Yep, some people are risk takers, not me… again to each his own but I would not go 100 miles out with one engine. 95% would probably agree that type of boat not designed for trips that long. But the reward was fantastic!!!

The Coast Guard just rescued 3 men in a 31’ boat that had 3 engines. Their electrical system went out. Part of being it at sea no matter what boat you have is risky for fatalities. Even more so is driving on US 19 is a much higher fatality rate.
These young men seem to be very responsible. They may very well have an Epirb and a buddy system like we use in the Tarpon Springs area. We stay within radio contact of each other keeping handhelds as well as mounted VHF radios.
I’ve used single engines for 58 years. My second engine is Sea Tow and I stay in contact with other boaters and my ultimate rescue is not of this planet.

Nice I appreciate your guess we were a bit further than that. It also depends on where you’re at. We headed out of Anna Maria and headed south West we’re probably much more south than you. Which even a couple miles north or south on the shelf can make a significant difference.

      That’s a really good burn.
I have twin Yamaha 150s. I would definetly be over 100 gallons, hold 150 but would probably have to tote fuel. JUST to be safe.
I used to run a little over 100 in NJ to get to the canyon for tuna.
We would stay over night on a trip like that.
      Takes about 4+ hours.

Again personal choice, not many people go 100 miles offshore on 2 engines let alone one. Of course other things happen, but certain boats are not designed for 100 mile round trips. Yes, a meteor can fall out of the sky and hit your head, but many risks are controllable…. And trust me I have friends who would not run 30 miles in their 20 foot center console, I would.
