6:07 Incorrect statement. I own both steel and precious metal Daytonas...they change the curvature slightly and they change the lugs slightly. You need to look closely to see it. I believe they do this so you can't interchange the bracelets between different metals. They want the Oysterflex bracelets sticking with the gold cases, they want the steel Oyster bracelets sticking with the steel cases, and they want the platinum Oyster bracelets sticking with the platinum cases. Not surprising since they do the same thing with their GMT watches, and others. Rolex controls everything they can.
David, there is big difference in lugs between platinum daytona 116506 and for example, green face daytona 116508, i have both and the lugs are completely different, Also it differs from the steel one! The lugs are the same as on white gold 116509. Also small detail: that the clasp when its open doesnt have center polished. Thanks for nice review!

BQ watches has the normal dial Platinum Daytona for £105k so this must be around the £130k+ I was offered a Rolex Daytona Platinum (can’t remember which dial to be honest) at retail in Rolex, Knightsbridge ages go but it was too expensive. And I will never understand why so many prefer Gold in all its variations over Platinum! It's a status thing. Gold has higher status than platinum in general and that's just how history has been. Just like the drink Coke being more expensive than Pepsi because they have higher status.
Although my Daytona Zenith has risen a ton since 1997 when I bought it at 7000 Canadian...the days of these watches as investments are over...as severely overpriced timepieces. You want a great investment, buy a few 99.99% platinum coins and stash them away. Guarantee it will way outperform this watch as an investment.

The watch in platinum is twice as heavy as the already heavy stainless steel Daytona, and priced at a very steep premium for the actual amount of platinum that is used. And it does not look that much different color-wise to the steel version.

Unfortunately you can’t get them at an AD and the one with the diamond baguette is going for about U$150k on the grey market so unless you are super loaded and don’t care paying a huge markup for this watch it’s going to be an almost impossible watch to get.
Yes, I love platinum, it's my favorite metal. I'm not a fan of the Daytona (dial is too small at 27mm and hard to read with 3 cramped subdials and tiny hands) but I would buy a DD pt if I could very comfortably afford one. I own a humble Yacht-Master pt dial ref 116622 and I love its simplicity and elegance. What I like about the platinum is its blue hue under certain lighting conditions, its weight and its stealth wealth factor. Also the fact that's it's very pure at 97.5% against 75% for gold. Heavy heavy hitter.

I have been collecting watches for over 20 yrs, as we all know the market for Rolex Sports model had gone nuts. Traditionally speaking any precious metal Daytonas which are in production usually go below RRP (116506 was around £50k or less). The sad thing is, it went up as normal daytona went up more than its "normal" ratio which was 2X. The scary thing is now we are now seeing diamond dials (which usually get frown upon) even more than precious metal as it seems like is the next step as is running out of models to go up. Personally I would NOT buy anything right now. We haven't feel the full economical effects of Covid yet, sadly there will gonna be a lot of people losing their jobs and some will need to liquidate which in theory should drive down the prices of non necessities, like watches..
Is it an investment for the public though? If I was to pick one up now for 75k and they hit 100k a dealer is probably going to offer me my original 75k to make 25% for themselves! And I can’t really see a private sale being an option on a 100k watch.. but maybe I’m way off?
