Having been diamond in all seasons, and now not being able to get out of platinum in the last two, is frustrating. They give you 700 for winning, and if you lose, they take away 1500.
Plug meta is an issue, having some of the most coordinated 3 stacks getting free games with the issue you described around the 4:40 mark, I feel like I never see the “insane” lobbies anymore, it’s always me against that one insane team that I’m aware that we have to change our whole play style around because I’m aware that the other two teams will end up focusing my team out of fear of even approaching the “better” team. Also, the game is extremely punishing for playing the game correctly but at the wrong pace, you wipe too fast you have a fight before you even plug your box, the first team fighting gets wiped while fighting is rewarded a free third party by spawning on the point you’re running too, you finished wiping a team and you’re resetting? The 3rd party is coming right away because they spawn directly on the cash out. When you need to spawn directly back on a cash out because you have 40 seconds left on the clock? 200 meter spawn and 3 teams fighting over a doubled cash out and the “better” team will defend the worst team in the lobby to get a free game. There’s just so many issues I could complain about and people can always say the same thing, “get yourself in a position so that can’t happen, but unless you’re building momentum a crossed staggered boxes and constantly playing to plug and leave your box to get the next plug that momentum won’t ever be built. Especially if you’re not playing with coordinated players.
you know the rank system doesn't work by the fact that for most of the season diamond 3-2- and 1 were basically top500, even diamond 4 was top500 at the start, the distribution is just way off and the reason for that is like you mentioned, you lose too much too quickly vs gaining too little too slowly, the drops are quicker and more drastic than the rises. I've seen people including myself go from 40k down to 30k in one sitting just because of unlucky first round games. I myself dropped from 41k down to 33k simply because I couldn't for the life of me get a game without being seed 1-2 or 3 which means If I'm not hitting 1st 2nd or 3rd place (3rd place usually netting around 20-50 points) then I'm dropping 2 or more wins a match if I lose. And none of that goes to mention the insane disparity between stacks vs solo, top500 vs low plats (combined with stacks vs solo) consistent seed placement between 1-4 (even in lobbies with top500) etc etc
I was top 2k in season 2 stopped playing rank and was on and off and this season when I want to grind i get placed bronze 4 such a joke when im up againsts plats in my lobby and I hardly earn enough to climb for my time
Yeah you can't solo Q placements, apparently the placements only care about the game result, not player performances. I just did my placements with friends and win back to back to get gold 1 placement. It should only put you up against plats, maybe a diamond or two if you pick a bad time, but if you can't beat them at all or at least get a 75% win rate in placements (with friends) I'd question what you have to gain from ranked, that you wouldn't gain from silver lobbies for example.
The rank system should not change to be closer to s1 system because we would have 2 wt gamemodes with different rewards. And machmaking in ranked should not be skill based because the gameode is objective based so no matter if you are the best player in the world your rank wont be high if you dont play for the objective.
And i have seen many low rank players who had better mechanicks than me a solo q diamond player. and they stay low ranked because they play this game like its tdm and ignore the objecktive.
i exclusively solo q and im in gold, i think the rank system is fine. Only critique is no reward for killing or playing objective. It would be nice if you get the points you lose reduced based on kills/assists/dameage/objective score so that you lose less if you lose. Once you get to a place in the tourney where you will gain you dont get credit for the elims/assists/damage/obj score. It would just serve so that if you go nuclear but your team loses you dont get your RR descimated. Loss reduction could differ depending or rank
Asia region has a crazy cheating problem. Towards the end of season 4, i was getting more points from logging in everyday and finding out i played against cheaters than actually grinding in ranked matches. I swear i mustve gotten like 600 points everytime i logged in
I think the ranked system is in a mostly pretty good spot, it rewards good players who can be consistent at winning and punishes teams that aren’t. I also just like that high ranks actually take some skill to get, unlike the other seasons. although There’s definitely a problem with the matchmaking and smurfing. golds or below should never be in a ruby/diamond lobby.
