Johnny “Shannon “ Mr McGillicuddy One day long ago I saw this guys hands on TH-cam doing some reloading I have come to enjoy how you talk your way through reloading cartridges I wish I could help you find your mojo with reloading again
When you started the 6.5 compass videos, i went and bought the same gun and followed along with you to learn how to reload. At this point, i've loaded countless rounds and various cartridges for myself and hunting buddies over the years. Like you, i've moved on to other guns, and other projects, but i've passed the gun on to my dad who recently killed a nice buck with it. Thank you for the hours of entertainment and education. I hope you stay motivated to keep sharing your reloading projects!

Hey Shannon, I don't know if you ever read these. I just wanted to stop by today and wish you a Happy 249th Birthday brother. I hope you and yours are happy and doing well. We'll always be here if you ever decide to come back, even just to hang out for a little bit. Anyway, Semper Fi and Happy Veteran's Day too Shannon, thanks for everything.
I cannot speak for other people, but I can confidently say that you had and still have a very positive influence on a large majority of us. It saddens me to think that your videos won't be part of our internet lives anymore. You brought us so much more than you can imagine. I recall the 5k subs celebration and Tactical Johnny. I recall where I was when you announced that you were taking a year off of work to do more videos. "A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that reloading used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people glance and maybe they'd be happy for a while..."
I hope this young man enjoys it as much as we all have! That's a super cool thing to do. I've had people who were very generous to me, and I hope to pay it forward soon.
I sure miss Johnny's content. I developed hunting loads for 6 different rifles in 3 different calibers. A Ruger M77 from the early 80's in 25.06, a Remington SS 700 in 25.06 from the mid 90's, a XBolt Hells Canyon Speed in 30.06, a XBolt Hells Canyon Speed in 6.5 Creedmoor, XBolt SS Stalker in 6.5 Creedmoor and a Bergara B14 Hunter in 30.06. Developed all 6 loads using your channel for guidance. I knew a little about reloading but more as an observer. Last summer was my first time reloading from start to finish all by myself. I never would have been able to have the success, especially as efficiently, without your content. Started with the 6.5's and followed your process. Then branched out into the other calibers using same process. THANK you so much. Me and my mom (77) years old killed bucks with my handloads this past year. I sure hope you FEEL lead to resume making content for us novice. If not good luck with all your other Endeavors.
That 6.5 Creedmoor is what got me into loading 6.5 Creedmoor, many years later I’ve gone from reloading just 6.5 to many different ones. Thank you Thompson Center Compass
Best TH-cam channel for reloaders! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched your .300 blackout series from a few years ago. I continue to rewatch those every couple of months.
He explained it perfectly in one of his other videos. TH-cam has become anti 2a to the point of cancellation for literally anything. Also he was just getting burned out with it. Was having a hard time coming up with content he thought was good enough to publish. So he decided to quit and leave the channel alone so that the content that is here would remain here. He understood how important these videos are to new reloaders and didn’t want the channel to get nuked over a BS video.
Welcome Back. I thought something really bad happened to you. Life and interest do change. Us watchers have learned so much from you over the years. Thank you. Please do whatever makes you happy. Just be happy!
I hope all is well with you, Shannon. I have said it before, but I wouldn't be reloading without you. It's a hobby that has brought me much enjoyment, so thank you.
Honestly i hope you keep making content. Your vids are not only very helpful as a reloader but listening to you is almost like talking to an old friend. I hope whatever you have going on makes you happy.
