This was my favorite beat-em-up as a kid, and still holds a place in my heart. Thank you for covering this! PS: There's a cheat for 30 continues if you hold L , R, and Select on the 2nd controller and reset the game, and release them when the title screen appears.
My grandfather used to have this arcade in his general store and I put in a ton of hours into it. I never knew it had a home release until I started looking up retro games list , and while the arcade game is superior there is something about playing beat em ups with a controller that is more satisfying to me. Another great game that had two decent home ports is Cadash here's hoping you'll get around to reviewing that one day. Love the videos man... especially the import games that never reached the states because it lets me know which games are worth the purchase...
I grew up with The Combatribes at my local bowling alley. Believe it or not, they also had that weird Qix-like puzzle game that would reveal pictures of women, but every couple of seconds, the pictures would become horrifying abominations.
I was going to start a youtube channel for those looking for pure classic games content, and less annoying wannabe youtube directors (like AVGN). Your channel fills that void for me now. I'm glad I found it. I especially like the SNES action-rpg video. You dont do redundant things and make the videos about you. You have a simple, streamlined intro. So many youtube reviewers think people are here to watch them and their shitty directing/jokes. I'm here for the game content. Accessible and to the point. Great videos. Ive found a lot of interesting games to play now through your descriptions.
One of my favs, DEFINITELY not an easy game. Since my cousin had this game, we only played it over their house. So it took us years to beat this when we were growing up. Great review
I randomly came across this on my retropi and remembered playing it back in the day in arcades. Good times! Definitely reminds me of Double Dragon. I seem to remember this being just a quarter per life as well. In a time where everything was going $.50
I never realized that this was a part of the 'Renegade' family tree. The arcade game Renegade, though basically forgotten, spawned so many related titles.
Thank You. Good Memories From My Past. Just Got A Copy From E-Bay Today.

I remember renting this as a kid, I can still picture that box sitting on the shelf at the local Video Action rental store (We didn't have Blockbuster). I'm pretty sure I rented it because it looked like a Final Fight / Double Dragon type clone, which it was. It entertained me for the weekend, then I never thought of it again until I saw this video and it all came back to me. Not a great game, but not bad either, worth the $3 rental fee back in the day :)
This is one of those more nostalgic games because I remember renting it and liking it, but didn't go past a few rentals. For a number of years I was trying to figure out which game it was. I eventually found a cart locally last year and picked it up.
In my mind I like to think that back when you started the channel you just recorded hundreds of versions of you saying "SNES DRUNK" over and over again. You just go down the list of files and plug them into every new video
Oh boy did this eat up some quarters from me and my little brother back in '90. We'd fight over who was going to be Bullova because we also had our high-top fades. Sign of the times, I guess.
Got this game at GameStop in like 2005 or 2006 for $2.99. It was awesome. Reminded me of the movie "The Warriors" which also had a game out on Xbox around that time . Good times.
i love this game, mostly on arcade but the snes had me and my brother pressing on to beat this game after days and days of trial and error and luck. good memories.
The Combatribes is one of my pet favorites from childhood, and still is today. It's a game I rented so many times from the early to late '90s... I love that it takes place in bite-sized arenas as you mentioned. It always made it feel a little more real to me as a kid. What gang takes over entire countries? Whereas here Martha Splatterhead and her gang took over parts of New York which is much more feasible. But realism aside, this game just has a charm to it that takes me back to the early days of the SNES. rvgfanatic.com/wordpress/index.php/combatribes/ If anyone wants to read more on this game, feel free to look at the link above.
I want to add that this particular game is one of the few best arcade ports on the SNES during that time, despite it looking a bit blander than it's full blown arcade cousin
Did this game ever have a different name? I definitely remember playing this in the arcade, which was 3 player. I have been trying to figure out what it was called for years now, but I don't remember this name.
0:47 how come the sprites seem to have better quality here? While in some scenes it looks more blurry. is it played on emulator or a SNES classic mini?
You know how sometimes video games will be satirically represented with exaggerated features in a show or cartoon? This is the game I think of when that happens.
Technos should have just called this Double Dragon 5 or something. It probably would have been a bigger hit. I mean Berzerker and Blitz are obviously Billy and Jimmy Lee.
I wish Return of Double Dragon would have gotten all the cutscenes and story that this game got. Also, the Japanese SFC version of this game had blood in the cutscenes.
this game had potential in the arcades. the moves against the enemies were not seen up to that point. but the bosses were quarter eaters and there were hits from them you could not avoid. and games where they make it so you automatically get hit and take damage no matter what you do just sucks. I still play this game on Mame sometimes where it doesn't matter because I have unlimited quarters.
Yo drunk, let’s get the word out on fan translators to please pick up/finish off Goemon 2,3, and 4. Gotta play and beat those marvelous gems. Keep watching vids and just so soooooo jealous of everything Japan got and we didn’t. Especially during the snes era.
double dragon in the arcade is the original side scrolling beat em up. so I have to go with that. some dude redid it and it's called double dragon reloaded. and it takes the best things from 1,2,3 and combines them into double dragon 1,2 arcade graphics.
@@AveMcree It's not closer to Final Fight than any other beat'em up with a contemporary setting. You could call Rushing Beat or Burning Fight carbon copies.
Ave Mcree what does final fight have to do with anything? Lol. I’m not bashing this game, just pointing out that it looks similar. But SOR is definitely better imo.
This was my favorite beat-em-up as a kid, and still holds a place in my heart. Thank you for covering this!

