6:07 You are forgetting Dowsky. He was the first 16, 1, and 0 star runner to really nail consistent BLJs and set a new standard for those categories. He used to be a WoW PvP legend back in MoP days.
Dowsky played WoW? Huh. You learn something new every day. MoP was after my time as a serious player, but it's still cool to learn about the overlap.

Really the only way this is getting beat is if new strats are found or if we start going for some insane strats from the TAS. And even then it’s unlikely because those frame perfect wall jumps and shit are just so insanely hard that even if you happen to pull one off, the chances of it being during a run where you’re doing everything else perfectly too is just so unlikely. So really it’s only down to new strats being found or somehow getting a similar run to this but shaving a few tenths off
SM64 is weird in so that every game typically just does 100% and Any%, but SM64 has importance in antiquated Any% in the form of 70, 16, and 1 star runs. Perhaps that is at least in part why it is a more popular game to speedrun. It's for sure more entertaining!

And for the first time in forever someone has 3 out of 5 of main board WRS he has 16 star only sub 7 in 1 star and WR now in 0 star, and he has WRS in other games as well.
Dowsky did it a year and a half ago; not sure forever but it does kinda feel like it lol

I myself have been playing for 20 plus years longer that suigi has even been born and he's better than me, although I mostly play and run alot of other games.
@@grandmastermario3695 nvm you're right it was 2019 when Dowsky got the 16 WR and held 3/5. I was confusing that with the date of his most recently submitted runs.

@@priestesslucy3299 Yep, people will simply change their mindset for grinding this category. Activity might drop short term, but for the level of prestige 16 star has there's no way people won't eventually get serious about taking the wr. It's just a matter of time

What takes more skill? Pulling off a speedrun of this caliber, or grinding to be #1 in the world in Melee?
Ha. It's a different thing. They both use insane muscle memory but Melee is obviously more sporadic with its PvP nature.
I'd argue melee takes more skill only because you have to master the game AND the art of competing, which is a whole separate issue.
Both are too different to compare fairly but melee would be the harder one imo as all players are constantly evolving each matchup and you have to study different play styles from top players who use the same character.
For speed running everyone kinda works together on giving tips and small ideas in the community to make runs faster, it makes for a really unique, awesome and super wholesome community of players who are super passionate about finding all the crazy stuff you can do in games.
Constantly having to adapt to different situations on the fly would probably be the main reason melee takes more “skill” but it’s still super different from speed running which is consistent but has to be frame perfect so much more, just being 3 frames off can end a speed run.
It requires two different types of humans to do either and melee is a game where if you don't have talent you will never be number 1. I feel like most speedrunning can be learner by anyone with functioning hands and a brain but melee requires a talent for reading and understanding other people that cannot be learned in the same way. There is also all the traveling you have to do for melee to get tournament xp to learn how to play against people. Overall getting to number 1 in melee is going to cost time money unique talent and travel so it probably ends up harder.
too different to say i'd say. maybe in a few years ask if #1 in melee or #1 in 70 star was harder ;)
