Great video. I've been doing the wood spirals for a couple of years but have not used my barrel I got for my birthday, but you guys convinced me.
Barrels arent necessarily needed and add a lot to the overall expense. I added a spiral to a botttle of Benchmark Full Proof wnd a month later its on par with the 3 bottles of Stagg I have.... maybe even better. So do it buy some shelfers and toss in w spiral and see where it goes. Way better than paying crazy mark ups from stores or now the distilleries.
I’ve done this and it does make it better. I need bigger barrels though I’d like to get 30 gallon barrels to really make something special. Great video fellas! Enjoy!!🥃🥃🥃
The bigger the barrel I think the better they end up coming out. 🥃
That's one way to make blantons tolerable.
😆
How long are you keeping the benchmark in the barrel for??
This one is going to be 9-10 months. We are waiting until we get the flavor we are looking for and think we could get more out of it. The next one is aging for a year.
@@minerstuff1028 good stuff keep it up love watching yalls videos.
How long was it in the barrel for?
The benchmark is 9 months already and we are probably going to let it go another month before bottling it.
Love it guys, some great experiments that you're nailing
Can confirm the Eagle Rare honey finished is delicious! More of a dessert pour now with a bit of complexity or a nice lower proof old fashioned without added sugar
I have my own mini barrel going (I think from redhead as well), but every time I age something in it, I just get a new note of super heavy charred oak without much else added depth wise. Has that not been your experience? How long would you recommend keeping the weller in the mini barrel?
The smaller barrels I go a couple weeks to a month. The larger barrels don't do that and get a lot better flavor but also take longer.
I have a smaller barrel. How long should I leave it in for?
I do the small ones around a couple weeks to a month depending on what I'm doing in it. The longest I've gone has been 2 months but it was getting a little over oaked.
Awesome experiment gentlemen! 🥃🥃
Great video, thanks for the information going to order a barrel or two and try it!!
Love doing barrel staves but want to get some small barrels too. A maple barrel and a honey barrel interest me.
Awesome stuff fellas!
Cool video. How do you measure the proof?

Can you buy #4 char barrels?
You can through some of the companies. 🥃
