A great project. Purple is my second favourite colour after black. I actually like how it turned out in regards to 'right side vs. wrong side' because it looks like a book is being opened. But I'm assuming from your perspective the quilted side is the front and the plain/labeled side is the back. I see this the other way round which is why I'm saying it looks great. I like the hardware and handle attachment. I was telling myself you hadn't added any form of handle/strap. I will have a go at making one of these but I will make a toile first (I ALWAYS make a toile first when making a first time project).
I just had an idea about making the edges more 'coffin shaped'. I have a pattern for making an Easter egg basket from fabric and to make the edges look 'square' they sewed tiny stitches into the top corners to pinch them out. I'm assuming this would only work if the bag was made from fabric. But an idea any way.
