How did he not die of dehydration at the beginning of the story? “… I spent a week massaging them, and then decided to see what was on the tray…” And then he sounds surprised the soup was cold, after letting it sit their for a week.
Back when my country was a dictatorship, one metode of torture used was sitting the prisoners in cells only big enough for them to sit, with droplets of water coming through the celling and with water at the bottom. This story remind me of this.
Really gives you food for thought this one on so many levels. At one point I had to forcingly put a stop on my imagination, before the braincells completed downloading 1 week of nightmares and imprinting them to the deepest parts of my brain

Even thinking about what will happen to his car rings true to reality. The rough treatment by the police is pretty close too, but I've never been actually hit by them. It was the afternoon before Thanksgiving and my bail was set for exactly the amount I was ordered to pay... I just happen to be able to come up with the $3,000 to get out but they were 100% planning on me having to spend Thanksgiving in jail just because the dick head who sued me was friends with the judge. That's a 100% true story. The deputy sheriff who arrested me was even apologetic. But he arrested me nonetheless.

And I can tell you that where you live plays an enormous part of how the police are. I lived down south, there was so little crime that anything they could do, they went wayyy too far. I remember fighting with 3 cops because I attempted to overdose. Then I moved to NYC, where serious crimes are as common as corner stores and Ice cream trucks. I was held at gunpoint by a mugger, didn’t give him shit because I knew his gun was fake. Though on my walk home, 3 blocks from where the guy was, two cops were standing on the corner. So I approached them, and told them there’s a guy over “there” with a damn gun. Their reaction was both horrifying and nearly laughable. They simply didn’t want to be bothered. They didn’t even care. Even looked at me as if I was putting them out, that their conversation about the Yankees far superseded any gun wielding stick up asshole. What can you do? They’re all corrupt in one way or another. Too much or too little.

The guy in the story got no lawyer, wasn't charged with a crime, had a hood put on his head, got no access to communication, no shower, and left him in handcuffs indefinitely, then they conducted experiments on them. Police getting rough is one thing, especially if you resist arrest. This is something else entirely. Being arrested is nothing like this at all. You can't go to jail over a civil lawsuit. If a judgement was made, they can take a certain percentage of your paycheck, unless you need the money for living expenses and can show that. You can go to jail if you owe your city or county money from unpaid fines.

I've had that exact same thought while being arrested. Also I live in the U.S. and here sadly freedom is = to wealth. You can be arrested and held for up to and over a year. Sure you can bail out but that requires $. If your not being charged with a felony you don't get a lawyer or if you happen to scrape together the cash to bail out guess what now you don't get a lawyer regardless of the charge. Then the entire time your in jail/prison your racking up fees, to add to the exorbitant court costs you already owe. Once you're out of prison good luck getting a job with a felony. And try telling your parole officer you can't find a job so you can't pay your fines... Uh-oh back to jail / prison with you. Society doesn't care. The people with enough money to do something about it don't care. It's disgusting.

The scary part is I know a few people that have done time..... one of them told me their cell mate passed and the prison left the body there for 2 days before they moved it.

This one made my head erupt in a sharp thump. This world is more awful and bizarre then any work of fiction and I truly feel sorry for the next generations to come.
