@@SNBattleReports O one more thing, you can't use shields when you use halberds, when using them as halberds they are classified as a two handed weapon. Other than that loved watching another battle report again, nice and friendly.
@@crisisgear He actually used the spears but mispoke and said halberds. He mentioned fighting in two ranks except on the charge, so that seemed clear to me.
Sorry for the late jumping back in on this but the rules seem actually quite clear. P145 dictates the steps to resolve combat. P150 "Fight On" discusses lower initiative fighters who have still to go. You do NOT get to choose who to fight again so may not change who you are attacking. If you were not eligible to fight in the challenge you don't get to do so later just because one of the challengers is now freed up. You missed your chance. The players in this battle did it correctly as per the rules.
It's not a failed charge if the charged unit flees. You move the full rolled charge move (p. 129): "If the charging unit does not make contact with the fleeing unit, it moves forward its full charge range. It has not made a failed charge - the charge target ran away."
@@Chris_da_Waaaghno worries, even if there are some oversights (assailment spells can be cast in any close combat phase for example), no big deal. The game is new and mistakes happen.
@@Chris_da_Waaagh Additionally, in turn two with the multi-charge into the fleeing savage orcs; I'm fairly certain that after the flee move was taken, both units would have been allowed to attempt a redirect (if a viable target was present) and the pegasus knights would have also rolled for the charge and moved the full distance i believe. it is somewhat unclear since the rules only specifically state that multiple units charging into the same arc move simultaneously, but the charges are declared at the same time, then the charge reaction is resolved, followed by the charge(s) being resolved
I don't know if anyone else has said this, but assailment spells are cast every turn you are in combat. Pg 108 of the rulebook describes when a spell can be cast, and assailment spells say "can be cast when wizard fights IN ANY combat phase."

Says on page 202 in the rulebook that the characters and the mounts use their own weapons. So its correct that magic weapons are only to the wielder, and not the mount👍
The example with the hippo actually shows why it is 100% necessary to be able to reform wider. Otherwise no matter how big your unit is and expensive every monster is just killing your ass. Why? because the most likely result is fall back in good order. Which leads to the monster having the ini bonus and charge bonuses every single turn, without ever being in the open. It just kills the fighting rank (can challenge out chars at any time and with overkill will likely win as well). Giving up your static combat res to have a chance to deal damage back (and with that also basically giving up the unit) is important to have a counter mechanism against this kind of monsters of which the hippo is one of the tamer examples...

Awesome battle report, Chris and Pardo! And great looking battlefield and armies! I know the game already lasted super long, but I think the Brets could have also killed enough models in their last turn to break the Orcs (And then end the game in a tie, I guess?). After destroying the chariot, the Duke could overrun 3D6, which puts him in charge range into the rear of the last Black Orc block for the last turn. Since it'd be a rear charge, he can't be tied up in a challenge by the unit Champion or Boss, therefore allowing him to kill as many models as possible. With these two favorable charges, the Brets should kill enough models to brings the Orcs below their breaking point. But an absolutely amazing battle nontheless! Love your Old World content!

I wonder if you were to field more cavalry units that that might mean you would be better off with the lance formation as one of its benefits would be to make charging more than one unit of cavalry into the same target easier? At the moment you've got quite a lot of infantry for a Bretonnia army and perhaps as you find more opponents allocating their attacks properly as Chris did and so eliminating the grail monks that you will find the men-at-arms less effective and start replacing some of them? Of course it may be that they continue to do a good job a lot of the time as Black Orcs were always going to be too much for them, I wouldn't be too surprised to see similar outcomes for the monks and resultant breaking quite often though. I realise Chris almost missed out on getting the monk the first time though I think he could have allocated another attack or two into him if he hadn't checked his rules and found he didn't need to so would probably have killed him anyway.
Doh... So they do! Although if this is for the peasant bowmen, when they fled they were outside of my max charge range anyway so wouldn't have mattered, but still.. you are right 😊
When the duke beat the black orcs with the savage orc in the flank. The savage orcs could use the leadership of the big boss (not general) as all characters exude their leadership in an aura equal to their leadership value.
Hey mate thanks. Caliban green base, Warboss green layer, skarsnik green highlight. Beware: it becomes very tedious due to the greens having poor coverage and therefore requires several thin coats.
@@Cyrsia I didn't experiment with contrast. Originally when I started I wanted to go back to the old days when I done the layering technique and went old school. If I was going to start over I would consider priming light grey and base colouring the skin with Warboss green or a Vallejo equivalent, then using Biel tan green to wash it all and highlight up from there. That would mean you could use contrast paint on all the other parts
re: gaze of gork, given that it mentions hitting your own units, I'd lean towards allowing it to be fired into combat, even if other magic missile spells generally cant be.
I'm fairly sure that Earthen Rampart should have gone off in turn 1, level 3 adds 3 to the dice roll and orcs have a rule where their orc casters get mob rule +1if the unit strength is 10 or more.