remember fighting ruby players at the end of season 4, they were deranked all the way to plat. it was a terrible experience, also some of the ruby players would start a second account or using someone elses account whos in gold and start farm in the gold lobbies is just disgusting
To be honest, I think your problem is not with the system, but the player count. I was also D4 last season, and made there with friends. But I did have to beat many ruby teams to get there, I'm just lucky that I have really good game sense and often outsmarted ruby teams, even if they dwarfed my mechanical skill. By the time I got to D4 I think I was within the top 2k, so ruby obviously only made up about a 5th of diamond players by the end of the season if I had to guess, and that certainly makes getting diamond difficult, but in my opinion I don't mind it. I didn't even go for ranked before S4 because it meant so little, they basically used to let anyone into diamond, and while you could argue that ruby is supposed to be the difficult rank, having diamond be the cut off isn't bad at all imo. It also kinds of makes the gem skins and gem back grounds uniquely show something (not that I'm against bronze through plat getting lots of cosmetics too). But I will just emphasise that while ruby is the most difficult rank, diamond should still require lots of effort to aquire. Maybe we had different experiences, but I always managed to get to second round or even the final round with ruby players, unless you're getting ruby only tournaments, which I doubt because that would just be a case of very poor luck, you should be able to still make 0 or even + RS. Anyway, I don't think it's a bad system, it could just be improved by more players. Cheers.
So I usually play finals after my work for 2-3 matches or 1-2 hours & I am very hesitant to play rank exactly because of the risk to reward mentioned. On a bad day I can loose 2500 points in that period while only getting 2000 in that same time ON A GOOD DAY when I’m locked in for 2 hours of gameplay. Risk to reward is not being balance make me play quick play so much (also because in rank finals req team play & solo queue is hard)
I feel like the solution to this is just adding performance evaluation, where you can get points by just doing well in a game so if you win a tournament you get bonus points whereas if you lose first round you get less punished for it.
I've been advocating for a performance bonus for winning for a while (i.e if you win first round in every round or a lower bonus if you only get first in one)
Ranked Has been so funny. For some reason I play with the same people. and a lot of the enemies I play against end up being my teammates next game and we just talk about last game😂
I'm a solo-queue player, and leave crossplay on. Last season, I lost 5 matches in a row (5th-8th spot), and got back with 2 wins (1st spot), rank bordering on Bronze/Silver. I generally get frustrated when I can't coordinate with randoms, so I spend more time doing Powershift as my main gamemode and improve myself in the casual setting. This season, I've been lucky enough to get two 1st's and a 2nd spot in my placements and I'm hesitant to play the last one xD. Generally, I find it hard to feel the difference between Ranked and WT. Maybe in the lower ranks I got less skillful players, and how little time I spent on The Finals up until now (for context, I do a 9-5 day-job), and in WT i can pull everyone and get more or less random distribution of players, like in casual gamemodes. Hope this opinion will be of benefit to you.
Current state of ranked compared to S1/2 is pure cancer and stress, the introduction of ruby also pushes cheaters to constantly grind and make new accounts instead of reaching diamond once and being done, not only 30% of top 500 are closet cheaters but other 30+% are boosted by cheaters, but honestly who can blame them when you play a tournament, win 6 fights in a row, then get griefed or make one mistake to lose a plug/cashout setting you back hours of progress. Really had to swallow my ego not to grind for ruby skins in s4 but thank god I did and preserved my sanity.
I was diamond s1+ s2 (took a break s4, also everyone I know that use to play this game dropped it) ranked and WT are so similar, just cashout forever (both modes are equally sweaty now) also tournaments use to be 4 rounds instead of 3 so the points were way more forgiving than this system. This season I also cant seem to find people to play with, so many frustrating points now in this game 😔
I will tell you (from a top 500 player) that a lot of people are closeting in high elo. I will spectate them and just see the toggle of aimbot. I dont call them out and just report it when I see it, but it is actually shocking to see how casual they are about it.
My biggest issue is since season four the random lagging. Season 5 I had 2 qualifying games where the game lagged every like 10 seconds and ruined my teams start. (This isn’t my pc because all three of us has lagging on those games) but it feels extremely unfair to be kneecapped because the servers aren’t stable anymore and have more grinding. To put in perspective season four we all did the qualifying matches together and got silver 1 and 2. This season 2 of us got bronze 2 and one of us got silver 3. (You could argue we got worse or got matched with better players. But it doesn’t make sense because we have been playing a couple games ever day since the beginning of the season and have yet to not make top 2 (excluding 2 lagging games) and we just made it to gold.
