    The other guitarist in my old band used this with his JCM2000. His favorite setting was to crank the loudness (volume) and keep the crunch very low. Sounded KILLER.

    Far and away the best demo I’ve listened to for this this pedal. You demonstrated the wide range of tone and distortion much better than anyone else. Yes, it sounds like you can make it sound like hammered crap, but it also seems like there’s a LOT of flexibility to find cool sounds.

    I'm not a huge fuzz guy, just because I don't play a lot of music that leans to that tone. I love overdrive pedals. I was in California, they had a swollen pickle on sale, good deal so I grabbed it. I LOVE it. It made me rethink fuzz in general and want to experiment more with it, but I I just love it. Really versatile, loud, powerful very cool.

      With the Behringer SF300 you'll get Electric Wizard sound for 25 bucks! It's a clone of the Boss FZ-2 (which was already a clone of the Super Fuzz), you get the sound of Dopethrone and early albums with the "Fuzz 2" setting, for the last album he used the "boost" position on the FZ-2, you have the exact same knobs on the SF300!

    After being turned off by the Big Muff, this is the pedal that allowed me to "get" fuzz - I was that guy in the early 90s that didn't use fuzz. It's easy to tune so that your guitar doesn't disappear in a live situation, but still have a tone that is good to my tinnitus-ridden ears.

    I think this pedal could be a great pedal, if Dunlop would work on making it less harsh and grainy. With the trim cranked to get it less grainy, it's still a bit grainy. If they started from there and then you could start adjusting the pedal, that is where I think the pedal would start to sound great. So their least grainy setting should be the most grainy setting to my ears. Otherwise it has amazing tweekability. I have read so many reviews online that basically complain about this aspect of the pedal and I think it is justified. Really great review and amazing harmonic minor licks at the end.

    The clipping trimpot and scoop arent min max, the scoop changes the frequency range of the scoop and the clipping is led or transistor. You can blend the clipping but the scoop is either or. Next time you have it open leave it plugged in and as you turn the clip trimpot you can see the two LEDs next to it light up. Had mine for a few years and although I've sold a bunch of my stash I can't seem to part with it. I like to run in into a slightly overdriven fender amp with a tube screamer in front of it to tighten up the low end. Fuzz is life 🤘😎🤘

  • @mleon1958
    @mleon1958 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed that you labeled the clipping and scoop trimmers as cranked and in regard to the clip trimmer, it just goes between a smooth to less smooth sound, whatever they mean by that, because I really couldn't tell much difference. The internal scoop trimmer seemed to thin out the sound slightly at both extremes, but not between 9 and 3 o clock. It was muddy within that range to me.

      It's a good choice, keeping in mind the buffer is going to thin out some of the oversaturation.Anything 808 will let you re eq, bring up the mids, - germanium treble boosters are always good with Muffy circuits.The internal pots are useful, espec if you want to keep it open and less compressed, - The SP is often forgotten these days, but it covers a lot of ground and does several distinct things.

    nice demo that shows the range of fuzz this pedal can do. i have one and agree with your assessment re: versatility. i either own or have built just about every fuzz distortion circuit ever made and have multiple muffs and fuzz face pedals to compare it to and i can get the pickle to sound very similar to all except the fuzz face. the fuzz face is unique in it's simplicity and dynamics, but for muff tones the pickle can get you close to all the popular versions and anything in-between and extreme settings that are unique. yes, Tripps got it right with the pickle.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if the Pickle into an EQ could get more of those FF style mids?

    • @MrLivebynight
      @MrLivebynight 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leon Todd nah, it isn’t the frequency response that’s the issue, but the dynamics, and that has to do with how the FF actually works.

    • @guitphil
      @guitphil 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrLivebynight agree Paul. it has more to do with attack and compression. also most FF (depending on components and matching values) will clean up some when backing off guitar volume knob. the muff style circuit doesn't really do it. still the pickle is an awesome and versatile muff style fuzz.

    • @MrLivebynight
      @MrLivebynight 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@guitphil I know that, but my point was that it is actually the WAY that a Fuzz Face works is WHY a muff-style circuit can't clean up as well. It is the way the FF input works - unbuffered, such a low impedance that the pickups and cable and guitar pots become a part of the circuit. No muff-style fuzz can do that, because they are inherently different, and no amount of EQ can change that!

    How do you get rid of the feedback when recording? The hiss on the pedal seems pretty loud.

    Sounds better with those mids dialed back in. A lot of fuzzes disappear without mids, which is one reason I prefer them with a light crunch in the background, kinda’ like you do with an OD pedal.
    I have the Bogner Oxford (stupidly versatile pedal) and a Fulltone Octafuzz and they’re both soooooooo much fun.

      I initially bought the Octafuzz about three years ago intending to only use it for the “steel drum” Band of Gypsys “Who Knows” sound... and it did does that really well when you turn the gain down.
      When I actually used the gain, I realized “Hey, this is actually a really nice sounding fuzz.” 🤣

    I was all like 'screw this thing, I just want an op amp muff', which I do have, but I'm rethinking that now. I mean this thing has some serious versatility and tweakable as all Hell. Op amp muffs are great, but let's face it: Ehx quality isn't brilliant and I'd like something with better quality.

    Man!!! Ragdoll’s 2013 show at Rocklahoma was amazing. Not that all their shows that I’ve seen aren’t but that year for some reason was wow! Like Godzilla stomping on Japan amazing.

      I remember i couldn't find the power supply for my delay, ran a mile out to someone's camper because they said they had one and it was an amp footswitch. Ran back, straight onto stage and nearly passed out from the heat. Epic fun at that gig though! That was a really fun tour.

      Leon Todd as if the regular pre show stress isn’t enough. That sucks!

    Hi. Is this pedal similar to a big muff or the fuzz face ? It is good for misfits and ramones songs ?? Thanks

      Nuno...its more like a souped up big muff in my personal opinion...you can get pretty much any type fuzz sound you want...i use mine with some overdrive to get my filthy,doomy stoner wall of sound fuzz that I'd been searching for years...highly recommend the SP for sure!..hope this helps with your question bud.

      Oh yeah...if you're looking for more of a versatile distortion for punk music(like the ramones/misfits)... I recommend SNK pedals VHD distortion/preamp...its based off the dirty channel of the Ampeg VH-140C...Itll get you all the punk/metal and even fuzzy goodness you could ask for. www.snkpedals.com/product/vhd-distortion-preamp-black

    Doesn't swell my pickle. But VERY well produced review. You can see all the settings for every clip, and they are all back to back without any yapping in between. What's with INTERNAL pots? That is so lame.

    Fuzz in general is utter garbage,
    But as far as garbage goes, this is great garbage.
