Susanne is pure talent, you would love her song memorial, it’s an amazing ride, a masterpiece 😊

This is like a soundtrack to a movie. I’ve listened to it hundreds of times it’s always new pictures and I never see the same movie twice!

4:24 - Love the way she chooses to sing “footsteps” here… very theatrical in the best way possible. Fitting. “Your _footsteps_ on the ground…”
Thank you for the reaction! It’s interesting that this song is from the same album that has Undercover. Or [maybe] it makes perfect sense. In a few months we’re finally getting new Susanne songs (“If You Want Me” and “The Mourning Sun” w/ Röyksopp).
    - - -
“Q: So, ‘Music For People In Trouble’. What trouble are these people in?
Susanne Sundfør: I mean, the world is sort of in trouble. We’ve been in trouble before and gotten through it, but now it seems like we’re spending a lot of resources and it’s kind of worrying. I think that people are starting to wake up, and I think that will be fine, but at the same time there is an ‘if’ there…and I think that causes quite a lot of anxiety in people. But this is just my observation, my take on it. It might be that everything’s fine and it’s all gonna be fine…it’s just based on the things that I read in the news - and not just tabloid news or whatever, but all over the place. It seems like scientists are quite worried about the state of the planet. So how should you relate to that emotionally?
I think a lot of people just push it away and do their thing, and don’t necessarily think about it - but then what about people who can’t do that, like me? I can’t just push it away. I keep imagining scenarios and it’s probably not very healthy, but still. The album is also about my emotional trouble the last few years…”

Oh, and annoying nitpick: the title ‘should’ be Susanne, not Suzanne. It could help with the search results/video discoverability, otherwise I wouldn’t have mentioned it. Cheers. And congratulations on 70k! 😊

The instrumental interlude in the middle takes one aback for a while and makes you a bit uneasy, but it really creates an enormous emotional high, or a release, when she starts singing again. Amazing.

İ'm so happy that you reacted to her again.
"The sound of war" is a wonderful piece of art!
But I have to say that all the songs contained in that album are gorgeous. Susanne is an incredible songwriter and
"Music for people in trouble" is such a wonderful album!
I hope you'll react to other songs from it (like "No one believes in love anymore", or "Mountaineers")

When this first started I have to admit it didn't sound like war and I thought of it as like the calm before the storm and expected it to break into war. But now I feel it as more like the sound the loved ones, such as wives left behind as the men go off to war, which to them would be the sound of war. The lonely sound of those waiting at home. Even the bombers at the end as they fly overhead.

thank you you lovely two for choosing this reccomendation, this makes me really happy! this song is going so deep, i'm addicted to it, it becomes more and more intense each time listening to it. the whole record is just so damn big. to see and feel this song live must be some kind of a religious experience and i'm really sad that there is so little material to find of this concert. they played it sitting behind a thin curtain, on which projections where displayed.
i think in the album version she blends sounds of bombs into the beat. not totally sure though, but for me it sounds like bombs.
    yes, i've enjoyed your reaction!

Thanks for suggesting this 😉This song was my first favourite from the Barbican album, it‘s just incredible. For some weeks now my favourite has been Mountaineers. Both of these songs are much better in this live version than on the studio album which is already so good. She‘s just such a great performer…I love her!

  • @mmmaxxx__

I believe what's in the beginning section is the storytelling of the people affected, knowing they were leaving everything behind because they were in immediate danger, and they didn't have time to think, so the song frames the situation retrospectively. It lets you look back to that moment of escaping for the first time, with the understanding that you didn't have time to think then, so this song lets you reflect on it now. Like grief.
That soundscape bridge in the middle, are the military drones, so this song must be referring to the US bombings in the middle east.
I believe the mood after the drones is one of survival. The lyrics in this section are "We will no longer fear sirens and despair". Whatever comes after this horrible tragedy, good or bad, it can't stop our unstoppable force to survive.

OMG!! You get how Sundfør just so effortless she flips between vibrato and Flat voice!!? In her voice there are many Mansions. The sheer technique..

Nice to see another Susanne Sundfør reaction. I do prefer the 'Live At Spelleman' version, which is a bit faster, although it doesn't have the instrumental coda. Check out Memorial, IMO that song is her magnum opus: a 10 min work of art that will leave you speechless.

I can listen to “balkong” and not cry…sobb..okay, I’ll try again..sobbing…sobbing sobbing sobbing. I don’t know why this song is making me feel so emotional, I don’t cry when I read the lyrics only but put on the music…and there you go, I’m a human Titanic.

@Mike (got a tip for you)
Read this on r/prorevenge and thought of you guys ;-)
Ok, so my cousin is a prankster. She likes telling jokes and one of her favorites, is during the holidays, she likes to tell me my uncle, her dad, is coming to pick me up. If i'm being honest, my uncle is not a nice man. He yells at me and everyone for everything, he lies about people to make them look bad and him look good, he makes fun of me for being overweight. He's very verbally abusive, it's gotten to the point where i've pretty much gray rocked him (Which is basically No Contact).
And her favorite prank is telling me that he's coming to pick me up to take me to family gatherings, which i usually avoid going to if he's there. And 2 hours in the car with him? That's literally hell. So, a couple weeks ago, she lied and told me he called and was gonna come pick me up for my birthday. I felt like i was having a panic attack, i remember crying, hyperventilating, i was pacing back and forth trying to figure some way out of it. (And yes. Visiting him is just that bad). She started laughing, i told her that's not funny. She knows how i feel about that man. She said "Don't you feel better now that you know he's not actually coming?"
I haven't forgotten that. It's been 2 weeks, i've had enough of that prank. I wanted to prank her, to kinda get her back. I remembered her biggest fear. Clowns. She's been scared to death of clowns since she was a kid. So, i had a friend, that's over 6 feet tall, dress up in a scary looking clown suit. I told her i got a free dinner for 2 coupon for my birthday to her favorite restaurant and wanted to share it with her to bait her. We left and i had my clown in place.
The plan was to stop on the middle of this old rural road and stop the car at a specific spot. Where my friend was hiding. Everything went to plan, my friend parked his old junk car in the ditch on the side of the road. I stopped and said we need to check it out, see if they need help. While she's looking in it and looking around for the owner, i sneak back to my car. My clown runs out of an old barn and straight for us. She saw him, froze and started screaming, she ran to my car but i sped off before she could get in (I didn't abandon her, i just drove over a hill to where she couldn't see me from where the old car was and watched in my rearview mirror). She tried running with the clown chasing her, screaming for help. He caught up to her and she got on her knees and started crying. He laughed and revealed it was a joke, i drove back and started laughing with him. She told me that wasn't funny and i repeated what she told me, the "Don't you feel better" line. She screamed and yelled the whole car ride at me, that i could've "Scared her to death". I told her that's how i feel when she tells me about my uncle.

Let me aloberate on that. This was a live recording taken from The Barbican soundstage in London. Its one of those high End Gigs. Sadly there was no official Video taken from this, bar some snippits loaded up on TH-cam. It does it no favor anyway.. you just had to be there.
Honestly, i have this live on Vinyl. Its one of the best produced live record in whole last decade! Yes i was on a similar gig in Norway. Best gig ever!
