You know life is good when it's Christmas, it's snowing outside, you're recording a video of yourself playing the grand piano in your living room while your family is preparing Christmas dinner and to top it all off, a nice Christmas tree with beautiful lights to set the vibe. Actually, to top it even more, some Ferrero Rochers given by your cousin are waiting near the window, waiting to be consumed as a reward for playing the piano. A moment without any worries. A moment without thorns.
I am super duper early today as my meltdown is not going away (2:30am here lol).. And seeing this notification suddenly brighten this bad day into a little bit better one. I know with all my heart that I am going to listen this one every single day.. And I really have to tell you.. This new piano does has a calm n gentle tune. I can clearly see the difference compare to last year one. Oh, this one is going directly into favorite of yours. BTW thank you for starting new year with dearly beloved and I think at this point we should just make this a ritual to follow every new year, hehe. Starting every year with Dearly beloved 😅. Also, thank you again (I think I am saying it 3rd time now if counting that insta one too) for creating Dearly beloved - as I said earlier that playing this piece every single morning to wake up the person you love would be so amazing.. I listened to this last week on my way home from work. After a more or less stressful day at work it was so relaxing to listen to this piece. I had nothing else to think about and could focus only on the music, it was magical. I was captivated by your playing and have listened to this video many times since. I really love your improv-style covers; probably because it feels like you can convey yet a bit more emotion with these kind of covers. This video certainly has become one of my all time favorites.
Defo a lot of Kyle Landry influence, you really nail the gentle and elegant then gradually progressing to a more full, epic (but not overbearing) feel. I feel like that's generally his formula with the Yearly Beloved arrangements/improvs and you totally did it justice

It's hard for me to see since the camera isn't an overhead view and I'm not really skilled enough to pick it up by ear 😅
Yes that part is inspired by Kyle’s 2014 version! Unfortunately I have no sheet music, this one was entirely improvised and I don’t have the hours it would take to transcribe this from scratch

Hmm, when relistening to this song with my headphones I noticed that you used a different microphone setup than usual? Higher tones now are more obvious now in the right channel and visa versa. In my opinion it's an improvement. I hope you will keep it this way :)
The set up is exactly the same, though! Well, maybe I placed one of the mics 5 cm to the right an didn't notice - I feel like sometimes the sound changes completely at random while I record things mostly the same. I'll try to keep the sound like this though!
@@Caliko I think it‘s amazing what great sound you achieve with only two SM57s. I‘m a sound engineer and couldn‘t achieve much more with this equipment. A great, well tuned piano, good playing and a well sounding room helps here, too.

In classical training, what do they teach you beyond reading sheet music? Do you get ear and pitch training, is their exams and such ?
