From a straight (Older) Welshman . Just been watching you on tv playing the detective in the Pembrokeshire Murders. I've watched most of your acting parts on tv and film over the years and have always been impressed by your talent. So I thought I'd learn a bit more about you on Wikepedia. Only then did I learn that you were gay. I then checked out this video and then thought to myself how I was far more impressed by you as a person than all of your success as a Welsh actor. The likes of yourself are such an inspiration to young people who hide who they are when they should accept who and what they are as being perfectly normal as the rest of us. ( What the bloody hell is normal anyway?) Had some wonderful mates growing up in the valleys back in the seventies who went through hell as they couldnt come out as being gay due to many people's attitudes back then. I worked in the coal mines during the 1984/85 strike and I'm sure you must be aware of the bond which was made between the welsh mining community and the London gay community and the help and support we received . If not watch the film Pride which tells the story of how we came together because the gay community at that time were so badly treated as well. The main union Leader in the film Dai Donovan worked in our coalmine❤

Oh wow, what a powerful, inspirational interview. I first discovered Mr Evans in his role on the Netflix series The Alienist. What a treat to learn that he is just as riveting IRL.
I love that A: I was today years old that I discovered he was gay. B: that I can still fancy his fine self, because, let's face it. We'd never meet let alone connect! C: he IS representing for a quiet group of people within the LGBTQ+ community. Who don't choose to be explicit about their sexuality in the same way CIS people don't. The people who aren't "clockable". One of my friends, who is gay, is very much like Luke in that regard. He isn't a stereotype. He's a person. Someone's sexuality just is, it isn't for entertainment or box ticking or virtue signalling. The comments here, show things are moving in the right direction.

Beautiful person, beautiful soul, humility and I don't give a flying f*ck if he's gay, straight or any other definition of sexuality. If we just saw each other as 'souls' it didn't or wouldn't matter who a person decided to share their life with as it would just be another soul. Well done Luke!

Straight men fetishises/objectify and enjoy the idea of a woman having experimented or be interested in women. A woman being interested in other women doesn't, in terms of what society thinks, threaten her femininity and attractiveness. Unfortunately men who are have experiment with other men or who are into men are seen as less masculine.
Early in his career he was out, but it seemed like he was kind of slipping back into the closet as he became more famous. Don't know if that was his own choice, pressure from management, or just an unfortunate assumption.

I am not sure why someone would think that Luke Evans is not a proud gay men. As a gay man myself I find him inspiring! He's very sexy but more than anything, he seems to be a beautiful human being.
Perhaps it was the way he avoided all comment about it and his 2002 interviews with the gay press for years, while implying in women's magazines that he dated women and letting Holly Goodchild be his beard?

He actually hired PR / publicists who actively tried to present him as straight when he went to Hollywood and would not only deny he was gay but would actively attack and block and media outlets who tried to enquire or ask questions along those lines. Considering he had previously come out in interviews with the gay press when he was doing the gay-themed music Taboo in London before he went to Hollywood and was known to be a gay man publicly at that time, it was not only ridiculous but also felt like a slap in the face that he allowed himself to suddenly be positioned as being straight or wash all that information away when his movie career took off. Not cool. It's up to anyone to decide when and if they come out, but once you're out, it's a bit rich trying to hide that and then here on this video say that he was only ever being true to himself! I guess it's all the game of the media in this crazy world we live in.

I am straight and all my best friends from childhood on were LGBTQ. I honestly realized from a young age they were the most honest and tough skinned but pure hearted. Thats what I wanted from my Friendships! My hope is that the whole world can one day see through the eyes of a child!

Loved him ever since I saw him in The Hobbit movies. Loved him in Beauty and the Beast, loved him as Dracula and as Professor Marston. But mostly now, love him as a person. As someone who is LGBT and in a not ideal place, it comforts me to see there are so many of us out there, that we can be successful and do whatever our hearts desire, because we’re human. At the same time, it’s wonderful to see a gay man breaking all stereotypes associated to his identity, showing that there are as many ways to be LGBT as there are people in the community. Oh wow, what a powerful, inspirational interview. I first discovered Mr Evans in his role on the Netflix series The Alienist. What a treat to learn that he is just as riveting IRL.
I love that A: I was today years old that I discovered he was gay.
B: that I can still fancy his fine self, because, let's face it. We'd never meet let alone connect!
C: he IS representing for a quiet group of people within the LGBTQ+ community. Who don't choose to be explicit about their sexuality in the same way CIS people don't. The people who aren't "clockable".
One of my friends, who is gay, is very much like Luke in that regard. He isn't a stereotype. He's a person.
Someone's sexuality just is, it isn't for entertainment or box ticking or virtue signalling.
The comments here, show things are moving in the right direction.

Straight men fetishises/objectify and enjoy the idea of a woman having experimented or be interested in women. A woman being interested in other women doesn't, in terms of what society thinks, threaten her femininity and attractiveness. Unfortunately men who are have experiment with other men or who are into men are seen as less masculine.
Early in his career he was out, but it seemed like he was kind of slipping back into the closet as he became more famous. Don't know if that was his own choice, pressure from management, or just an unfortunate assumption.

I am not sure why someone would think that Luke Evans is not a proud gay men. As a gay man myself I find him inspiring! He's very sexy but more than anything, he seems to be a beautiful human being.
Perhaps it was the way he avoided all comment about it and his 2002 interviews with the gay press for years, while implying in women's magazines that he dated women and letting Holly Goodchild be his beard?

He actually hired PR / publicists who actively tried to present him as straight when he went to Hollywood and would not only deny he was gay but would actively attack and block and media outlets who tried to enquire or ask questions along those lines. Considering he had previously come out in interviews with the gay press when he was doing the gay-themed music Taboo in London before he went to Hollywood and was known to be a gay man publicly at that time, it was not only ridiculous but also felt like a slap in the face that he allowed himself to suddenly be positioned as being straight or wash all that information away when his movie career took off. Not cool. It's up to anyone to decide when and if they come out, but once you're out, it's a bit rich trying to hide that and then here on this video say that he was only ever being true to himself! I guess it's all the game of the media in this crazy world we live in.

Loved him ever since I saw him in The Hobbit movies. Loved him in Beauty and the Beast, loved him as Dracula and as Professor Marston. But mostly now, love him as a person. As someone who is LGBT and in a not ideal place, it comforts me to see there are so many of us out there, that we can be successful and do whatever our hearts desire, because we’re human. At the same time, it’s wonderful to see a gay man breaking all stereotypes associated to his identity, showing that there are as many ways to be LGBT as there are people in the community.
