The reason for why gengars where weaker to psychic attacks in gen 2 onward was because of the Special Stat splitting into Special Attack and Special defense.
they "fixed" stats you are talking about from gen 1 to 2 is in gen one special was attack and defence in one stat catigory but in gen 2 and after special had 2 catagories defence and attack so pokemon in gen 1 with good special like mewtwo slowbro exeggutor alakazam and arrticuno are op as hell in gen 1
your Zapper reminds me of my FLASH witch is also from Yellow I'm currently working on trying to beat Yellow using only FLASH but since he is already on level 43 and I just got the third badge I think he'll get to level 100 before I get to the elite four if it happens I'm probably going to evolve my other pokemon but I'm going to beat the elite four using only him then I'll transfer Flash to my own copy of pokemon stadium a lotta work but well worth it

The only games in gen 1 that has shiny pokemon are Fire Red and Leaf Green
