Probably one of my favourite Pixar animations ever.

Don’t be afraid of death, for it is part of life. The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel. I believe that people fear death when they think they haven’t lived good enough and need more time to change that. My advise, go out and do things worth remembering. The best memories come from the worst choices. One of my greatest anecdotes is when in my 20s, myself and 3 friends while drunk at 3am on a Friday night bought plane tickets and travelled to Rio de Janeiro (Im from Argentina btw so its a 3 hour flight) because we thought a weekend in Rio was a good idea. Needless to say the next day I felt awful, pissed off at myself and with my parents giving me hell through the phone because I used their credit card extension. Now every time I recall it I smile, and is a great bar anecdote as “craziest thing you’ve ever done” while talking with girls.
When you are actually faced with death you realise spending time on that fear is a waste and you should just try to enjoy every moment you have

What is coming is much better and that’s why we should focus our energy in believing in God, thanking him abundantly for the blessings he has given us and make meaning out of our life by doing as much good actions as we can.

It's composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, two emotional geniuses of music. So whatever's filling your ears during this film is going to be fantastic regardless.

To see the negative thoughts illustrated on screen had such a profound impact on me. As someone who is constantly anxious about the feelings of others and depressed about my own being, seeing those negative voices being directed towards someone else so openly really surprised me. I’ve become so detached from myself that the scene was like a slap in the face as to what it must look like for my own mind to drive such negativity towards myself everyday. I never cry to movies, but this scene made me cry.

I watch this movie while I was treated in hospital for Covid 19 back in June 2021. I was in really bad condition. The movie is the only movie I save on my phone memory, we don't have data connection in the hospital. I was ready to die at that time. This movie prepared me for that. I am glad, I am still living until today. Thanks Pixar for making this movie. It's really a important & meaningful movie for me. 🙏

Finally, a trailer that actually got me interested in this movie. The previous ones just weren't selling anything to me besides some vague concept of a musician dying and going to the afterlife. Now I have an idea of what to expect.

Seriously though this looks the same way inside out is, more serious and powerful than typical disney movies.
well I mean its from the same director who made Inside Out and Coco.
That's also why it looks visually similar to Inside out... but this one has more of a "Humanity feel"

After watching this movie three times, I can safely say it's one of those gems. Really puts things into perspective. Easily one of my favourite animations. Can't recommend it enough!
I highly recommend this movie for anyone at any age, this movie hits close to everyone because we all at one point in our lives think about what our meaning in life is and this film presents it so beautifully
There’s 4 writers/directors in Pixar that asure you an amazing ride: Andrew Stanton, Brad Bird, Lee Unkrich and Pete Docter. The last one is the person behind “Up”, “Monsters, Inc.”, “Inside Out” and now “Soul”.
Pete Docter is also the new Chief Creative Officer of Pixar. He replaced John Lasseter.
Despite what he did, I would still count John L as a great animation director from Pixar. He did help create some of our favourite Pixar movies from our childhoods. His talent shouldn't be outshined by his terrible behaviour.
I was in the darkest time of my existence when I found this movie. Depression is just like a black blanket surrounding you: you can no longer see the point in anything. The movie helped me understand that awakening to life is an individual's journey. You can find help and messages along the way but in the end, it's you that have to focus on the Light within. Light and Darkness are both necessary to allow this plane of existence to be. Do not judge either of them but understand that both stem from the same Source and you are an Expression of Source just like everything and everybody else. Enjoy the ride and watch this movie! 😘😁😉💖👍
I like how this trailer avoids spoiling a huge twist that happens half-way thru the film. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and John Batiste made one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. The music that plays in The Great Before and The Great Beyond was so beauitful. The Jazz and the electronic music was a great combination.

Upon seeing this trailer again, I'm actually really excited about the whole plot with this guy dying and becoming a soul. At first I was disappointed that the film seemed to drop the great concept it had in the beginning just to make him a blue blob, but I think that by doing so, they've really introduced a neat topic in this movie. These two characters seem like they could have some incredibly interesting dialogue about existentialism, and if it's really worth it to live and create. I can't wait to see what this movie is able to come up with, it seems like it's got many opportunities to raise some really deep points.
I hear your point and your right, this movie can become something more creative and have deeper meaning than just blue blobs interacting. I just can't stop to think about the fact that Pixar had the perfect chance to be a mature and realistic movie without turning this into a new Inside Out with most of the movie being just unrealistic pointless scenes for comedic affect. But I'll give this movie a chance and hopefully it proves me wrong.

Man, i cried almost every scene. Every day when the pandemic and quarantine start , i got nothing to do. Im 20, Had no job no motivation to do anything, im just depressed abt everything and anxiety over the things that wouldn’t happen yet. Im always feel lost, thinking im not worth living, scared abt my future. I know im still young but thats what scares me more, i always overthink when im wanting to do something. But this movie is just opening my eyes, i dont need to figure everything yet, just do what i love and keep living to the fullest is just enough. Purpose in live is just living. This movie is probably the most touching movie on life and it's purpose that I have ever watched! Thank you for creating and sharing this masterpiece with us!
I immediately thought of "Sol", the music solfege, especially since the main character loves music. Soul for a Sol, y'know.
I'm guessing it's also his favourite music genre.

Ahh very observant! What's also interesting is the musical relationship of "Sol" in music theory. The "Sol" in solfege is also known as the 5th degree of a diatonic scale which functions as what is called the Dominant. The Dominant chord of a diatonic scale is percieved in western culture to have a very unresolved texture in sound. This texture of unresolve is what makes the Dominant Chord have a natural calling for resolution, and this resolution is found in the 1st degree chord of the diatonic scale, also known as the tonic (in music slang this is called the "home" chord as it is the foundational chord in a piece of music or at least in a musical phrase). A 5 chord resolving to a 1 chord is the most common form of resolve in many forms of music around the world. So what makes this so cool is that this movie is about a Soul trying to find resolution back on Earth, just like a dominant chord trying to find resolve in the tonic chord. The "Sol" of solfege resolving to the "Do" of solfege. And this is just the symbolism in the title :) I can't wait to see this film...

Defending Your Life (1991), It's a Wonderful Life (1946), and A Christmas Carol (1908) A Matter of Life and Death (1946) were all influences on the making of the film.
22 gets her name because she is the 22nd soul to have ever existed. To give a suggestion how long this has been, the soul that was named before her was in the hundred billions.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who are best-known for Industrial Metal and soundtracks to edgy movies and video games, co-composed the ethereal music heard in The Great Beyond and The Great Before.

Just like his character, Jamie Foxx is a talented musician in real life.
The character's name "22" is a reference to the paradox Catch-22. In this case, the only way to find out that life is worth living, is by living life.
This is the first Pixar film to have the title card appear at the end of the film.
