Completely disagree with you regarding “Night Driver”. That was one of the funnest of the very early Atari games. The only reason it doesn’t seem interesting on the Evercade is because it requires paddles. “Night Driver” is nearly impossible using a joystick or D-pad.

Sadly I have come to the view with the Evercade, which I love the console, but there needs to be better quality control over what is actually playable on the consoles. There are some games which play really well but many that are truly awful and should be left in the past. I think for those of us that remember the games when originally released, our glasses have somewhat rose coloured tints!

I've been back to Jimmy Connor's Tennis so many times, convinced there's a decent game in there, but if there is I'm still to find it... There's got to be some way of hitting the ball back, even if the original manual isn't giving it away! Glad I'm not the only one on Battle Lane too!

I feel like the retro community just needs to finally admit that these “bat-and-ball” type games (Pong, Breakout, etc.) need some sort of paddle/dial controller to be a worthwhile re-release. Even the otherwise brilliant Atari 50 collection for the consoles suffers from this with many of the earlier games. And the touchscreen on the PS5 is a poor substitute for a knob to turn.
On the same note, Night Driver is more fun with the Driving Controller (same as the paddle but spins freely). Without it, it’s just a waste of space.

That Night Driver game has some pretty impressive visual effects for that system at that time, but it does look like it would be frustrating to actually play. I have played the Jim Power game, and it's another game that looks impressive for its time/hardware, but I had to use a save state every few feet to make it through, and there's no special ending to earn. The paralax scrolling is impressive, but can be nauseating. There are two other gameplay styles, but they're both just as frustrating if not more so.

Evercade need to be releasing more carts in my opinion, the trickle of carts coming out quarterly is not enough given they have endless potential to release a wide range of retro games, it is leaving owners grasping at anything new which is announced, when really they have the ability to build a very strong ecosystem, no news on games for months and then announcement and then a longer wait until release is terrible for current owners. I also think if they have the ability now to be using giga carts then they should be utilising to full potential rather than 2 or 3 games, I mean the original tomb raiders for example cannot be any more than a few hundred mb each, so I don't know how much memory these carts hold but 1gb in this day and age is peanuts.

    • @Rogueonepigeon
      @Rogueonepigeon หลายเดือนก่อน

Duke nukem and worms collection is example of this, Duke could have been a single cartridge setup especially since they announced these giga carts were already in the making shortly after, but aain how much memory is a gigacart because it cannot really be that much if they only filled space for 3 of tomb raider games, 1gb max? Worms itself must be a very small mb game, they could have filled this cartridge with plenty of other games either from worms series or elsewhere, instead they opted to choose games which are easily available for cheaper on mobile and other platforms, very poor decision making, which will be looked back on as missed opportunities.

Jim Power gets easy if you have a good memory and good reaction times the Amiga version is a wee bit more forgiving but I can see why if playing now it would be easy to give up on it but back when I was a poor wee lad one or two games a year you get good at playing what you do have lol totally agree with the rest you said.

Yeah this all makes sense. One note, they included the wrong version of Jim Power. The Amiga version had balanced difficulty and the parallax was not eye numbing. That's the version to play and it's not often I will say that, but emulate that and have a way better time.

All stars tennis is amazing. I played it for hours once I got good at it. Hard at first but after a while it clicked with me, it's quality. I went out and bought Pete Sampson thy mega drive. I think the 60htz on the evercade makes it much more difficult though. I've always had a soft spot for euro club soccer. One of my most played games on the evercade. Again, once it clicks. I've somehow managed to acquire three copies on the mega drive. 😂

15 “Unplayable” games. That quite high?! This seems like a thing that Blaze should start to banish from their selection process. Regardless of the game. Perhaps they play better on other systems, or with different controllers? But if you can’t get it to work in your system good. Then I think they really shouldn’t bother with them at all. But finally that game that we shall not mention. Finally gets a reprieve from “Crazy Burger Island”. No longer tarnished! 🤔😂

Did you forget Beast Wrestler... 🤣
I think control style/labeling is often a hindrance at times:
    • Computer and arcade games tend to use joysticks.
    • Pong, Breakout and World Rally (1 & 2) would benefit from rotational analogue inputs.
    • The Intellivision uses a unique controller and the Commodores button layouts have been compromised due to keyboard control systems, so neither will feel "right" via a game pad.
    • Mega Drive controls feel odd as the A B C buttons should be in a line as opposed to the "V" formation of the equivalent X A B buttons.
    • Even NES games, you have to remember A and B swap between the game and Evercade menus, (unless you remap the B to X and A to A).
I think the SNES and PS1 games suit the pad, which is pretty good as an overall controller in fairness; I guess that's the compromise with a multi platform emulsion system. As negative as this reply sounds, I don't regret getting the VS by any means. Maybe Showcase or Hyper Mega Tech may resolve some of these mild issues officially?