Victoria...I love you 🥰😍😘
Thumbs up for old school gamer chicks!
I love 16-bit games but... You must to love so much this one, well... for me is crap, nostalgia I guess.

I love how that guy in the cutscene is named, "Trash".
I'm convinced the arcade original was meant to be Double Dragon 3 at one point. Especially as the actual Double Dragon 3 is universally hated.
Larry, why are you everywhere?
He has to promote his channel. He may even #gasp# actually enjoy watching TH-cam videos about gaming content. I do.
Larry can be everywhere and anywhere, it’s one of his skills, he even used to comment on my shitty vids back when I used to do them, lol.
Larry, you have any proof of that or are you just talking out of your ass?
I grew up with The Combatribes at my local bowling alley. Believe it or not, they also had that weird Qix-like puzzle game that would reveal pictures of women, but every couple of seconds, the pictures would become horrifying abominations.
An elevator level in a beat ‘em up? I’m shocked!
Turtles Ninja in time have too.
What is this, fucking magic?!
Streets of Rage 2 also .
Spiderman and Venom: Separation Anxiety
super double dragon does it as well
Hearing you say 'Kunio-Kun' has got me salivating in expectation of you covering more of his games at some point.
I still love this genre, talking about Double Dragon, DD advance was amazing.
OMG Ive been trying to remember the name of this game forever! thank you for covering this! i have fond memories playing this as a child!
Love me so SNES Drunk while I’m having my Thursday morning poop
It's the best!
Apparently so do I.
lol
Yeeeeaaahhhhhh!!!
I just pooped too!
Awesome, keep it up! I love your videos.

Massive respect for Technos' body of work. Thanks for reviewing this one.
The music sounds pretty cool too. And a random observation, your voiceover audio sounds higher in the mix than usual.
Another awesome video . Love ur channel man
Definitely gonna have a great rest of my day!!! Awesome video!!
The visuals in this game still looks gorgeous to me!
I never realized that this was a part of the 'Renegade' family tree. The arcade game Renegade, though basically forgotten, spawned so many related titles.
I’m drunk with joy, it’s the newest SNESDRUNK!! Thanks man!
found your channel a few days back and love your stuff! keep it up \o/
I love this channel. Keep working hard man.
Remember playing this at the local Pizza hut. Also remember it being hard as all hell, but colorful and fun.
Omg i remember this game!! Totally forgot about it until i saw the thumbnail!! Loved this fame
3:37 You too mister drunk, you too

I adored this arcade machine because it was in a random Shoe Carnival that my mom would go to and thank god for it.
Love this game. Especially the arcade version.
You can't have a beat-em-up without an elevator stage haha!
Thanks for your work!
This game is the BOMB

Best beat em up on SNES will always be captain commando. Gotta love the wacky characters and bosses!
you should try Capcom Collection/MAME where you can use mech suits. it smokes the snes port
i love this game, mostly on arcade but the snes had me and my brother pressing on to beat this game after days and days of trial and error and luck. good memories.
There's something about the art style and color choices... makes me think of a Sega Master System game with higher resolution
One of my favorite games to play all time.

