Yeah, pasteurizing is quite an old invention. We have a local processing plant here (Finland) that has found some new way of doing that and their milk remains good for weeks. And there are still no additives (other than vitamin d, which is mandatory to my knowledge... some old ruling). Other companies milk usually have their bets before date in about two weeks max and if opened will remain good for about a week after that. Unopened, maybe two weeks. All this is of course subject to how well the cold chain has been remained. Let the milk warm up at some point and it will go sour pretty fast.

Beware: Europe is not paradise, and wherever you move, it is always hard to adjust and build a new life. Also, things to keep in mind: 1) Finns are reserved! It can be hard to make new friends. 2) The Finnish language is REALLY DIFFICULT to learn. 3) Finnish winters are dark and cold af. It can affect your mood (I personally suffer from seasonal depression, and quite a few people do). Absolutely not saying it's a bad idea to move there, but just sowing some realistic expectations :) It's good to be prepared.

The adjusting is probably the hardest part, especially if you are moving alone or don't know anyone from where you are moving too.
Also like you say, Europe is no paradise but it's much better than the US in a lot of areas and I know this in reverse as I'm European and lived in the US for 2 years and that was a major wake-up call for me because I always saw the US from how the movies showed it which reality is quite different.
We Europeans don't realize how lucky and easy we have it and it sometimes takes seeing the other side to realize that.
One thing I will say about Europeans, boy do we complain about everything lol, and I wonder if it's that complaining on why we have it so good because we are willing to stand up, protest and fight for things to be better whereas I feel in the US, people seem quite subdued by the system which is taking advantage of a lot of Americans, especially the lower and middle classes.

      A little addition:
You're required to help unless help is already there. 50 people trying to help some kid who broke a foot might cause more bad then good.
And of course you are not required to help by endangering yourself. You don't need to run into a burning building. But you need to do the bare minimum of atleast searching for help (which usually boils down to calling emergency)

Look, just as you disagreed with the boy's testimony at the bottom of the video, with your own words you have vice versa confirmed his. In your example you start well by suggesting that these are individual choices, but then you assume that in old age those who have chosen not to follow that path of wife, children, career must necessarily look back and believe that they have made wrong life choices. What transpires in my eyes is that you specifically place yourself as a coretto supporting the freedom of choice but at the same time you have prejudices against those who do not pursue the same purposes as you in their life. Let's understand, even here it is full of potential grandmothers who ask their children for a grandchild to cheer them up in old age or parents who press their children towards conformist lifestyle choices, and obviously even here the most extravagant are judged as such, but at least in general there is a tendency to accept and respect any person regardless of their lifestyle as long as this does not cause real disadvantages to others. About the milk, here in Italy we have both, the fresh in the fredge and the long term on the shelves of the grocery store, Almost ev0rybody use the fresh, you buy the long term just in case sometime, IDK you can't go to shop for some day so you buy 1L of long term over your abitual fresh 'cause the taste (and the nutritional value) are very different.

Drivers licence: Yes it is expensive and NO, it does NOT take two years. You have to take at least a given minimum of driving lessons (plus theory lessons) and the driving school has to get a slot for a driving test. But then it is up to you, how often you want to repeat this, and when you finally find out, that it is possible to learn the theory ( driving is not the most difficult thing for most). So 6 to 10 weeks should be enough (if you don't fail).

You are legally allowed to drive "slow" on the right side of the road though your vehicle has to be able to drive at 60 km/h to be allowed on the Autobahn.

Yes you have done a video but I don’t think you fully understand, in the Cheddar video it explains the lipolysis process and the addition of butyric acid thus giving the less desirable flavour, it also states that European chocolate producers use other preservatives in order to increase shelf life but which do not effect the flavour. These preservatives cannot be used in fresh milk which is homogenised, pasteurised and refrigerated only, the word fresh legally determines that the milk is fresh….not modified with anything else. I wish you well with your plans… Finland is a beautiful country, l especially loved Turku and the Baltic coast mainly because I love the writing’s of Tove Jansson . Most Finns understand English perfectly, but are shy and hesitant to speak out loud. Integrating to Finnish society can be hard, but if you socialize with people, who share your interests in work, hobbies, sports, music, politics, social issues,.. or whatever, you'll find friends easily. Most Finns like and admire Americans, so you'll be very welcome, but it'll take some time to sneak in Finnish society. Small talk is not a thing Finns are used to. Finnish summer is lovely, but winter is cold, icy, dark hell. I sincerely welcome you. Finland is by no means perfect nation. It has its flaws, but day-to-day living is laid back and people are - at least for most parts - very nice and friendly.

For instance, here in Portugal, we have Christmas holidays (2 weeks), Mardi Gras holidays (3 days), Easter holidays (10 days) and Summer holidays (roughly 2,5 months, depending on it being a final year or not). Even if the times aren't the same, every country has school holidays, at least around Christmas and in the Summer.