@2:35:41 When a Unit Panics from being Fled Through it will flee feom the nearest enemy unit. If the unit that Paniced is above half strength this is a Fall Back in Good Order. Note that FBIGO is a Flee, with the only exceptions being the distance and that the unit automatically rallies at the end. Otherwise the unit moves as if Fleeing and will cause Panic in units nearby or Fled through. You seemed to have some questions about this at some points, so that might clear it up. @2:43:38 Attacks with Multiple Wounds do count the full Wounds they caused in a challenge for Overkill.
Awesome game guys! Double check, but i do believe to get the combat resolution bonus for closed order units they need to be in a 'Combat Formation' meaning at least 2 models must be touching, in a formation further wide than they are deep. Which sadly means individual monsters would not actually get any bonus for it.
Hey mate individual monsters do get the close order bonus due to the lumbering special rule that allows them to claim the bonus despite being just a single model. 😊
Im sure we got a few things wrong but hey, be kind and let us know if you spot anything, preferably with a rukebook reference :) may the hobby be the winner.
For the swiftstride + fall back in good order interaction, on the BBB page 134 you clearly see that FBIGO follows the exact same rules as Flee (they even say Flee roll) except it rallies automatically after moving. So you can apply swiftstride.
Also, if your unit strength is higher than the unit causing fear, you never need to check for fear. Page 168 of the BBB. That's why single entity monsters apply terror but rarely cause fear tests.
Remember to take Panic checks when units Flee a combat (Break or FBIGO). When the Knights lost the first combat I believe the Men at Arms were within 6" to take a Panic check.

dig the battle field , do you paint yourself or hire others.. showing the army up close , makes the people watching like it more its very cool doing that
Don't know why there's any controversy about the challenges thing, it's the same as it was in 7th and earlier (never played 8th so no idea how it worked there). It's basically a completely separate combat within a combat and is treated as such. Another thing that is the same as it ever was is shooting: those modifiers have always been there. Bret archers are just shit, you need volume of fire at a single target and to stop moving them. Also, when pursuing a FBIGO it's not a new combat, it's a continuation, you count as charging (and get initiative bonuses in the same way) but don't get any 'first round of combat' abilities like hatred.
always good to see nice looking terrain and painted minis, sadly 3hr battle reports too long. Editing down will help viewing, you can always let your patreons the unedited
of course the pilgrims are late for the battle! First they needed go to the butcher and get horse bones. Then go to the clothier and steal fabrics. And last but not least, dig up the old Grail Knight to put him on the colorful dead horse xD
Yeah and the model got +d3 attacks, the mount and the rider is the same model. But regardless I really think that all virtues should only effect the knight who has swore to uphold a ideal.
I am in love with the colour scheme for those black orcs, I think I might mimic in for my own Orc only only. Also, what was the idea behind arming the black orcs the way you did?
Thanks mate. Recipe incase you want it: Skin: Caliban green, Warboss green, skarsnik green. Armour: chaos black primer, edge chopping syltyle highlight with iron hands silver. Red: mephiston red, wash agrax, layer evil sunz scarlet and fire dragon bright. As for the load out: I just wanted to try a mix, but it's awkward, janky and I messed it up lol
@Chris_da_Waaagh I don't like complicated lists or units so I equipped my black orcs: one unit with great weapons and shields, the other with additional hand weapons and shields. That way I have a choice of what to use to fight and there's one good vs high armour and one good vs low armour.
Shooting is a tricky thing, it seems like it's either too powerful or luck luster. I don't know what would be good solution. I think that as always the best position would be if they were really good but hard to use, so for example if bowmen would be really good but only in certain positions that is hard to achieve then good player could use them, and good opponents deny them. But is easier say than done.
@@SNBattleReportsI might be to ambitious but I would like to have at least 3 types of projectile units with different strengths and weaknesses. For example bretonian archers would be a typical attrition unit, as you pointed they can shoot over units, cap at -2, long as range (I would go longer that 75cm) they don't make much damage but the chip constantly 2-3 wound and their damage input is almost constant since they will have long range and shoot over units. On the other hand gunner could be shock type missile weapon, great damage output, low range, can't shoot over units, the player then would need to expertly position then since they have a narrow window of opportunity to achieve their goal, but if used correctly they have 1 o 2 round were they could make the difference if they target the correct enemy. Well I can dream I guess...
Definitely not a fan of rolling a dice to decide if he can shoot his magic missile and then you changing your mind! It’s not targeting a unit so he can shoot it wherever, even hitting his own troops I imagine. Love your reports nonetheless! Chris you seem like a great sport to play against!
Thanks, but as much as I would have liked to have done it, it's always better to give the benefit to the opponent if I'm unsure. I think there's probably a general consensus now that it can be done... So Ill do it next time 😊
A magic MUST target a unit (it's in the rule of magic misile). The fact than you draw a line to know how many hits you get dont change the nature of the spell (a magic missile). In my mind they have made the good choice. You can't target a unit engaged in close combat so your magic missile can't target them.