I'll bet the kid remembers it for the rest of his life :) I had a friend who was not only one of the first 4 "Apple" guys, but prior to that had been a for real Nuclear Physicist. Woz and Jobs had even given him one of the first 'wooden' Apple comps built in that garage all those years ago:). Anyway, before he passed away, he called me from half the country away, to tell me to come up and see him as he had something to give me. When I arrived, I instantly realized why he had moved from his California urban environment, to one of the most remote, unspoiled, and incredibly beautiful area's of the country I've ever seen, and THAT is saying something:) He'd built his house a bit up from the river (which formed the far end of his 'front yard) and which was never fished, hunted, or despoiled in anyway, by anyone I ever saw or heard of. Anyway, what he had for me was a huge sealed jar full of freshly hand loaded 6mm Remington rounds, along with probably 2 cubic feet of cases-ready for loading. He had asked me some years previously what my favorite caliber was and I had told him 6mm Rem. Turns out he also had been a huge fan of the "physics" of the 6mm Rem pretty much since it came out and he had commissioned a custom rifle from an esteemed Euro mfg in that caliber, and had directed that it be chambered to his own specifications. When he gave me the rounds, he gave me a small booklet detailing the dimensions, components, powder and projectile he had used, as well as a sheet detailing the chambering specs needed for the modification of my own rifle "to fire them efficiently"; with which directions, I complied. He also advised not to try to reload the rounds more than twice if I chose to go that route. In the end, Was it worth it? well :) I have to conscientiously keep the action cleaned and lubed but weather permitting, when I get 'serious' with my own shooting technique, it will not only 'one hole' a group of three at 212 yards (I'm a 'cold bore' guy so 5 round groups are irrelevant to me as the barrel begins to heat up noticeably at the 4th round: the '212' is the zero of my personal 'mid-trajectory' 6mm rifle targets. Further, the rounds he loaded with me in mind, not only fly remarkably true, but pack a hell of a terminal 'punch' down range (for a six anyways :) The only other modification I've made to my rifle, was the fitting of a Browning-like 'adjustable compensator' which has proved quite effective in dialing in the harmonics of my barrel with not only his ammo, but the far smaller and differently configured varmint projectile rounds I occasionally employ. As to his rifle vs mine? Well with his custom fitted stock, extended barrel length and slightly larger magazine, his rifle did throw at a slightly higher velocity. On the other hand, I'm a better shot than he was LOL. In any event, I stayed with him for some weeks reminiscing about our lives, adventures and interactions over the years, until his health took a dramatic turn for the worse. Informing me that he did NOT want me to see him die, we shook hands one last time, and then he sent me away. It's now been many years since then, still, having on several occasions since, exceeded my own 'expiration date' (through the timely heroic interventions of several fine teams of surgeons, in addition to some pure 'dumb luck' :) my genetics seem to be favorably responding to their combined efforts and it now appears that I just might last long enough to get to see if my country (and the world for that matter) get their heads out of their collective azzes and straighten up. P.S.- sorry for the lengthy post, but old men do tend to 'go off' sometimes ;)
I'm a young man and I can promise you we will have our homeland again. Don't fret, it's our challenge now and young men aren't buying what is trying to be sold to them. That's a problem for my generation and my sons. Anyways, thank you for the story. I grew up around the PNW tech scene and there's a lot of those early tech autists who have a hilariously beautiful passion for ballistics. I knew one that we debated if you could build a bike out of just bamboo. I went to his house to get some brewing supplies and in the corner is saw a bike made out of just bamboo. I asked why he never told any of us because it really was impressive work. He simply said "I proved my point. Why would I need to tell everybody?"
You were missed. You save people a ton of money, time and efforts. We feel your struggle. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for all you do. Wishing you that big Buck with your .257 Roberts.
Just got back from the deer lease tonight --took my first whitetail with my 6.5 Creedmoor TC Compass, although with a lackluster factory load. I discovered Shannon and the Compass at the same time. This weekend's hunt convinced me that I need to work up a Creedmoor load following Shannon's vids that i have watched/rewatched so often. This guy is a treasure.
You may be getting rid of the TC Compass. But the stories that have been told about it will live on in the hands of another. They were an amazing firearm and I'm extremely sad that they are no longer produced. Fairly well old TC Compass, may you bring joy to another. As much joy as it brought not only the previous owner, but the at least 134,000 of us that tuned in to watch the journey. Thanks for bringing it to us JRB and sharing the story.
You're the man. So many memories of you shooting that T/C Compass. Before starting to watch your channel, I bought that very same rifle. I even mod'd the trigger similar to what you did and swapped bolt handles, you showed me how. Please keep the content coming...
This is so awesome to be able to bless a friend with something they will cherish for the rest of their life and may be able to pass down to their kids.
I wanted to hop on here and say thank you for all the entertainment and the fun. You are 100% the reason I got into reloading. I completely understand if you are finished with youtube, it’s not the same. But if you continue i will hop on becoming a supporter and donate what I can to this channel. You’re a good man and thank you for all the knowledge and good times.
I miss your videos! I hope you're doing well. I understand why you don't want to make videos, but you're still missed. Thanks a LOT for everything you have shared so far!
Johnny, don't where else to put it but I wanted to say that I have missed your videos. Hoping this finds you well and wish you well going forward in what ever you do. I guess at this point you are done with this channel. Again best to you in whatever you do. John
I'm glad you're back, I have been re-watching a lot of the videos in your different series I'm looking forward to getting back to reloading and it's nice to see you didn't blow your face off. I'm looking forward to watching your up coming videos and if you're going to take time off hopefully you at least post something every 6 months or so, even if it's just an update video to say what's been going on, and the community knows your doing good, you are a mentor to a lot of us and we appreciate all you do. Hopefully you have an interest in the new 22 Arc that just got released it seems like an interesting cartridge.
