Awesome video gentlemen. I remember being a young adult when this happened. This was after the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany and the fall of communism (socialism) in the USSR aka Russia. The crowd was celebrating the fact they could now openly enjoy those things us Americans take for granted. The military tried to control the crowds but ended up getting into the music with the crowd later according to James Hetfield, the lead singer of Metallica. That is also why you see the helicopters. I believe there was about one and a half million people there and the Russian government didn't know what to expect, so they had heavy military presence. It is nice to see young people enjoying all kinds of music and appreciating it. Great video and keep up the good work! 😊
As a Dane, I can proudly say lars ulrich was the founder of the band. His father was a tennis player, and wanted his son to be aswell, but he was more fond of his drums. Thus he went to America, and made the "amerocan dream" a reality 😎🇺🇸🤘

I had all access back stage passes back in 1989 And Justice For All your, official guest of Jason Newsted. Hot to party with these boys.

Nothing former about it, this is a month or so before the Soviet Union dissolved... Tushino was still a military airbase and those uniforms are still Soviet Army.

Guys I have a story for you and Enter Sandman. I was taking my niece and friends to Tallica. So building up to it I was cranking Tallica. My youngest at 5y/o learned Sandman. In school they did song circle. Most kids sang something childish. Amanda stood up grabbed a pillow and sang Sandman with only one eye open. This was 20 years ago. So no cellphones or cameras but the teachers were cracking up. Amanda's first concert was Tallica as well.
I was a 16yo boy in the soviet bloc at that time, it was a historic moment. There's no other drug like freedom. I love watching reactions to this, and how most of the people reacting don't even understand the significance of what they're watching at the moment. :D

The band was formed in 1981 when Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield both posted an ad in the local newspaper looking for a partner to jam with. For all the military on site, that was because the USSR just falled a few months previously and they where not use to this kind of event, the crowd was that big because it was the first time is Russian history that they've had an American rock concert.
Metallica started out in the early 80s in the San Francisco area as far as I know. I think the military were there in Moscow for crowd control and security and I heard James Hetfield describe that the military didn't understand the energy and release of a rock concert and he said the military just beat people down when they thought they were too boisterous just beat them down with clubs.
You mentioned them feeding off of the crowd. On this tour, they had a stage that had a mosh pit in the center. They loved having fans in the middle of their stage.
This was the song that would play when Mariano Rivera (previous closer for the Yankees) would come into the game. He was one of the best, if not THE best closer of ALL TIME. And this song definitely hyped him and everyone else up when it played as he ran out from the bullpen to the mound. I always loved hearing that and seeing him run out.

They don't do alotta licensing..protective of their music ....and played w a symphony orchestra recently for the 2nd time..yeah Metal meets Classical!!! James Hetfield (Lead Singer/guitarist) & Lars Ulrich (Drums) first formed in Los Angeles in 1981 and based in San Francisco most of its career. Bassist in this video is Jason Newstead but replaced by Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett on guitar who just SHREDS SOLOS !!! They are still on tour. I saw them when "Then Black Album" with Enter Sandman on it came out & the concert was AWESOME !!! There's a recent appearance on The Golden Globes with their hit song "A Moth Into a Flame" with Lady Gaga. They STILL SHRED the guitar, even showing their ages. Hope you can check it out. I seen them twice growing up...the first time I seen them, I went deaf for 2 days (worth it). The second was 7 years later...my chest hurt for 3 days. You can not prepare yourself for the first base drum of Enter Sandman (usually the opening song). Good times
Guys I have a story for you and Enter Sandman. I was taking my niece and friends to Tallica. So building up to it I was cranking Tallica. My youngest at 5y/o learned Sandman. In school they did song circle. Most kids sang something childish. Amanda stood up grabbed a pillow and sang Sandman with only one eye open. This was 20 years ago. So no cellphones or cameras but the teachers were cracking up. Amanda's first concert was Tallica as well.

The band was formed in 1981 when Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield both posted an ad in the local newspaper looking for a partner to jam with. For all the military on site, that was because the USSR just falled a few months previously and they where not use to this kind of event, the crowd was that big because it was the first time is Russian history that they've had an American rock concert.

Metallica started out in the early 80s in the San Francisco area as far as I know. I think the military were there in Moscow for crowd control and security and I heard James Hetfield describe that the military didn't understand the energy and release of a rock concert and he said the military just beat people down when they thought they were too boisterous just beat them down with clubs.
That concert hall is HUGE! And they go wild there! Best I have seen on a video from Moscow was AC DC live
You mentioned them feeding off of the crowd. On this tour, they had a stage that had a mosh pit in the center. They loved having fans in the middle of their stage.
This was the song that would play when Mariano Rivera (previous closer for the Yankees) would come into the game. He was one of the best, if not THE best closer of ALL TIME. And this song definitely hyped him and everyone else up when it played as he ran out from the bullpen to the mound. I always loved hearing that and seeing him run out.

It most definitely was on WWE/ECW. This was the entrance theme for the wrestler, ironically named, The Sandman.
They started in San Francisco over 35 years ago...coupla changes in the lineup but James, Lars and Kirk ORIGINAL MEMBERS. They don't do alotta licensing..protective of their music ....and played w a symphony orchestra recently for the 2nd time..yeah Metal meets Classical!!! Saw them live a year and a half ago in Vegas...after 20 yrs of seeing them back east . They r better than ever❤️
Metallica, Motley fuckin Crue, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Van Halen got me through my misery during my teens.
Now that I'm a post-menopausal Lady, they still do. Rock n' roll is the Fountain of Youth! If I was in that crowd now, I'd definately have to wear adult diapers! But I still go to concerts with my daughter.

James Hetfield (Lead Singer/guitarist) & Lars Ulrich (Drums) first formed in Los Angeles in 1981 and based in San Francisco most of its career. Bassist in this video is Jason Newstead but replaced by Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett on guitar who just SHREDS SOLOS !!! They are still on tour. I saw them when "Then Black Album" with Enter Sandman on it came out & the concert was AWESOME !!! There's a recent appearance on The Golden Globes with their hit song "A Moth Into a Flame" with Lady Gaga. They STILL SHRED the guitar, even showing their ages. Hope you can check it out. The helicopters were used to keep the crowd from overheating. The towers in the crowd are speaker towers so people can hear in the back.