yeah feel the same way. I think a really good implementation that they could add is by simply making it to where if you solo Q you only play against other solo Q players, but I think the negative to that would be it would make the Q time a lot longer for people that stacked and would play the same people all the time. I just don't want to play against literally the number one player or like top 500 players in the game cuz they all are always partied up. while I'm solo Qing. Very not fun :(
I wish they would hide ranks in game until the end because as soon as a ruby or diamond team is in the lobby everyone avoids their cashout and it just becomes a 3rd party sim and the ruby team always gets a free cashout…don’t get me started on the Ruby Smurfs who try to get 8th seed with their unranked buddy
I always like to have incognito mode on, it’s in the interface settings I think, it hides everyone’s ranks and really takes away that mental part of people with high ranks
@moggyplays1407 It seems like the competitive player base is split between WT and Ranked. Why bother with Ranked when it doesn’t value your time? You can win three tournaments in a row, but then lose all your progress with a single loss. Three hours of hard work wiped out in just five minutes-it’s insane. If they could find a way to integrate WT with Ranked or make Ranked more rewarding, I think the player count would improve significantly.
I gotta be honest... the rs system is good to me and when I meet people, their ranks match their skill... I just think placing Golds against Diamonds needs to be fixed. Like I have no problem getting Diamond already in S5 and I dont play much, i just win when I do play. (Hearing the whole video, I think the main problem is for anybody under diamond. I think it is pretty unfair for you to have to play top 500 people every game just to have a chance to rank up)
Its the player count, reduce the amount of rounds to two, making game faster needing less people with quicker games, easier to match people with their skill level too
there arent enough players in every region to properly balance the game unless its peak hours. every high ranking player 3 stacks, so you will rarely run into a seed 1-4 team thats not 3 stacking making you loose points more often. Sure you gain a lot if you win, but what are the odds of that?
There's only one issue with everything you said, and that's the whole "Smurfing only exists because of punishing systems" and while that makes sense to us well adjusted people, you'd be surprised how toxic and petty players can get, I know people who Solo Q in games with smurf accounts, just to clown on people and feel superior, qualifying games won't change anything is new smurf accounts sandbag on purpose, which would actually make things worse for those in those teams who're actually trying to win. This is an issue that will never disappear unless we figure out a way where one person cannot make additional accounts, which may never happen, unless we all get our chips installed, we as one. (jokes aside, I signed with Dissum) everything else I agree with and is the main reason why I play mostly WT, I dont really care about the ranked skins as most of them are ugly af (except for Ruby, those look good) and WT system allows for progression without being heavily punished.
I find solo q easier as I don’t have consistent teammates season 2 I solo queued to plat skipped season 3 and in season 4-5 I’ve been in plat it is extremely frustrating when I loose 1.7k rs and having to grind 1-3 tourneys to get back to where I was recently though I’ve been having fun 1-2 games a day I lose less and I go up. I don’t understand placements as it places me in bronze each season but climb fast to gold and plat to clarify I was plat 1 so I find it odd that id be placed low af. I love this game though and look forward to its future and hopefully fixed ranked system
Indeed a really good take, but pls share ur idea to embark. I stop playing ranked after I finished my placement at gold 4 last season. And u literally state most of the problem I had previously. The grind is real brother! keep up the W vid
you're comparing WT to ranked in the end but the thing is. your world tour progression has absolutely nothing to do with your skill level (ok it does a little.. if you are good at the game gaining the points is easier) You will get Emerald 1 in WT (as you should) just by grinding the gamemode a lot. Ranked is supposed to be hard to climb. you're supposed to fall in rank if you lose a ton of games in a row. now sure the matchmaking has been kinda bad. I don't know why there is a possibility for my friends (gold last season) to play against ruby players. like that is in no way fair to anyone. I don't personally have a huge problem with last place losing about as much as you would gain from winning the whole tournament. I just feel like maybe the amounts could be adjusted to be +-500 at max and also limit the matchmaking so that gold players only play against silver-plat players for example.
gold player here It will never be possible to have a fair ELO ranking type system in a grouped free for all. The outcome will only be "who has the longest win streak" The finals could borrow from Rocket League's tournaments. You sign up for an allotted time, and at that appointment it makes a tournament bracket, and ideally because everyone signed up you'll have closer skill gaps, because all the ruby players will be playing against each other. That means ranked is only available during specific times, BUT they could make the tournament more prestigous by having more rounds per tournament. (Like season 1 had 3 rounds + final round.) Or have everyone apologize to embark about being mad about Terminal Attack. Because that actually worked for ranking.