Shannon, I just want to say thank you for all the work you have done for the hobby, and getting me personally to take the plunge into reloading. Reloading allows me to enjoy shooting from the bench more, and hunting with mil surplus using my handloads is extremely satisfying. While I was getting my undergrad I would drive to campus at 6am to avoid the Dallas rush hour traffic for my morning classes. When I didn't have homework or a project to work on I would watch your videos while waiting for my class to start. It was amazing to watch you experiment with stuff I didn't have the time or finances to play with at the time. Thank you.
I have and will always appreciate the countless hours you've spent creating wonderfully entertaining and educating content for the community. I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors. I hope you got some deer(s) and have a wonderful Holiday season.
Johnny, You have your reasons, I too have dropped out of You tube because I pretty much ran out of ideas for content, my channel was mainly about Marksmanship and the selection of components to support developing the skill in the fundamentals. also, You tube has moved to stricter content guidelines and it is difficult to navigate where the line is. So, through the grapevine, I hear that you have returned to the rat race of the work place, and that's okay. I'm not finding fault. However, this isn't just kind words I'm saying, Your Channel was and still is a Icon with the shooters, reloaders and casters, I feel it was the best that was out there as far as construction, testing and evaluation (I give you five stars) on your work that you have done. I hope that you get the inspiration to start making video content again because your content is missed throughout the shooting audience. But,, if you don't, we can still go through a huge library of great content that is on your channel. again, you were not some snob showing off super expensive equipment, or trying to sell something, or all your super expensive firearms. So peace Johnny. - Dave
Johnny, I appreciate your videos very much, I understand you wanted to take time off from making videos or give it up all together. I appreciate how you look at things and approach life. God bless you!
Johnny, it has been a pleasure watching your videos over the years. I have referenced your mk 262 series countless times. I wish you the best on your travels
I hope you read these comments. I don’t comment on videos but man, having you back made my month. Ive never heard of 243 Robert’s but I watch an hour of video on it. You’re an inspiration to a lot of reloaders. I hope you leave for good but thankfully your videos will live on.
I remember the first video with the TC. I got into reloading 6.5 creedmore because of your adventures in reloading for that TC. Truly saying good bye to a legend of this channel. I know the young man that’s is getting it will absolutely love being behind it.
Hello, I know I’m coming WAY late to the party…I actually found your channel yesterday. Well, I have never reloaded but have been kicking the idea around…your channel is informative, highly entertaining and, like me, somewhat self-deprecating. So, you may ask, “so what”…I literally spent my entire Saturday and into early Sunday morning (3:00-ish AM) before I had to pull myself away. Excellent content. After nearly 16 hours of viewing your channel, you have filled some of the gaps I still had after watching other channels. That said, I’m still nowhere near ready to start reloading but the concepts are much more clear and…I’m even more excited to start down this rabbit-hole. As a matter of clarity, i just recently started shooting again after spending the last 13 years tournament bass fishing. Meaning, I wasn’t under a rock…I was obsessed with an alternate interest. That said, had this been my deal for the last several years, I’m sure I would have found your channel and would likely have had 14 years of reloading versus having a house load of bass fishing stuff. I read somewhere that you had taken a hiatus…I fully understand the burn-out a guy feels from over-indulging…even when it’s something we have a genuine passion for…that is where I am with tournament fishing. Anyway…I’m rambling. I’m glad I found your channel. But, I’m not getting a hell of a lot done other than watching your videos for the last 16 hours…lol Keep up the outstanding content…it may be stale to you personally but for a 60 yr old newbie…it is awesome! Clearly, if there are guys like me indulging new ways to spend our time and money, there are still many more people to be reached.
Johnny, I discovered your videos shortly after I bought my Thompson Center Compass in 6.5 Creedmoor. I thought, hey cool, this guy is shooting the same gun I have, and it shoots well, so I started watching your videos. I wasnt even a hand loader at that time. Now many years later, I still love my Compass, and even have it in the same Oryx Chassis. I now load for 6.5 Creedmoor, 5.56/.223, .300 Blackout, and 9mm. Almost everything I know about loading I learned from watching you, and it all started with that Compass. It has been one of the few guns that I have had that can consistently shoot dime sized groups. And, it always seems to love the same bullets/powders etc as yours does. With Hornady brass, Hornady 140 gr BTHP, and some H4350, I have shot three shot groups as low as 0.11" inches at 100 yds, and 0.20" five shot groups. It consistently outshoots any other gun at the range when I am there, and shoots WAY above its price point. Thank you for all you do! Its awesome that you are helping a young shooter, but as long as it stays the same, I cant ever imagine selling my Compass, its my favorite gun to shoot by far!
Agreed, the only thing I really dont like about the rifle is the barrel. It shoots amazing, but with the thinner profile it heats up pretty quickly. However, it was designed as a hunting rifle, where you are only taking a few shots at a time, so I dont really find it a fault. Also, the threading on the barrel does not have much of a shoulder. I have considered getting a more purpose build long range rifle with a heavier barrel and a better shoulder on the threading, but in the end, for right now, it works great for what I do...
