    Maybe this is one of the reasons City beat Real Madrid so compressively. It's the first time Real have seen the double pivot De Zerbi style and, even though they are individually amazingly good players, and can beat anybody with the old style of play, it's the system that beat them, not the players

    • @mamaadura9831

      Actually in Ajax this present man u coach was using double pivot(De jong and schone)
      So like 4-2-1-3 then you use an anchor man like rodri, Casemiro, Busquet and then one orchestrator like Thiago or macalister, de jong or you can also go with a box to box midfielder like kante.
      And it works so well.
      So one dmf would help the defenders while the other one helps in attack and defence. They beat Madrid that season too
      So that's why you saw Stones staying back that day while rodri was joining the attack and also joining the defense. It's like splitting your team 2-1-7 cause your lb and rb will also join the attack. So you would have 2cbs and a dmf.

    Video is wrong about pundits. When Souness said de Zerbi was a risk because he doesn't know our game, he meant he had no experience working in the Premier League. This is nothing to do with nationality, in fact an English manager has never won the Premier League.

    • @EnglandFootballReview2022
      @EnglandFootballReview2022  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      You might be right. However, when Gerrard got the Villa-job, Souness wasn’t at all critical - even if Gerrard didn't have the experience either from managing in the Premier League.
      And when Gerrard got sacked at Villa, Souness wished Villa had given him some time. Souness then argued that Gerrard could follow the Claudio Ranieri example (with a lot of clubs) and dust himself off and go again, even though his comments a week earlier about Roberto De Zerbi where he questioned the amount of jobs on his CV.

    • @zzzzoijzzzzz
      @zzzzoijzzzzz 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Strange example. Gerrard has incredible experience in the English game, particularly as a player, he also did some other jobs at Liverpool. I don't think de Zerbi had experience in the UK. If Gerrard were to become manager of say Milan pundits might say it's a risk because Gerrard doesn't understand the Italian game or the Italian language. I doubt Souness is being xenophobic in his punditry.

      @leoleonhardsen3628 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@zzzzoijzzzzz as Gerrard and Lampard have shown us, playing and managing in PL is so different that the player experience has nothing to say. There has been a culture for British pundits, including Souness, to give British manager MUCH more slack than foreigners. Ask Marco Silva and Claudio Ranieri. Even though none of the tactical innovations in the PL has come from English managers, and Sir Alex and Sir Kenny is the only successful from Brittain. Steve McClaren described this phenomen "The Island Mentality", and it's spot on!

    • @zzzzoijzzzzz
      @zzzzoijzzzzz 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you're probably right. When I first watched this video I thought it was harsh on Souness. I think it's a fair argument that there is risk in appointing a manager with no Prem experience, even though it turns out de Zerbi did very well.

      The Italian has previously said the Argentinian was a big influence on him when cultivating his own coaching style, he reportedly wanted to end a post-match interview with Sky Italia when he was at Sassuolo as he wanted to 'watch Bielsa’s Leeds on TV', and in 2017, De Zerbi was invited to spend a week studying his methods when the ex-Atletico Bilbao boss was at French side Lille.

      You're right in your first statement :) However:
      Managers inspire and steal ideas from each other and will continue to do that. Has De Zerbi learned more and been more inspired by Guardiola, rather than vice versa? Yes!
      Has Guardiola and Arteta been inspired by the way De Zerbi uses 2 pivots? Also yes!

    • @dacutler
      @dacutler ปีที่แล้ว +16

      So, how did a small unfunded team like Brighton beat Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool? Was it because they have man to man better players (which obviously isn't true) or was it the system?

    • @scottmescudi9630
      @scottmescudi9630 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@dacutler Its the system yes. But baiting the press and using double pivots is a concept both Arteta and Pep have been using before. Arteta even uses Zinchenko-Partey as the pivot this season. The real bit of innovation and where De Zerbi deserves a lot of credit is using a 2-4-4/2-4-2-2 shape in build up rather than a 2-3-5/3-2-5. It completely bamboozles traditional pressing patterns set up to press 5 players rather than 6. The numerical advantage means they can recycle the ball constantly in build up till the right moment appears. It will be interesting to see how managers try to counter it next season.

    • @dacutler
      @dacutler ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@scottmescudi9630 Pep was interesting when he was praising De Zerbi recently. It wasn't only the way the ball was moved forwards to create an attack. It was the TMINING involved in doing so. In that way, according to Pep, Brighton are the best in the world. Now, that seems to me to be a biut excessive, but I kinda think he is right. It's the timing, not just the action that creates space and overload.