Sounds like a terrible idea. Locking games behind time only to get screwed will cause more frustration. One of the reason nobody liked ranked TA is it being too long, where the winning team usually decided by the first round
I do feel like a lot of this is a pretty poor assessment of the situation. Looking at kills, deaths, damage etc rather than ability to win games is a terrible way to filter skill levels! This would heavily narrow the meta into optimising for these metrics rather than actually playing effectively, and people trying to play sensibly will be punished - it also only makes certain combat roles viable for the individual. I also have no idea why you want to use these things to begin with, really, I don’t think your explanation was logically cohesive. And, it directly goes against the structure of tournaments, as it’s incentivising primary goals other than getting to the end, which makes the entire structure quite redundant. It will also make accurate placement really hard, given that with an infinite playerbase, every player will eventually deviate to being overall “average” on all tracked metrics, a property that implies that a numerical ranked score in regards to other players must be behind the scenes in this approach anyway if we want any semblance of fair matchmaking. As a corollary your idea wouldn’t help with the smurfing issue, instead of getting to low ranks by losing games they’d just do the same by letting the enemies destroy them. And your idea to cap lost rank score, is really ill-thought-out. That will just lead to extreme rank inflation! Making most ranks meaningless, and turning it into more of a grindfest for the better players as it’ll make playtime the main determiner for rank. And it’ll lead to worse matchmaking for both the reason just stated and also that people who don’t play for a short while and come back will find themselves in a drastically lower rank than they should be in. You need a mathematically balanced system for the system to maintain itself and you are suggesting to throw a huge spanner into the works. The problem you hope to solve with this is an inherent byproduct of having a tournament with knockout rounds, there isn’t a good solution to this without abolishing the tournament structure which people quite like. The current system isn’t truly harsh, it just isn’t time-balanced for gaining and losing rank which gives that impression. But it is skill-balanced.
The main issue with matchmaking in this game is the forced console v pc crossplay.. pc and console players should not be playing together... pc has such an advantage its not even funny... I do ok in console lobbies.. win some lose some... if its full of pc players we get slapped about its not even funny...
As someone who no lifed season 3 just to get the diamond lewis ,it was significantly harder to solo q and balance a job ranking s4. Its like gambling and i hate it, even with the tons of players i met both playtime and the overall ui hinders teaming up with friends. If you haven't had a stack from start you just cant quickly find the chem with those you randomly find dispite skill being involved. As a heavy main i will try my hardest to get these diamond deagles but with my pessimism/ mental breakdown over losing to 3 stacks.....its not looking good bruv
Ranked is a whole beast! I agree that the lose of RS sometimes is so punishing that it feels like ass to even consider playing - maybe it's for the best as I like the idea of quick cash > world tour > ranked being the training arc / montage of play and if you're an ultra competitive player you can start at ranked > world tour > quick cash (I imagine it as a stream which players can swim up or down through.) Great video btw!
I think everyone can agree that its so draining losing your hard earned points to an idiot who thinks he knows better than you all because he likes to play tdm in cashout
I personally disagree. I've never minded losing in any game, that kind of seems essential to a ranked game mode. Though that said I may be biased because I do have really good game sense and have outsmarted ruby players on occasion, so I don't really lose RS unless the opponent is better, and if they are then fair enough - I respect that.
I think the problem is that there aren't enough players in the finals, you'll always have issues regardless of the rank system
Having been diamond in all seasons, and now not being able to get out of platinum in the last two, is frustrating. They give you 700 for winning, and if you lose, they take away 1500.
Last season I got up to gold 3 and kept losing all down to silver 3 by mostly solo queuing, I feel you in this one😂
Fr bro 😭😭
Have you tried not losing? 👀
@@user-if9pp4vg7g Good luck, when you are playing 1v3 in some games.
I had the exact same thing got to gold 3 and back to silver 4 and I couldn’t get out of the loop
Solo q needs to be reformed, loosing 1k because you have shitty team mates is not fun at all.
I think that solo q should gain more points or lose less points than a full stacked team.

