MUCH thanks for this video. I spent 4 years at the local School ( * BG-Tech / Balgowan High * ) ... Ummmm ... Juss sommer more than a few decades back; so I know this exact location well from many hours of train-watching. Needless to say; these-a days; activity is WAY less than was the case in those good ol' days of intense Passenger and Freight action. The last time I visited the region; the Catenary had been stolen in at least 4 different sections between Lions River and Nottingham Road on the DBN to JHB up-line; so effectively; this is now a SINGLE mainline ! Balgowan Station itself is no longer functional and serves as an infrequent passing-loop between the aforementioned Stations ... So sad ! 🤔🥺 / 🤙💫💥🚆
PS : I forgot to mention the story of the run-away Guards-Van that uncoupled at Nottingham Road; free-wheeled down the steep descent to Balgowan ( Surviving the Balgowan Horse-Shoe Curve at MAJOR speed ); to then disintegrate / explode as it hit the Station platforms .... Bringing down the Catenary in a shower of sparks and whipping wire ... Scaring the shite outta the Maintenance Crew working on the Overheads who had fortunately scurryied to safety ahead of the catastrophe ... This being so following my repeated screamed warnings ! No; I kid you not ! 💫💥
