possible to do Dynamic paint (like in Blender) from intersections of objects to create a texture mask for render?

Is there any way to apply a falloff during operations to a selection?
Like in Modo you can select some faces, enable a falloff shape e.g. linear, turn on translate and move.
But in Maya the closest thing I found is Soft Selection which has the obvious shortcomings of: 1- inaccurate selection with 100% applied to selection and unintended overflow. 2- only falloff shape available is Gaussian sphere.

Cool feature request. I'll mention it to the modelling team.

Ian Waters That would be awesome.

i could use this method with all other modifier like extrude, but i can't use it with nodes which support the edges like (PolyBevel) .. why Mash_falloff node doesn't support Edge as compnent ?? would you please consider this? so at least it can be used as ( group ) node in Houdini where you can use it as gizmo for selection which this feature not exsit in Maya

      ProSets supports this: www.mainframe.co.uk/products/

really cool tks! Is there a way to use the generated vertex map as a nCloth Property Map?

    • @ianwaters6035

+Mário Domingos I'll be honest, I've no idea :) Worth investigating though to see if nCloth accepts component lists...

I've tried but I'm not smart enough... if you have time and interest try it and let me know. Would be great if that was possible.

That would be an interesting. There probably is a way !

How do you bake the results; and can you smooth the hole created in the geometry ?

+The Christopher Hey, create a smooth hole by increasing the subdivisions on the mesh, and to bake the results simply export the mesh to Alembic :)

It seems to work only with the delete component node. I tried with polyExtrudeFace node but it doesn't work. Can you help please?

Change the attribute type to 'face' on the Falloff node. I think it defaults to Vertex.

Hi Ian, thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately the falloff only effects the location of the extrusion, not the thickness. Is there a way to fix this?

Can any MASH node be used outside of a MASH network?

    • @ianwaters6035
      @ianwaters6035  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Just Falloff in 2016 Ext 2. The PythonNode or Breakout Utility can also be used to redirect MASH info to the rest of Maya. Keep an eye on Siggraph :)