You can win three tournaments in a row, but then lose all your progress with a single loss. Three hours of hard work wiped out in just five minutes-it’s insane. If they could find a way to integrate WT with Ranked or make Ranked more rewarding, I think the player count would improve significantly.
Hey I love your cross hair settings. Would you please be able to share it?
I could make a settings video
I gotta be honest... the rs system is good to me and when I meet people, their ranks match their skill... I just think placing Golds against Diamonds needs to be fixed. Like I have no problem getting Diamond already in S5 and I dont play much, i just win when I do play. (Hearing the whole video, I think the main problem is for anybody under diamond. I think it is pretty unfair for you to have to play top 500 people every game just to have a chance to rank up)
Its the player count, reduce the amount of rounds to two, making game faster needing less people with quicker games, easier to match people with their skill level too
A matchmaking system that requires 24 people for a smaller community is the problem
This could work actually but I think it’s not a tournament at this point
Whats the current ranked player count?
@@Kaminadorr current ranked needs 24 players to start a single match since its 8 teams of 3.
@@moggyplays1407 true, only other way I can think of is getting rid of world tour sadly since it kinda splits the population in half
I think that the system should be like Splatoon 3s ranked system
there arent enough players in every region to properly balance the game unless its peak hours. every high ranking player 3 stacks, so you will rarely run into a seed 1-4 team thats not 3 stacking making you loose points more often.
(jokes aside, I signed with Dissum)
everything else I agree with and is the main reason why I play mostly WT, I dont really care about the ranked skins as most of them are ugly af (except for Ruby, those look good) and WT system allows for progression without being heavily punished.

I love this game though and look forward to its future and hopefully fixed ranked system
i got demoted from plat 12 times
I just feel like maybe the amounts could be adjusted to be +-500 at max and also limit the matchmaking so that gold players only play against silver-plat players for example.
ill stick to not ranked probably
gold player here
It will never be possible to have a fair ELO ranking type system in a grouped free for all. The outcome will only be "who has the longest win streak"
The finals could borrow from Rocket League's tournaments. (Like season 1 had 3 rounds + final round.)
Or have everyone apologize to embark about being mad about Terminal Attack. Because that actually worked for ranking.
Sounds like a terrible idea. Locking games behind time only to get screwed will cause more frustration.
One of the reason nobody liked ranked TA is it being too long, where the winning team usually decided by the first round
I hate that they don't take the performance into the points awarded/lost anymore.
Interesting take
that's why I only play wt !!
The main issue with matchmaking in this game is the forced console v pc crossplay.. pc and console players should not be playing together... pc has such an advantage its not even funny... I do ok in console lobbies.. win some lose some... if its full of pc players we get slapped about its not even funny...
The game needs more players to include console only lobbies unfortunately
As someone who no lifed season 3 just to get the diamond lewis ,it was significantly harder to solo q and balance a job ranking s4. Its like gambling and i hate it, even with the tons of players i met both playtime and the overall ui hinders teaming up with friends. If you haven't had a stack from start you just cant quickly find the chem with those you randomly find dispite skill being involved. As a heavy main i will try my hardest to get these diamond deagles but with my pessimism/ mental breakdown over losing to 3 stacks.....its not looking good bruv
Ranked is a whole beast! I agree that the lose of RS sometimes is so punishing that it feels like ass to even consider playing - maybe it's for the best as I like the idea of quick cash > world tour > ranked being the training arc / montage of play and if you're an ultra competitive player you can start at ranked > world tour > quick cash (I imagine it as a stream which players can swim up or down through.)
Great video btw!
In season 4 I once played for 10 h straight. I was plat 2 at the begining of the day and plat 3 when I finally went to sleep.
My favorite is losing a player for every single placement match as a solo Q and being punished for it and i cant leave...
Dumb ass devs...
See I always solo queue and have never once won, I'll go 18 and 2 and still be stuck with 2 potatoes
I agree, you get punished too much for losing
I think everyone can agree that its so draining losing your hard earned points to an idiot who thinks he knows better than you all because he likes to play tdm in cashout
I personally disagree. I've never minded losing in any game, that kind of seems essential to a ranked game mode. Though that said I may be biased because I do have really good game sense and have outsmarted ruby players on occasion, so I don't really lose RS unless the opponent is better, and if they are then fair enough - I respect that.
Agree
