I had a whole binge the other day of a bunch of these specials. The Great Santa Claus Switch, The Christmas Toy, Letters to Santa, etc. There’s so many great ones that feel like they fly below the radar, so it’s really cool to see other people talk about them.
Ok, I'm only 10 minutes in, but that made me smile when you showed the John Denver tape. My dad used to play it on Christmas road trips to my grandparents' house in the early 80's. As I mentioned on Emma's channel that was my first exposure to When the River Meets the Sea. Before home video we had soundtracks. 😎
Great podcast as usual! Listening to end how you guys wanted to make this as a way to get younger generations into the Muppets is really inspiring. Being a fan since I was a kid in the 90s, I’m glad we have people like you two to keep the spirit of Jim alive! As for Christmas Specials, my heart will always go to Muppet Family Christmas for being the ultimate crossover. Though Carol has been one I’ve been liking a bit more over the years too and also, love Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. If nothing else I get to see the time honored Christmas tradition with that Big Bird special, and that’s watching Oscar the Grouch fly away(that shit cracked me up when I was little)
Well here's an idea, we as a fandom pick a date and everyone watches 1 specific episode of the show on Disney+, everyone on the exact same one and see if we can do enough to send a message. Make a thing of it.
it's so wild to me that ive been listening to "A Christmas Together" without knowing it?? my mama hated several Christmas music albums that we owned bc of my dad, and i LOVED all of those "my mama eyerolls and tolerates it with grumbles bc she knows the fun is that she Hates™️ it even though she doesnt hate-Hate it"-albums. and in my household, John Denver & The Muppets was one of the albums she "couldnt stand". and i just never processed that the album was ACTUALLY "A Christmas Together" (edit: as in the text just blended in too much to the album for me. i literally never processed that it had this as its ACTUAL title lol), much less that it had a special??? even though it was my favorite of the "mama HATES these"-albums that ive made a pseudo-tradition to listen to every year so. for context. im like 23+ years old. and i just. never knew the Real Name of my favorite Christmas "tradition" album or that it was from a special. and this is especially wild bc my "thing" my loved ones remark on me the most for is that i research everything. i get curious and find replicas of stuff or explanations, and i do it in half the time or less than the people i know irl, ill get asked to look up something/look for something so often that it would make total sense to be my job will how much ive polished that skill (alas, doesnt seem to pay well). and yet, i never looked this CD's backstory up, never found out it was from a special. that is so wild. i dont think i will ever get over this, i think im going to be giggly about it until the day i die, that is so absurd to me specifically, thank you so much for informing me of this lmao . . . (for anybody curious about what these other CDs must have been: the other albums My Mom Hates (But Tolerates Because She Realizes It Is Funny) were the Elf movie album, the Jingle All The Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger movie album, How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey album, all because she hated those movies. she admits their soundtracks are good though, but she groans so loudly at the reminder that they exist that she doesn't like the CDs. i asked her "did you know John Denver and The Muppets was also a movie? is that why you hated it??" and she was like "no, i had no idea. i just think they're obnoxious. both John Denver and also the Muppets" which. wild that a Muppet-disliker had an adult-child who grew up to be a Muppet fan. something something teenage rebellion never dies lmao)
Okay this comment wins. That’s so wild that you had no idea either! Especially after reading your described traits haha. I love that you still play those albums your mom hates! 😂 & you’re not the first I’ve heard have Muppet hating parents then turning super fan! Ironic
Last year my girlfriend and I invited some friends over to get really high and watch A Muppets Christmas Carol. We all lost our mind when one of us said that Tiny Tim looked like a snake.
Hey, do you guys have your border image as a background anywhere? I spotted it out of the corner of my eye while I was working on other stuff and thought it would look great as a background.
wishing happy holidays to all the muppet fans