I actually really enjoyed this on MAME.... had no idea it was on SNES
I play this game at least once every year. It's a super fun beat 'em up.
A hidden gem .
Woah, that baseball stadium is definitely the old Yankee Stadium
I have the SFC version and I like this game.
Great video, yeah this game looks ok but I just can't seem to get into fighting games that have sluggish controls. Final Fight 2 is my favorite.
This game was such a blast despite the shortcomings. So vibrant, nice variety of moves.
The arcade as usual was noticably better
0:47 how come the sprites seem to have better quality here? While in some scenes it looks more blurry. is it played on emulator or a SNES classic mini?

Music in the SNES version is catchy as hell too.
frustrating for this is how the heck is there no jump to avoid attacks move?
continues are shared in super double dragon too.
This game will alwaya be worth playing! This wrestlefest and Simpsons arcade all epic!!! This one atleast made it to a platform eventually
Loved This Game Everytime U Beat A Boss U Can Be Them In The Vs Mode
Your voice sounds different/better then your other videos. New microphone prehaps?
I've been sick for two weeks
@@SNESdrunk Oh ok! I guess that means you sound good even when sick! Hope you feel better soon man
Was going to say, can tell, get well soon.
M.Blaster looks like Brocken from the World Heroes series, lol!
I wish Konami ported Vendetta for the 16 bit consoles, it´s one of the best arcade beat´em ups ever.
Played this with my brother as kids but never could find it again cause we thought it was called Combatants!
Do you have a Super NT? If so, which color?
Featuring Guile on the box art!
And a younger and slightly less cocky looking Dee Jay on his left, haha
Actually he looks more like that one kid from Street fighter III. (Don't know his name)
Technos should have just called this Double Dragon 5 or something. It probably would have been a bigger hit.
I mean Berzerker and Blitz are obviously Billy and Jimmy Lee.
Bullova could've been Bimmy
@@marlondaniels7912 true LOL
The Super Nintendo universe is infinity! Man! I'm playing this console for 25 years and still finding new games. Hows that possible?
I have been searching for YEARS to find the name of this game. Had a Japanese friend that I played the famicom version with.
great review SnesDrunk :3
I wish Return of Double Dragon would have gotten all the cutscenes and story that this game got. Also, the Japanese SFC version of this game had blood in the cutscenes.
What kind of name is Bullova?
That box art. It screams Guile.

King of Dragons and Turtles in Time are still the best beat 'em ups on the SNES
No beat em ups can beat River City Ransom!
Just the name alone is genius. Classic, amazing game!🙏👍
Agreed
Such a zen game where you learn failure and grinding lead to success. Also Acro Circus.
Streets of rage 2?
double dragon in the arcade is the original side scrolling beat em up. so I have to go with that. some dude redid it and it's called double dragon reloaded. and it takes the best things from 1,2,3 and combines them into double dragon 1,2 arcade graphics.
Would love to play this game on Xbox one. They should put the arcade version of this game in the Microsoft store.
Looks like an apex twin album. Those 3 guys all look like Richard D James
Oh wow, I forgot about this game; gotta get it
Its like strets of rage mixed with double dragon
I love the FF4 crossover with Karate Man Yang.
Hey Technos... they made super bowling!!
Was that earthquake at 25 seconds
Enforcer looks like a young Dale Gribble a la The Smoking Bandit
Love this game
Love that game
Awesome😊
I really wish that Snes final fight games had a versus Mode :/
The main characters look like Guile, Sean and Guy from Street Fighter.
I rented combatribes a lot.
Anyone else notice big similarities to Streets of Rage?? Some level design, character design. But Streets of Rage is 10x better lol.
You do know that streets of rage is carbon copy of final fight? Those are words from the director.
Pretty sure this was out in the arcade before SoR.
@@AveMcree It's not closer to Final Fight than any other beat'em up with a contemporary setting. You could call Rushing Beat or Burning Fight carbon copies.

Marlon Daniels yea, SOR came out one year after. It probably took ideas from this game for sure and improved it.
This game looks cool
Do the translated kunio series on snes please drunk.
...because every beat'em up must have an elevator level.
Hey! I like this chubby bunch of pixels!
Looks like Double Dragon on steroids. Some of the moves look like DD as well.
I didn't know you were Donkey Kong's uncle
Never played this game but that looks like it plays just like NES Double Dragon(not 3)/BattleToads n Double Dragon.
At least it has 2 players. Sounds like this SNES port has a lot of the same problems as as final fight, but it gets that most important thing right.
