  • My interview with the polymathic genius George Gilder was next level... And then he told me the ceiling skylight under which we were talking was created by his great-grandfather: Louis Comfort Tiffany. Gilder is an American investor, author, economist, and co-founder of the Discovery Institute. In this interview we discuss many things including his latest book: LIFE AFTER CAPITALISM: The Meaning of Wealth, the Future of the Economy, and the Time Theory of Money.

An intriguing autobiographical and intellectual conversational journey with George Gilder. Hopefully you can still do a "Socrates-in-the-city" evening with George, Eric!! Great interview.

Eric, I don’t know you, this is basically the first time I’ve listened to your show (simply to hear George Gilder), but good Lord man! You have an incredible ability to interrupt your guest before they finish their thoughts. You might want to take note of it.

He has to keep it moving - if you know George Gilder, he could go for hours on one topic alone and is fascinating to listen to.
Eric is trying to cover a lot in just one hour. Best you buy George's book.

Mr. Metaxas, your interviews and guests are always fruitful and edifying. Your wit and knowledge make it entertaining as well. Well done, and hope to see your channel grow and reach more and more people. Thankyou 😊

His "wit" and constant interruption got a little bit annoying. George doesn't need a translator.

"Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see."
    Arthur Schopenhauer, German genius philosopher
"The state lies in all languages of good and evil; and whatever it says, it lies-and whatever it has, it has stolen."
    Friedrich Nietzsche
"Our treasure lies in the beehive of our knowledge. We are perpetually on the way thither, being by nature winged insects and honey gatherers of the mind."
    Friedrich Nietzsche
"Men were considered "free" only so that they might be considered guilty - could be judged and punished: consequently, every act had to be considered as willed, and the origin of every act had to be considered as lying within the consciousness (and thus the most fundamental psychological deception was made the principle of psychology itself)."

If you want free market, small state capitalism with a foundation in the Bible, follow Henry George. The economy is about labour and land, not money.

It's interesting that Mr. Gilder is pro cryptocurrency. I always thought that it was based on imaginary value, but he stated the opposite; that our current economic system since coming off the gold standard has been becoming less reality- based, and crypto brings a reality- based value. I'm still not sure I agree on the part of cryptocurrency = real, and I will add that a house and it's land seems the most real currency one can own.

Is Gilder merely substituting the word 'knowledge' for the concept of the division of labour? Henry George's positive vision was based around this notion - co-operation increases productivity.

No he is not. Knowledge itself, creativity is a multiplier. If you study productivity, and Economics, you find that every good that has become a market has always gone down in relative price. The easiest way to think of it is atomic energy. There is infinite energy available as human intuition and experiment enables this.

    Revelation 13
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
