I agree with you, these class 18E locomotives does have amazing hooters. 📣📣

There overhead power supply is 3000V DC current. There output are 2492kw (3342 hp) continuous. The class 22E and 23E electrical locomotives are operating between Johannesburg and Newcastle. They busy training drivers to facilitate the rest of the NATCOR mainline on the class 23E.

@masjim7278 south african railways have been operating trains for over hundred of years, trains are not cars or trucks, you dont have to wash them all the time, long if there engines of the locos are kept in a running condition, these locos are freight locos and some are weathered they proper workhorses for the Transnet stable!

Howard, these class 18E locomotives are by far the best sounding locomotives in SA. I can listen to them for hours.

Nigel, there was cable theft that caused the closure of mainline 2 for some time. Everything are back to normal now.

Yes You right @nigellenner8967 if it was not for the Durban Harbour there would not have been many trains on this line. i think they have to get more freight on rail and of the roads in south africa! i live in Maritzburg KZN and it a nightmare to drive to Durban, daily there accidents with all the trucks on the road!

Well said Nigel. I agree with you. I still see up to 15 trains on a day on a good run.

I agree with you. I really enjoy freight trains. Not only watching them, but realizing that there's more to just driving them. Handling them on our gradients and sharp curves is quite a challenge for any driver.

@@jacomarais1976 driving freight trains is indeed a bit of an additional challenge, I'm a freight driver in Spain and I wouldn't change it for passenger trains! It's just you and the machine: no voyagers, no tight schedules, no people complaining... However my trains are simpler, I never drive more than 2 locomotives. Those SA railway lines must be crazy demanding!

@@osasunaitor Wow, awesome to meet you. You are 100% right, especially here on the NATCOR mainline the challenges are sometimes crazy. The freight trains here on the NATCOR are our short and weights up to 5200 tons. Our coal and magnese lines are our railways heaviest trains. The Ermelo coal line runs a standard train of 200 coal wagons weighing 21800 tons and are hauled by 6X class 19E locomotives. Them our longest trains runs on the Saldana Shishen line. These monster consists of 375 magnise wagons and are hauled by 4 class 15E electrical locomotives and 3 class 43GE diesel locomotives and weights 42500 tons. They are in dandem link with a RDP controller system.

@@jacomarais1976 21800 and 42500 tons!! Jesus christ that's insane! For comparison my trains rarely get to 2000 tons haha. That's a whole new level of heavy trains. I would love to experience them one day, do you have videos on your channel?
