What prevented Nestorianism from becoming a dominant religion in China is probably the landscape in which it found itself operating.
The ancient romans were polytheists, but meanwhile they had the concept of "divinity", the persians were zoroastrians and therefore monotheists.
The chinese, on the other hand, did not have the concept of a personal god, the Tao of traditional chinese religion is an impersonal cosmic providence, while Buddhism has absolutely no concept of God.
When catholic missionaries centuries later had to translate the Bible into chinese they had quite a bit of trouble, as there was no equivalent term for "God" in chinese language.

The Church of yhe East is not Nestorian. At least we should use the proper term. They were dyophysite following the theology of Theodore of Mopsuesta. A theology almost no different from today's heterodoxy.

@@biblebiteshistory The group who was able to reach China was the Church of the East. They were labelled as Nestorians after the Council of Ephesus in 431 CE for failing to condemn Nestorius but they didn't follow his theology.

I understand the academic disagreement with conflating Chruch of the East with Nestorianism and you might be right. However, the seems to be some proof of self-identification as Nestorians but of course that self-identification probably was also disputed at the time. For the purposes of this video, it is a reductionistic approach only because it is 5minutes long and the main focus is that self-identifying Christians reached China way before most people thought.
