What an odd review. This review seems to be written from the perspective of a home theater enthusiast. The KH120s are primarily designed as near field studio reference monitors. They’re not designed to sound particularly flattering or to recreate explosions at high SPLs. I’m sure the police won’t come and arrest somebody for using them for home theater but one should consider the intended design/purpose of the speaker. Also the comment of needing stereo subwoofers for a proper system is misleading and probably creates more confusion among those who might be accessing this review for information. I’m curious. What led you to purchase these for watching movies at home? Are there other alternatives better suited to home theater than a purposely designed “flat” studio near field monitor?
Of course it's odd... the dude has no idea what a live instrument sounds like or how to even engineer a passive speaker, and he's trying to do audio equipment reviews...LOL
Congratulations on your new speakers. Could you make a video on your room correction routine? Perhaps additionally the crossover design and time alignment.
Would it be worth buying the KH-120 instead of the KH-80 if i listen at max at 96dB@1.7m? (reference level for my room size) Any reason you didn't go for genelecs? (8030C)
@@sharuraudio How noisy is the 8030 if you sit 60cm away from them in silence? Yes and can you put white noise on them all the time so they don't get annoying

Having tested Neumann’s KH 120 ii some weeks ago, I only have congratulations to the brand. They are completely flat and minimal distortion at 85 dB @ 1m. Using them further than a couple of meters is not recommended, as they are designed for near field analytical listening. Better options to your purposes would be 8 inches monitors, even with the mentioned 110 dB SPL max on the specs, is only reasonable to play them at 93 dB @ 1m to keep them under control. I finally get Genelecs 8030C, with future adding 7050 sub to get the 30-85 Hz range also
@@sharuraudio I find them fine, but had the impression you would need more SPL in your video. In my case is different, I listen to acoustic music mainly, and as piano monitors. In both situations I rarely go up to more than 77 dB per pair, so no distortion at all. Well, arguably transients at 77 dB can reach 97 dB but I’m about 70-73 dB per speaker so also under control. I use WiiM Ultra actually, has a 10 parameters PEQ, very useful to room corrections but only one sub lineout.
Can you tell me what I should choose for normal use (not work) at home on a computer desk for listening at a distance of 60 cm and taking into account that I only have a partially prepared room? Genelec 8320, 8030 or maybe Neumann? I don't understand which speaker will sound more interesting for pleasure than for work.
@@VamIy I don’t think there’s a more pleasant monitor, is a matter of taste. Genelec 8020D is a very appreciated monitor specifically designed for desktop, I have a pair. Frequency response curve is better on Neumann KH80, and goes deeper but I didn’t like the tonality, but again this is just my preference. You cannot go wrong with these 4 inch speakers, both are state of the art small desktop monitors. My actual setup on desktop is a pair of Genelec 8020D and one subwoofer Genelec 7040A that matches perfectly tonality with the speakers. @@miguelalonsoperez5609 Thank you. And why do you like the 8030C less in the near field? Are the lows too much for you? I ended up choosing between the 8320A for $1100, the 8030C for $1200, and the 8330A for $1900... I've never heard a Genelec and realize the best option is the 8330A but almost $2k for something you haven't listened to is very intimidating. I have an unfurnished room and a corner table so I'm leaning heavily towards the GLM version but on the other hand this is now so in a year I'll probably move and maybe I'll be fine with the 8030C already...
Is not mandatory to use the DSP compensations in the monitors; you have good settings in the back of the speakers. Normally subwoofers work under 85 Hz and are no possibility to distinguish from left to right as the wave length is above 4 meters… so one sub is enough. These are professional monitors, not multimedia speakers. They are excellent in measures and this ensure that with appropriate room corrections (physical corrections, not DSP that only is a patch) will sound as closer as possible to the original recording, which are intended for…
@@sharuraudio you’re right, thanks for correction: more subwoofers help to homogenize lows response in the room avoiding nulls… in my room I have not a lot of problems but at some points bass response is cancelled with a big dip at 42 Hz.
