That is so true about the mourning doves! I always have more than one nest every year. I leave them alone and love to watch them raise their babies!!! This year I was devastated when I came home and saw the dead baby lying on my driveway! It had a wound to the upper chest. We have a neighborhood cat that the owner will not spay or neuter and the over flow of cats I am sure did this to the baby! It was so horrific as I watched both mother and father mourning doves cry for days and frantically search for their missing baby! I had buried that baby bird of course. It was gut wrenching and I cried with them.
