- In this video we look back shortley on the cheap China copy of the BRM 150 versus the Italian Marolin Trimmy Evo Hydraulic hedge trimmer, we look at the trimmy evo, the needed adaptations and preparations and finally we do a cutting test
Superb finish for the British tractor manufacturer David Brown, Several agricultural contractors used the 990 from the area I was born in and brought up in Norfolk from the 1960’s, One of the weakest areas of the David Brown was the front axle pivot and would snap from continuous hard use from agricultural contractors, Would be great to either make a video of the pre force ford 5000 or the force 5000 which would take any abuse from operators in different conditions, Once again a pleasure to watch your complete rebuild of a classic tractor,

In my younger year's on the first farm I worked on the scraper tractor was a red 990 of 1962 with a david brown loader on it heavy steering keep the thumbs out of the way lol great video love the rotary cutters I used to drive a single rotor one at 60 inches in diameter a turner rotoslasher nice job :))
The restoration of the David Brown tractor took me back to my childhood days on the farm in Scotland where we had exactly the same one plus an old Major n not forgetting the wee workhorse Massey Ferguson, great videos thankyou

Great way to trim the estate...could you also do the lawn with it? LOL
Minor concern is the control placement, up against a hedge for top trim it it possible to snag a control on some branch. Maybe mount on opposite fender? Other than that, a shiny tractor and implement are always nice to see, and knowing you it will be washed after the season for storage.

Good work Steve as usual. You may want to consider modifying your pump bracket so that you have a complete hole for the bolt to go through. That bracket could slip down with the vibrations and put downward pressure on the PTO over time. Using 10cm stock for the bracket may do the trick.
Yes, that is an option, although most people just use a chain to hold the pump... The bracket can't rotate in between the bars, so it very solid in place .. Thanks for the comments
When you made the hydraulic pump bracket, why didn't you make the top wider so it
will completely surround the mounting holes on the tractor side and hold the pump
more securely?

There were two issues, the pomp needs to go all the way down on the PTO shaft, so if I used a full hole on the sides I could not push the pump all the way down. I could have made another shaped bracket. yet mist people just use a chain to hold it so that it does not rotate...

If you want more Support on your pump....use 2 holes on each side...cut those tabs off and put a bigger plate or angle to get 2 holes...
It will hold your pump better...lift the pump up to a position that is not pushing down ..and tack your sides on .... If you split 3 holes you can put a gusset in the centre hole location for even more strength ( also widening your bolts too will be stronger ) ...

I made a 3 circular blade cutter for the boom on my excavator. Same problem with the narrow track base, I can't travel and cut, I have to slew the machine to cut. Better than doing it by hand I spose.

When my Oil tank went on my crane Truck ( rusted ) ..i bought a Hyd Tank that had one of those Level/Temp Guages on it ...they are nice....they sell them to add to tanks too....easy to upgrade a older tank...

That is a good quality machine. I have always liked Italian engineering and manufacture. To overcome the uneveness, mark evenly spaced low spots along the full length of the hedge and then cut low in those spots - there won't be many, looking at the clip maybe 3. Then there will be a beautifull wavy pattern and nobody will know how or why.

Interesting content! Perhaps you can influence the low frequency vibration of the hole system by experiment with the tire pressure. I am afraid the bigger waves in the hedge do not only come from the ground, the tractor is driving at. The hole vibrating system enlarges the amplitude.

That looks a nice bit of kit Steve and you will get better the more you use it it takes a lot of practice I use a tractor and flail cutting canal side hedges here in the uk but I have been doing it years, my only comment would be do you think the controls would be better mounted a bit lower somewhere you seem to have to reach up to them quite a bit, but all round a nice machine and the David brown looks excellent.

You said something that sparked my interest only and my question is due they make a hedge trimmers that are laser controlled of some kind? I used to drive John Deere 5 series tractors to groom horse 🐎 arenas, miss the horses 🐴 not the people!
That would be nice, but they do have stabilization and gyro... with proportional adjustements but expensive

@@D3Sshooter Was wondering if it would be better for you if the controls were moved forward to a location in the area between the fender and the hood on the right side. I Realize that you could no longer get on the tractor on the right side if you make this change.

By the way, is it possible that the rear lights are wrong? I mean, normaly red lights are in the back and white ones are in the front of the vehicle. In your wheel gards, they are the opposite way and that seems wrong to me.

Very nice machine. There is an old Japanese saying "Buy quality, and you only cry once" (when you pay for it). How much is the price difference, at the 2 machines? I was wondering, why do you have red lights on the front and white lights on the back of the fenders on your tractor?

Nice toy! You are going to run out of hedge very soon. I can also see an interesting video coming on how to use a ground plane / blade to level out the pasture and avoid the variations in height you mentioned... Yea! (Come to think of it, does Lamborghini offer implements like that? Cuz you could have had a Lamborghini in your garage then...! :) )

Yep , I am as the Schelde ( river) is about 50m below my house ( the farm is on a small hill). People that are flooded are mainly houses that are build on cheaper land called flooding area's. Thanks for asking

I have a Crane truck...that runs Hydraulic cylinders ( as all do ) ...it has a Needle Valve that i can use to Slow down or Speed Up the Cylinders...you can really get your cylinders to be less Jerky using a Needle Valve ( basically it shuts off the flow or Opens up the Flow )....
My Crane goes up to 115 feet in height and i had to move a Window Washer close to buildings....it makes it Safer and less Scary for the person in the Man Basket !!
I had drain holes in case of " Accidents " 😉 ( in the pants )

With the Needle Valve closed down/closed almost fully... i can grab the Lever and it will move super slow and it is adjustable to whatever movement you want to control your cylinders.. Tiny movements are easier...or just steady slow movements....and you can open it up when needed to stow away or setup your arms quicker... Variable speeds....quicker than those individual controls you have ( and shown )...as you can do it from your tractor ..

Thanks for the comments, well the total length is 1.2 Km , cutting by hand 2 days ... as its actual 5* 1.2 Km ( 2 sides, 2 slanted tops, one top). Thanks for the comments

@@General813 , Indeed that is why I needed a tractor with a trimmer. Before and still am using a pellinc backpack battery based manual trimmer... The Diff is ready to be picked up this saterday...

A very wise decision ! Buying chinese machinery is a total waste of money, they are made at a very cheap price by people that really do not understand the purpose to which they will be used, the European machine has got a long history of design and development behind it, and you can at least contact the manufacturer in the event of any problems. Following the contours of the ground is a problem that cannot be easily solved as the ground contours are repeated up on the hedge, but I think it looks to have a bit more character that a crisp dead straight finish, it is, after all, a rural /rustic look that fits in with a rural environment. Wanting to be in control of your projects is a definite plus in your character Steve ! Not a failing, all too many people are "sheep" doing what the government/boss tells them to do, this completely kills off any innovative thoughts/actions, and the world is a worst off place for it, Stay safe! So you basically bought the David Brown because the Ferguson hat no hydrauliks and got a new hedge trimmer which doesnt use the DB hydraulic but the PTO? :)