There is no preservative in European milk. You eithe rhave "fresh" milk which is milk that has been pasteurized (aka heated) for a short period of time or pasteurized for a lenthy period of time. The latter will allow an unopened milk to be ok to use for about a year. But once you open it, it spoils within about a week. My experience with US milk is that. even opened, it won't spoil for a much longer period of time. So either the milk is different or they add something.

Actually in Germany people r very connected to their job and employer. This is also due to the fact that companies give their trainees payed jobs (in germany its 3yrs of training in the company and a school for each individual kind of job / Police 4 years of training) and try to bind the employees with all kinds of support and keep them loyal. this loyalty leads to improvement of the efficency and product quality. So they kind of also live for their jobs - but with at least 3 weeks of payed vacation and free healthcare (what also helps the companies in the end - a healthy worker is more efficent and a sick worker who is worried all the time how to pay medical bills instead of giving 100% for his job.
Drivers License in Germany takes between 2 or 4 month (not years) with a lot of training hours with a driving teacher and costs about 2k to 3k. And u dont lose ur license for driving slow. u get a warning and after a certain amount of warnings they take the license temporarily till u passed a second test

Also companies don't care about good performance, they only try to minimize costs with the lowest salaries. Employees are seen as a burden instead of an asset. So usually students ask themselves why studing a career if many high skilled jobs are paid 18-21k €/year and low-skilled jobs are paid minimum wage (14k €/y)? The answer is that absolute dorks which cannot do anything don't ever get employed.

    Hi Gio,
In Germany if you see a stroller parked with the handlebars in your direction you're sometimes inclined to take a curious look to what's really in there. Sometimes it's empty, sometimes it's used as a shopping cart for groceries (but NO toddler/baby in there!), sometimes you'll discover a cute doggie. If there's actually a little hooman in there you might wanna know it it's a boy or a girl.
Then there are those extra-wide strollers where two kiddos would sit side-by-side or those "long vehicule"-type strollers where two or three kiddies would sit one after the other. Then you have bicycle trailers with the same function (either cargo or kiddies, 2 of those side-by-side but facing backwards) or cargobikes (cargo or 1-2 kiddies facing to the front sitting between the two front wheels or a bike with a special children's seat on the package rack behind the cyclist. I've also seen a stroller weth just 3 wheels (4th one missing) but still in use and a luxurious one with 5-spoke alloy wheels just recently... There are ones who are foldable (to better fit in the car), come with a retractable soft top, an additional rain screen AND a sun-protection umbrella. Primitive ones are foldable and also used for groceries/shopping (big pack of toilet paper!) and kids, sometimes all at once. another type is one where the smallest kid sits within and the older one would stand in front of the young one, facing his mother.

It’s the “why should I pay a decent wage, when you can earn tips to make up your pay”… mentality. It’s such a short sighted and closed minded attitude to have
UK schools don’t get 2 months off in summer (spring break). They get between 6 and 8, depending where you are. But on top of that, the average school term is 6 weeks, with 1 week off in between, 2 was for Easter, and about 2 and a half weeks for Xmas & new year. Which gives the kids roughly 3 and a half months off spread throughout the year.

In Scotland you have school all year round? Sounds rough. In Finland we have summer vacations for over two months and a lot of days off for national holidays. And two weeks for Christmas and one week in October and another week on February just to get a breather from school.

In France school is mandatory from 3 to 16 (so 13 years in total), with 118 days of holiday per year.

It's not true that school goes all year round. There are holidays at Christmas, Easter and about 6 weeks in the Summer. In total 13 weeks holiday in the UK. Normal school is 12 years and if you go to university is 3 years for a degree, 2 more for a master and another 3 or 4 for a PHD.
Education is covered by the State in some countries but in the UK, if you go to university, you'll have to pay. Loans just like in America, just not so big. About 25k Pound for a degree. Unless you have a scholarship.
It's not only roses. People come to Europe thinking that is the Eldorado , but it's not easy to start. And free healthcare is for those with a working contract or a student Visa, or a Visa of some kind. You can't come here and expect to be treated for a major health problem, like surgery, for free. They will treat you, yes, but they will charge you. You'll have to be insured.
Transportation, yes, in the big cities. Not so easy in the small villages.
Food in Europe has about 3 times less sugar and fat than the one in the UK and the US. Same brands but different compositions. To please the customers, of course. And for chocolate in the UK and US they don't use cocoa butter which is better but more expensive. They use some kind of hydrogenated fat which makes the chocolate taste like soap after some time.
Houses are very expensive. Most youngsters can't afford to leave the family house until they finish their studies and find a job.
So, people, if you are thinking of moving wherever, get full information. Not on YT but on official sites.

