CIA man experiencing maximum cope
The vast majority of EV's sold in China are very very low cost vehicles. this has multiple reasons, China refines the vast vast majority of the worlds lithium to battery grade quality, so their battery prices are significantly lower, the average sales price of an EV in China is also ~31K, which Tesla's aren't priced into. For their segment, Tesla does extremely well in China.
Price of lithium has nothing to do with it that is a commodity that has a world market price. They would be fools to sell it at a lower cost. The problems like always are subsidies and lower labour costs.
@@dutch3533 Well, yes and no. Lithium prices, like any other commodity, can be manipulated. Australia and Chile are the biggest producers. The reality is, if they wanted to, they could manipulate the production, supply, and therefore, the price of lithium. Similar to what OPEC does. As far as labour costs go, yes China has an advantage, but not a massive one. And let's be honest, subsibies and tax breaks support the whole "energy transition" push, whether it be to mining, manufacture, or the ticket price.
The real reason China has advanced so rapidly is that they focus on a specific goal, and achieve it. They don't make false promises, they just make cars.

Imagine thinking you're doing something good for the planet by driving an EV

You don't believe in climate change
You believe local pollution is worse than GHG emissions that will lead to catastrophic climate change
You believe that, because EVs emit more CO2 in the extraction and manufacturing process than a normal car, their lifetime emissions are higher than that of a normal car.
Whichever of these you believe, you are wrong.

Rogan owns about 20 cars and is worth $200 million. He bought his 2017 Tesla. Do you think his loyalty can be bought even if it was a gift? I'm a car and motorcycle enthusiast with over 35 vehicles in my history. I can tell you about engines, HP ratings, 1/4 mile times and more about most performance cars as far back as the 70s and my Tesla (2nd one and current main driver) is the most fun I've ever had in a car.
TESLA makes the BEST 6 Vehicles in the WORLD.
I have never had any Chinese car yet but I want to try one.

The virtue badge for buying EVs quickly tarnishes when you watch video of manual open pit cobalt mining in the Congo exploiting workers of all ages.

LFP batteries use no cobalt, and the industry has already moved mostly towards LFP. Also, the batteries in your cellphones all use cobalt, and cobalt's used to desulfur hydrocarbon fuels.
As for Lithium, it's among the most abundant elements on the planet (low 30's iirc), with enormous sources found in the US and Canada (Tesla's already setting up supply contracts w/ a Canadian firm, I believe*, to supply their Corpus Christi refinery).
*Just checked, yeah it's Piedmont Lithium.
On the other hand, you can also thank the EV industry for pushing innovation in recycling processes, because you now have a number of fairly decent operations that are able to strip these things down to their base elements for reuse in building batteries (which also means there's a maximum amount of mining needed to be done before yearly recycling covers yearly production demands, the same cannot be said for fossil fuel burning engines, that's endless).
