    • @TheApp9

      I don’t think so. Trusting SP comes natural. I will never understand the ones, not trusting these people, that wanna help them. I am 48 and my mom is 80 and she would never fell into a trap like this. Always when I want to explain her new scam techniques, she laughs at me, if there is anybody who believe this or if even I got trapped.
      But the strongest argument, this was just anecdotal evidence: if there are two people calling you. One speaking bad English carrying you through an hour long process and gets you paying thousands of dollars to him (especially in gift cards) and another one, just asking you, to not pay anybody. Whom should you trust? It’s a nobrainer, even if you choose wrong, you lost no money, if SP were just pranking these people. Trusting A costs you 3.000 dollar, trusting B costs nothing. So where is this decision not a nobrainer?

      no, the original commenter has a really good point, right after they are scammed, they SHOULD be much more suspicious of 1) a stranger calling them who has their contact information for no good reason 2) they are requesting access to their computers 3) they are telling you a brand new story, without any proof to back it up, and relying on you to just believe them, it's suss af and it is ironic, and scary, suspicion should be at an all time high after being scammed and most people would be extra suspicious even if the next person had a familiar accent @@TheApp9

Im in the UK and my grandmother is 91, on average she gets 5 scam calls a day, my grandad mistakenly thought he was talking to someone who was trying to help so he entertained these people and they got some information off of him.... She knows not to tell them anything because I watch people like you, so thank you for doing what u do. That guy just admitted that he would not take a job that pays less than scamming!! This is NOT about feeding his family.

    • @Sean-hr9dy
      @Sean-hr9dy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      I hate scamming and all that, but I would like to point out that 35k rupees a month, is 483 USD a month, which is barely a third of the US minimum wage
      I don't want to promote scamming or anything like that, but telling someone who is trying to support a family (in a country where the average household size is 4.6, compared to the US's 2.6), to support their family with what is only a little more than a third the minimum wage of the US (which is low already) that this isn't about feeding his family is absurd
      Assuming a family of 4, with 2 adults, 2 young children, rent alone takes up most of that income per month, and the living expenses push the total cost per month to around 500 USD at the bare minimum (from some quick research on living expenses in India). Meaning that him saying he can't go for a 35k rupee a month job really is him saying that his family could starve to death in a year's time, depending on how many dependents he has and how much he's been able to save.
      Again, I don't support scamming, but if that's the only way you can live?
      My perspective is: the people at the top of those scamming companies who are raking in millions are just plain horrible people, complete scum, but I just can't bring myself to put complete blame on the people scamming on these calls without knowing the full picture.

      People like you, the elderly or less tech savvy in general should just know some basics, you call tech support, actual legitimate tech support is never going to call you out of the blue. Scammers like to scare people, IRS scams are common... the IRS or any government agency for that matter is NOT going to call you to get into contact with you, they will mail you at your home address if they need to contact you, they are never going to call you, nor will they ask for your social security number over the phone. And, we'll, not to make generalizations but when people with Indian accents are calling you up saying they're from Microsoft and your computer has been hacked, asking you to download applications, and pay either in gift cards of some kind or take pictures of your intimate banking details and send it to them, it's obviously a scam. Tech support is free, you contact them.. not the other way around and if you are contacting tech support, make sure it is the correct number by going to the company's website directly to make sure.

      Agreed! Anyone willing to rip off senior citizens is not a prime candidate for moral rehabilitation. There's a reason why none of these scammers take Pierogi up on his offers for work: scammy money is easy money, but honest money takes actual honest work. They're probably just listening long enough to determine if this is a better opportunity, ie more money for less work.

    I would be thrilled to see You teach one (?) of the victims You saved to collaborate in some of these calls, so they could feel what it’s like to have their power back and perhaps give this channel some extra spicy flavour.
    That doesn’t mean i’d expect to see the saved victim berating the scammer or something ( - although it’d be quite fair...), but the idea of saving the so-called mouse in the cat-mouse scheme and make them into a tougher, sharper lion(-ess)... it makes my gears turn. :)
    Love everything i’ve seen You do so far, keep up the beautiful work!

      What you said. I would also suggest that you share educational scambaiting vids (like ones by this guy or Jim Browning) videos with librarians, senior centers, and senior residential communities. That can multiply your efforts exponentially b/c they can reach entire communities. I would like to see every library, community center, and senior housing community regularly have programs to educate older folks (and their families) on how to identify & handle scammers, techniques they use, and common types of scams.
