Should have had a control in the test as well, maybe a section on each side that was covered by cardboard or an upside down tote. Hard to say that either really did anything based on the photos…
Might have been a good idea. I hoped that you could fast forward and backward to see a difference. Cameras never really pick up a true color that the eye sees in person anyways.
That was the most honest review I’ve seen , I’m an Iroinite guy, I tried the other product, I really didn’t see a difference either , for the price here ironite is 19$ I use both granular and liquid iron to achieve the results I want.
Going to try tonight 8/27/22. I do use Jonathan green products but I would like to use this double dark to compliment my JG program. Your thoughts. Thank you
First, this test probably should have been done on a section of lawn that was at least somewhat stressed because then the iron application would have shown more visible results. Your lawn already looked extremely green before the application, and there appeared to be virtually no change after the application. Second, since the Double Dark has 16% nitrogen (compared to 1% for Ironite), it wins, hands-down. Even if the iron effect is the same among both, the fact that you don't need to spend extra for a nitrogen application with Double Dark means that you're saving a lot of money on overall fertilizer costs.
You are getting more iron in the ironite so this statement is not 100% correct. There are times you just want iron and no added nitrogen so you are not pushing top growth. And the double dark cost more for less iron for nitrogen you may not need at application. Ironite comes in a cheaper bigger bag if you order it online from the box store
I’ve used Ironite for years. Finally tried Double Dark this year and Holy Moly! Never had s Yard so dark green. I started with a fairly healthy lawn, so maybe that was the root cause for the shocking green-up for me.
I have tried the liquid for several years and have not gotten a good result. Turns lawn brown. I need to work on my application rates. Looks really great several hours after applying at night but in the sunlight I can see were I over applied.
I take the 20% Ironite, cut it in half (or thirds) and mix with my standard fertilizer. 10% (or 6.7%) Fe product is plenty enough for dark green when added to N2 rich fertilizer.
I bought the yard mastery because it came in a 45 ib bag. No other reason. I have used Ironite in the past they both work exceptionally well. I only use it once a yr. Sometimes I don't bother.
Because the lighting is so varied I honestly can’t tell the difference between either. Nor can I tell it greened up anymore than it was originally but again, there’s too many variables in the pictures shown that it’s hard to tell anything really noticeable.
What is the difference between double dark granular vs NXT green charge 26-0-0. Now in 2024 they have a 28-0-0. Would love you to try these to see if they darken the lawn. Thank you
My issue with the ironite which I have used a couple times in the past and gotten ok results with, is the prill size is so big compared to the volume your spreading. The coverage isn't super consistent and it's annoying to spread.
I catch little late but enjoying your experiment Bro! Looking at your vid I think they both about the same. The good thing Is both WORKED!!! I’ll keep this in mind when time to get the grass darker green! 👍🇺🇸🤩
FYI, Pennington new ironite formula 1-0-0 with 9% iron, 33% sulfur and 11% calcium is a much better product to darken your lawn. Compare this to others you'll be impressed.
Make sure if you order ironite curbside, that it's dry. I ordered a bag from my local lowes curbside and when I opened it at home, it was completely wet. I went back and exchanged it. I had to look thru several bags and found one. It's what happens when their products in the garden center exposed to the elements.
Curious - did the darkening effect just last through the next mow (meaning it greened that cycle and as soon as the lawn grew the new growth returned to the original color?

@@mindyours752 honestly I didn’t really notice that much of a difference. I think the liquid might have been the slightest bit better but either one will obviously work
ironite must have been re configured as the bag I bought few months ago contained only 9.9% iron (Fe) and not 20%. It had no effect on my lawn color. I did 2 applications 5 weeks apart and no difference. Gave the rest to my neighbor who used on his back lawn at double the rate and same - nadda effect. May work for others but did not have any effect on my lawn.
I’m gonna say YardMastery.. they have micronutrients.. may not be able to detect a significant difference with the naked eye.. but it will show in multiple aps

I like Ironite because it has Sulfur(SO4) which drops your pH (acidity) that puts the Iron(Fe) & Calcium(Ca) in a usable form for the grass.

Personally I just wouldn’t buy it at all
Just spray liquid chelated iron on it. Ironite has to takin in three the roots and if your ph isn't right it won't get used