Love it boys. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
To cast spells they need to be within your arc of sight but to not need line of sight unless specified
Thanks Champ was s bit confused when recording
Looking forward to watching this!
Enjoy 📺
Love seeing old world battle reports
Thanks
I don't have any answers to stuff Pardo asked but I'll comment just for the algorithm
Yeyyyy
Orc chariots have warband and and can reroll charges
Perfect thanks Steve!!
Doh...
Can you provide the rulebook reference because I can only see that inspiring presence is for your general only (Pg 203)
Page 202 command range.
While every character has command range, only the general has the "Inspiring presence" ability to pass on Ld without being in a unit.
@@toms4079 yeah that doesn't confer his LD to other units. It's only inspiring presence from the general my friend.
I've been diddled in past games in this case 😅

Loving this channel
Loving the Freddy Fazbear reference
19 mins in....think the Black Orks are going to win
Haha thanks! Enjoy the rest of the battle! Waaaaaghhhh
@Chris_da_Waaagh slightly offtopic: I also decided to start with orks in TOW, how did you paint the skin? I very much like the darker green tone!
Hey mate thanks. Caliban green base, Warboss green layer, skarsnik green highlight. Beware: it becomes very tedious due to the greens having poor coverage and therefore requires several thin coats.
@@Chris_da_WaaaghAwesome, thanks! Did you experiment with Contrast or do you think the results wouldn`t be so great?
@@Cyrsia I didn't experiment with contrast. Originally when I started I wanted to go back to the old days when I done the layering technique and went old school. If I was going to start over I would consider priming light grey and base colouring the skin with Warboss green or a Vallejo equivalent, then using Biel tan green to wash it all and highlight up from there. That would mean you could use contrast paint on all the other parts
@@Chris_da_WaaaghThanks a lot! Can't wait to see the boyz in another battle :)
re: gaze of gork, given that it mentions hitting your own units, I'd lean towards allowing it to be fired into combat, even if other magic missile spells generally cant be.
Absolutely love the trees. Are they made from real roots/plants?
Yes sir! 😃
Chris, you are paragon of knowing the rules but not taking advantage of them, and playing the game the way it should be played
I still have a fair bit to learn but I thoroughly appreciate the compliment, thank you
@@Chris_da_Waaagh well I'd far rather play someone who know some of the rules and plays fair, than someone who knows them all and games them
I'm fairly sure that Earthen Rampart should have gone off in turn 1, level 3 adds 3 to the dice roll and orcs have a rule where their orc casters get mob rule +1if the unit strength is 10 or more.
Hey mate sadly not. The shaman has to be in a unit of 10 or more orcs for him to get the +1. And because of the flying carpet, I couldn't join a unit.
Chris just answered that for us both 😆
@@Chris_da_Waaagh Ah good shout somehow i forgot about that.
wonderfully painted armies!
Thank you very much
@52:45 I think you could have used Stubborn, it says that the Unit can "choose not to (make a Break test)" and instead Fall Back in Good Order.
By the way your second unit of knights errant is illegal, you may have one unit of knights errant for each unit of knights of the realm.
Interesting thanks! What page is this on
@@SNBattleReportsPg 85 of forces of fantasy for the army selection. Probably just an oversight from using newrecruit
@@SNBattleReports Page 85. And for the insult you wanted 🤪It's rare to find a peasant more intelligent than any other being, let alone a pilgrim who holds their shield the wrong way up.
@@SNBattleReportsPage 85 of the Forces of Fantasy book. In the kingdom of bretonnia army list says "0-1 unit of Knight errant per Knight of the realm mounted or on foot taken"
@@crisisgearI now cannot unsee the upside down shield.... 😮
Panic checks I do believe you fall back in good order. So the units should have rallies.
Yeah we definitely missed this. We realised after... This was previous edition knowledge creeping in! Silly us!
Uuuu didn’t know this thanks
Great report. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Champ
The reliquary dudes were searching for a shrubbery.
Timely! TY
Awesome! Keep the TOW content coming :D
Thanks! Will do!
Lovely models guys
They are!
Name that duke Panoramix 😂😂
What a mutant knight was that ❤
😂
@@SNBattleReports I’m also very curious about the offensive format of that Duke 🤴
Thanks though and glad you enjoyed it
Seen Chris has already answered buddy. Glad you enjoyed
My lord ate some spicy stuff yesterday and he's had , a small "thing" with his potty !
😆
Im sure we got a few things wrong but hey, be kind and let us know if you spot anything, preferably with a rukebook reference :) may the hobby be the winner.
you spelt rulebook wrong
😂
@@warp5p1d3r6😔 you sir... Win
Chariot wouldn’t be impetuous so close to the Black Orcs
Why is this?
True.. black orcs have quell impetuosity. Didn't matter anyway tbh
Degeneration X proudly brings to you it's tag team champions of the worrrrrrrrrrld! The Roaddog Jesse James, The Badass Billy Gunn! The New Age Outlaws!!!!
Yessssss!

