Works best on wax sheet foundation it’s easiest to punch out the cells, I used to squash a V shape then drag the bottom cell open for superseder type QC
Really liked the ots method it’s simple easy and anyone can do it when they know the right aged eggs to use, I understand the eggs should be 36 hrs or younger for good results , I’m curious as to why you think grafting is superior tho. I like most methods of queen rearing but some are just to much muckin around , even walk away splits can give you a queen for nuc colonies , going to try my hand at grafting this year just for the experience of it and see how I go. Done correctly it isn't Only emergency response, I could probably set up a Cellbuilder and get Basically superior results with ots compared to just a strong hive.. Basically I like WELL FED Queens and it literally takes thousands upon thousands of nurse bees to do it.A grafted cell 12 hrs or less can be fed from the very beginning,whereas a 36 hr emergency larvae can't.When you ots you SHOULD do eggs not larvae.Cell Builders can feed better,if you were here I could prove it by the amount of Royal Jelly left or missing after Queen Hatches.. obviously I mean normally,I'm not saying a hive can't feed well,what I'm saying is usually not as well as Beekeeper thinks, you can see through the graft cups and know if Queen Cup got packed full..there should be sooo Much,it doesn't run out,it's supposed to be Queens first meal after Emerging..It's ALL about the Royal Jelly and then getting Mated well,along with Strong Genetics..but the Royal Jelly is deciding factor for my belief that they are superior, and done correctly have Swarm impulse,Planned cell ..not uh oh Emergency Cell..Grafting is simple,Breeders try to keep you from trying, I can make a queen in less than 30 seconds, making Queens is simple, getting them returned safely and mated the hard part

All cells Should Be full but not always are, so if I build a Cellbuilder they are,if I let a hive feed Queens they may or may not.. hardly nobody realizes nurse bees Should Be around 12 days old , you only see shaking nurse bees
I’ve got a queen that is amazing this year and I would like to capture her genetics. In your opinion what’s the best way to reproduce a queen off of her?
A normal egg is fed Royal Jelly for three days ,small amount turns into worker bee.A egg that is fed copious amounts,flooded with Royal Jelly so Larvae feeds beyond that point and develop ovaries becomes a queen.Any egg fed a lil will be worker ( or Drone if on drone comb) whereas that same egg was floated in a huge pile of Royal Jelly and they brought the cell out and turned it into a Queen cell for it all to develop and hold it all will become a Queen.Usually a hive makes a cell bigger , into a Cup,which is a place to lay egg in purposely to make a queen.This works cause it mimics big "Cup" to make Queen out of
When do you remove the frame? Do you wait for them to seal the queen cell? In how many days would the bees remove the queen cell (if a queen was still in that hive)?
You add a frame of eggs NOT eggs with larvae on it too..only eggs..they cap it on day 5 from being laid and you remove it and put in queenless split on day 10...if there's a queen they'll remove the eggs more than likely unless you had it over an excluder in a second box far enough from the queen they felt queenless...you can take eggs without notch and put over excluder and they'll draw emergency cells sometimes
I tryed it once. in an out yard, hive had swarmed and didnt requeen. I new I wouldnt be back for a while to bring one, grabed a frame from another hive and did this. they fixed the comb, and filled the cells with honey. still had to requeen them. you never can tell about bees
@@noahriding5780 yes you make them queenless and use EGGS.. don't put more than they can well feed, so a single deep could make a few no problem, don't try a pile unless you set it up with nurse bees pollen frame beside them, just like a cellbuilder...I don't use this method,I graft but I've done it back in the day and it works, everytime,guaranteed.if you get ready to try it and have questions my email is on my about page and I don't mind to help anyone.I mainly did this so new Beekeepers could EASILY make themselves Queens, you can to,it's easy 👍
Could you do that and make say 2 or 3 on that frame and go back in when they start drawing them out and just leave the nicest one for them to take care of. I am afraid to try grafting because I don’t know enough about it.
You can but remember you do this with eggs not 4 day old larvae so while in theory you can,it's more like a planned cell than a true emergency situation.. but yeah you can do that.. you should learn this it's very simple..you should also try grafting because it's very simple too, don't let it intimidate you, I guarantee you can do it first or second try,as you get time,bees,etc.. until then you can be sustainable notching...
Well maybe you should have watched the video you would have heard that I don't do this method I was merely showing a guy that asked me to how to do it maybe you should watch my other video where my cells are so fing big they wont even fit in a roller cage..

Easiest way would be walk away split..if you want to flood her genetics would need to graft or cut cells from foundation less comb

Bees can definitely throw ya a curve ball, in the end their gonna do what they want to do usually..but sometimes we can pursuade them
I bet you anything they were short on Pollen and ate the eggs for protein,I've had mini Mating Nucs do that several times

I've seen this before, always had questions about how it works out.
Wherever you do it, they'll do it... and then the bees will fix comb later

But can you produce good numbers of queens this way? Some other methods are easy to mess up...