6:12 "When I go back to the US I'm just going to eat vegetables, and protein shakes and pill supplements" She thinks she got it, but still her american culture influences her to try to get the quicker results. Woman, forget about the protein shakes and pill supplements, buy healthy products and learn how to cook them. And more important, give to your eating time the value it deserves, don't rush it and eat smaller portions.

school year round sounds hellish, but there are a lot of good arguments against the massive summer hols thing - spread a bunch of two or three week holidays evenly over the year instead of taking three months off in the middle
it makes schooling more efficient, you don't end up having to spend the first 6 weeks reviewing what you did last term because the children have forgotten it over the summer, and school as a vector of social services is _particularily_ important for the US, a truly worrying percentage of children in the US gets the bulk of their daily calories from school breakfast and lunch under subsidised food programs, to an extent that the covid school closures were bad because now children would go hungry - so, and this is gonna sound heartless of me but until and unless there is a better social safety net, spreading the school days evenly means less outright starvation, and "just" children being a hungry. Not having enough food in your daily diet for two weeks is more managable for the body than not having enough food in your daily diet for three months.

I'm Scottish. I don't know where she got the year-round schooling. We do have school breaks lmao. Summer holidays is 6 weeks off from late June to mid-August, then we get 2 weeks off in October, 2 weeks off for Christmas and New Year, and 2 weeks off for Easter. Plus we get In-Service Days, which is when students are off, but teachers go in for training and learning about new legislation or policies. Usually these are on the Monday when the new term begins All in all, we get 12 weeks and 5 days off school throughout the year. And the last day of term before Christmas and Summer break are half days, so we finish at noon but hardly anyone shows up for those days lol x

@@CommonInternetLurker oh yeah, i was just thinking about the premise of year-round schooling (also it's worth nothing that the us has comparatively few school days per year in the global sense), which sounds Terrible(tm), but there are some pretty good research backed pedagogical reasons to move towards such a system.

I have always wondered why don't people change their own country to be safe and have the values they admire in another country. I often wonder if they bring their bad habits and bad stuff with them when they move to another country and soon that country will then change to be the same they wanted to get away from in the first place. Like Finnish people in general a quiet. So we dislike people speaking in loud voice and nearly shouting. We value the quietness and speaking in toned manner. We are not shy, we just feel it is very self centered and obnoxious behavior. I think over exaggeration is overvalued in the States - Ismo pretty much sums it up perfectly th-cam.com/video/SbXmGgJePsk/w-d-xo.html ( i personally think people who are exaggerating everything are pretty phoney

American chocolate has to survive from Alaska to New Mexico so they add things to deal with more extreme temperatures. European countries are smaller so less fluctuation in temp

The bad taste of U.S. chocolate is due to historical precedent: because of distances involved between U.S. milk producers and chocolatiers, then by the time milk arrived at the chocolate factory, it was sour already. That was well before refrigeration had become a thing. Hence the sour taste, which has persisted.
Countries with the best chocolate: Estonia (Kalev, also Maiasmokk and craft chocolatiers), Finland (Fazer et al.), Sweden (a bit too sweet for me), Belgium, Switzerland (of course); France and Germany are good, too.

You can make a driver license in Germany in 3 weeks ( it’s a “holiday driver license class “) normally you have to attend a certain amount of theoretical lessons and practical lessons .

In Switzerland people have to drive at least one year before they can attend the driving test. I think they implemented this two years ago. You don't have to take driving lessons the whole year though. You can drive around with others who have a licence (I think that's not possible in Germany).

Important side info about the "school is all around the year-thing" : Yes it is true we have school around the whole year BUT and here comes the important difference - > different HOLIDAY/VACATION system. What do I mean by that? Well from what I learned in englisch class you guys have one big summer break that's going on for almost 3 months (I'm 100% not sure about the amount of time so correct me if I remembered it wrong). To my knowledge it's normal in Europe to instead split the amount of holidays in a lot of shorter periods. That's generally the way of doing it in Europe (there could be some exceptions since I'm not an expert). Extra fact about Germany: Bc our school system is in some aspects run differently from state to state (or German,, Bundesland") the holidays can vary from Bundesland to Bundesland. So in Bavaria, the most christian religious state, they have for example Whitsun holidays(hopefully I translated it right) which we in Berlin don't have but to even the amount of time out we instead have winterferien (Ferien=holidays). Maybe to give you a better imagination of the amount of holidays we have, here's the one specific for Berlin 2022: 8 days winterferien (29th of Jan. - 5th of Feb.), 13days Osterferien/Easter holiday (11th of Apr. - 23rd of Apr.), surprisingly 1 day Pfingstferien/Whitsun holidays (7th of Jun.), 44days Sommerferien/summer holidays (7th of July - 19th of Aug.), 13 days Herbstferien/autumn holidays (24th of Oct. - 5th of Nov.), 12days Weihnachtsferien/Christmas holidays (22nd of Dec. - 2nd of Jan 2023).
Extra info: every state has Sommerferien but they start and end on slightly different dates. It's intentional planned so that there won't be a whole country traveling at the same time, using trains, driving on the autobahn etc.

Im from switzerland. In the global wealth report the average adult in switzerland has 550'000$. But i think its more important to take the median, its 230'000$. Median means 50% of the population has more than this amount of money. We have really good social benefit programs and other stuff too. What i want to say with this is in rich countrys who take good care of the citizens there are not a lot people desperat enough to do crimes. So yeah, leaving babys out of the shop or your wallet on the table when you go pee is normal.