Betting on Bretonnia due to mobility and being able to attack with the initiative. However, it's always fun to root for the underdog.
Enjoy Champ!
dig the battle field , do you paint yourself or hire others.. showing the army up close , makes the people watching like it more its very cool doing that
Some are painted by ourselves some by commission. The battlefield is all set by us
Lovely brettonians!
Thank you very much
Oh Pardo you fool of a took!
Hahaha
Bretonnia for the win today, the charge of the knights breaking the orcs
🛡️ 🔥
Sadly already edited it down a lot 😂
Love these batreps!
of course the pilgrims are late for the battle! First they needed go to the butcher and get horse bones. Then go to the clothier and steal fabrics. And last but not least, dig up the old Grail Knight to put him on the colorful dead horse xD
The Hyppogriph gains +d3 attack2 too for the virtue, "the model gains d3 attacks rule and hate"
See we don’t think so as we say in the game
Only the Knight get the vitue not the mount
Yeah and the model got +d3 attacks, the mount and the rider is the same model. But regardless I really think that all virtues should only effect the knight who has swore to uphold a ideal.
Green is DA BEST!! Ah'nd always wins!
Enjoy 🔥
I am in love with the colour scheme for those black orcs, I think I might mimic in for my own Orc only only.
Also, what was the idea behind arming the black orcs the way you did?
Thanks mate. Recipe incase you want it:
Skin: Caliban green, Warboss green, skarsnik green.
@Chris_da_Waaagh
I don't like complicated lists or units so I equipped my black orcs: one unit with great weapons and shields, the other with additional hand weapons and shields.
That way I have a choice of what to use to fight and there's one good vs high armour and one good vs low armour.
@@armasaurusrex3158 after mixing it up last game, I think I might be the same going forward.
@Chris_da_Waaagh I inspire the army lists, you inspire the paint scheme. Our powers combined, we are, one normal TOW black orc player 😅
We need a cap on 2 modifiers
We also need archers to be able to fire over units with a modifier
Rolled a 4 up then still went back on the ruling 😆
Any army of Black Orcs? They can't lose!
Haha
18:19 I'll put my money on Pardo and his fancy pants knights on horseback
🙌🏽 😘
You can 100% use gaze of gork against units in combat just like with cannons
Ok I’ll bite. I want for the Bretonnians to win and I think that they will 😄 (commenting before watching as you suggested)
😢 😂
For the lady!
@@Chris_da_WaaaghFinally finished the video. Congratulations on the win! Wonderful list with the amped up Black Orks! You definitely deserved the win. And you were a great opponent with stellar sportsmanship! Here’s to many more games! 🍻
@@Angeloflight444 thanks mate, really glad you enjoyed it. Because I used old world builder to make my list I forgot that only 1 unit of black orcs could be stubborn! Doh.. anyway, hopefully it didn't take away from the game. Loved playing it.
@@Chris_da_Waaagh Nah, I don’t think it took anything away! It’s a complicated game for sure. Sometimes I think they might need to streamline some stuff but then again that would maybe take away customization options for the player.

Acording to FAQ if enemy falls back in good order you count as charging but IT is same combat so you do not get rerols from haterd and other usr working only in first turn of combat
Correct we didn’t know until after the game which is great
