Usually on air, Ricky always provide awesome feedback about on going play. When India was playing against SA in Kolkata, he said why didn’t SA batters take chance and to go hard on Indian bowlers. The reason being India have only five bowlers in their team so if you successfully hammered couple of bowlers they would be under pressure. Moreover, that match was free match to experiment for SA as they were through to the semifinal.
I think the same thing he has passed on to Aussie before match. Go and hammer the Indian bowling attack. They will panic. Thats what happened.
If that was what happened then they would not have lost wickets. The pitch clearly failed India. Australia had a huge advantage.

We were not ready to accept when the initial pitch doctored came up against the NZ match many said that the west is not able to digest the success and some even said it's the same pitch for both. One more important thing to notice, in the semis a raging turning wicket was prepared to take out Aus against SA who happen to have Shamsi and Maharaj whereas Aus only has one spinner in Zampa who isnt a mystry spinner, Aus lost the toss but bowled and fielded like demons in the first 15 overs to limit SA to 212. As the game went on, there was a maniac turn on the pitch but Aus managed to get over the line with 3 wickets. Against the odds, against the conditions, against every plotting planning, Aus deserved to win this world cup. I can understand for ICT fans who were emotionally invested in the tournament not being able to accept this but Aus brought their A game in semis and the final.

Re the pitch, I think India were worried someone like Warner or Maxwell would go off with a big hundred and wanted to make it more spin friendly. The strange thing was, they only included one (very good) part time spinner in Jadaja. Kudos to Cummins for bowling first when most thought the safe option was to set a score and defend.

I love Punter, a absolute champion. He is wise as well because l have no doubt he would make a better Captain today than when he played. His knowledge has gained watching cricket instead of the pressure associated with actually playing & being Captain. Well, it’s payback for the fourth test, where India killed the pitch so Australia couldn’t tie the series. And that was after three consecutive dry turners which were difficult batting surfaces. But we are used to this. India do it every time, even to the extent of doctoring small patches of the pitch to help their bowlers, and neutralising opposing bowlers. We know this because the curator in Chennai admitted it about 8 years ago, and it had been going on for decades, including neutralising the part of the pitch where Warne landed his big spinners. All I can say is that the spirit of cricket is a very, very confusing concept when this is simply permitted year after year.

Agree, In India political dominance is extreme in sport, that why they took Gujarat as final host not Mumbai or other good sporting peach. Indian politics want to manipulate the peach and the natural flow of the game. All these factors lead to fear of failure and natural sporting ability for sportsmans. BCCI should be blamed for this peach mess up.
Why do these analysts blame everything but the most proximate cause - the performance of the players? The Australians played a much better game than the Indians. They deservedly won. It is not really about the pitch or Ponting's advice or any such ancillary factors.

What Ricky Pointing said was true but the Aussies had already thoroughly analyzed the pitch based on overall statistics in regards to the conditions, so they knew that the dew would make it easier to bat later.
Which is why they concluded it would be best to bowl FIRST.
Whereas India not only chose the pitch and got exactly what they wanted but the IRONY is that they didn’t do their own research on the history of the conditions. It backfired against them.
Australia outplayed India! Firstly the pitch, then with aggressive fielding, rotating the bowlers often so India couldn’t develop a rhythm and after they lost 3 wickets they then restricted the batters, one 4 in 90 balls speaks for itself.
Australia quickly got runs on the board so when they lost 3 wickets they were able to stay calm but still play aggressively which is what Travis Head did with Marcus holding down the other end.
So India can make all the excuses they like about the pitch but it was their decision to bat first, they were outsmarted with the pitch, then simply outplayed by the Aussies on every level. There’s a reason why Australia are 6 time World Cup champions!

@@ajitpani2113 it was NOT luck, if you bothered to watch Pat Cummins’s press conference after the match he was asked why he bowled first and he said it was due to the work the analysts did using past statistics, especially about the effects the dew had on the pitch and the results of those matches. He even thanked them for their work.
The dew effect isn’t new, other older Australian cricketers even commented on how the conditions would change after the dew arrived.
The Indians should’ve known this already instead they didn’t do their due diligence and ignored the conditions, it was their own fault whereas Australia used their knowledge about the pitch to bowl first. India was outsmarted in their own country on a pitched they picked themselves, it backfired on them.

Doesn't make sense to me .. if India prepared a slow pitch for spinners why the heck was Ashwin left out?! There should have been 3 spinners to terrorize going by that logic. I think India prepared a two-paced dodgy slow used wicket that would be hard to bat going first up. In fact, Rohit would have also bowled first if he had won the toss. He just white lied when he said that he would have batted first. Indian management thought Australia would bat first 100% if they won the toss. However, Cummins sprang a huge surprise on Rohit when he opted to bowl first. Game over and the plan back-fired big time!

Yes you will win a lot of games with that team. The India ODI team is awesome right now. Pitch tampering has always annoyed me. Every country does it. As we know there is a toss at the start of the game. Its always a gamble. However, it adds another level of tactics. What I don't like is hearing Indian (or any other home country) winging that the game was lost because of the pitch. It was your pitch! Anyway, it was a great world cup and I wouldn't worry about India cricket.

If we look at all the series played in India since 2004, most of the matches were completed in less than four days, many of them in three days.