You sir are an awesome friend. I do stuff for others but always seem to friend those that take, and keep wanting to take. Friends like you are hard to find IMHO.
Hey Johnny, hope everything is going well. Just got done watching some of your mk262 videos again. Thanks again for all your time and work you have put into your videos.
Shannon, You did so much good for so many people with your channel. What was the trouble? Are you just sick of the fame and adulation? Hard to go outside to the supermarket only to fight through the throngs of fans and well wishers? I would suggest a fake moustache and a hat. (That's what I do, but for vastly different reasons) I hope you come back soon. And THANK YOU for everything.
Discovered your Compass/6.5 CM series when you first put them out a few years ago. Those videos got me into reloading and buying 3 TC Compass' in 6.5CM. All of them shoot better than some of my expensive custom builds. I've taken some nice deer with your Speer gold dot loads as well. Sad to see you turn the page but glad the rifle will mean a lot to someone young.
Loaded the ELD-X for a long time because I could get them to .2 MOA, but the last couple seasons every deer I have taken had cup and core separation causing a lot of meat damage. Even a mild load at 2630 muzzle velocity hitting at 300 yards grenaded completely on a quartering shot just earlier this month. Interesting you mention the cold bore impact shift, my Tikka CTR would do that ( 1.25 inch low and 1 inch left) on every cold bore shot with the ELD-X. Was trying the 130Gr. CX yesterday and though I could only get the group down to .6MOA on the initial attempts, there WAS NO COLD BORE IMPACT SHIFT. First time I loaded solid ammo - has anyone else had the same result with no cold bore shift and solid ammo on a rifle that has noticeable cold bore shift with jacketed lead? FYI - Expansion on the 130Gr CX @ 2860 muzzle velocity - The bullet lacked expansion even at 100 yards hitting a dirt berm expansion stopped almost 1/4 inch before the top relief cut on it. Next attempt will be with the Barnes LRX - being a long range bullet I hope it can expand better than the CX at lower velocities.
Appreciate all you do. I am reloading , now, because of your videos. Many people have a wealth of knowledge, but few have the ability to teach . Thank you.
Hello marine.. I hope all is well. after watching your videos last year, I decided to get back into Reloading . I really enjoy your videos and I watch them every day. I hope that somehow maybe you can come back and make one or two videos a week just to keep us all happy and amused have a great Christmas and new year
Thanks for all the videos. I found you a couple years ago when I started reloading for my 6.5 Creed. I watched everything you’ve done since then. Hope you find a new motivation to make reloading videos.
Every male role model I’ve ever had, had guns. And everyone of them has a story about a gun they “wish I’d never sold it”. I’ve vowed to never sell a gun. I supposed giving it to a young man is better than that…
To me they are just things. I appreciate their aesthetic, and there’s a few I’ll hang on to for the hunting stories attached to them, but for the most part I’m happy to buy & sell them to keep the safes from getting too cluttered.
I sold a lot of guns over the years. Never once regretted selling any of the guns I've sold. I just get better at judging if a gun I want is actually useful to me or if I'm just infatuated with it. Last thing I need is a bunch of useless trash being nothing but a dust collector.
Hey man just wanted to message you. I started reloading in January and your videos helped me a great deal. I hope your ok. And I was wanting to know where you went or If your still doing videos somewhere. I like how you do your videos and all the knowledge you give.
Very thoughtful of you to give the rifle to a young person - feels good to consolidate and focus on a select groups of toys which you enjoy most - enjoyed the video
You led my to buying my father a TC compass. It was a screaming deal of $150 after a rebate. Hes killed a half dozen deer and 3 elk with it. It shoots lights out and the trigger is pretty nice. I've loved your content
I would be so pumped to see more 6.5PRC content! I was excited to see you say you had interest in it. I bought the 110 precision in 6.5PRC. It's one heavy son of a gun though. I had ideas of hunting with it but good lord is it heavy..
It's great to see you back, Johnny. Your videos have been the background to many reloading sessions. In fact, you're the main reason I decided to start reloading in the first place. The level of detail, your willingness to show your mistakes, and most importantly your decision not to fake enthusiasm or be annoyingly cheerful like certain other reloading channels, helped me learn and grow confident in what I was doing. So thank you, and I wish you well no matter what you end up deciding to do.
Happy to see you on here again. Made my day better. 😊. Someone needs to talk to Midway USA and get this guy put on tv. There’s lots of content that would help our sport. IMO 🤷🏽♂️
I am really sad to see the TC Compass go away. You are the reason I bought one. Probably the best budget 6.5CM ever made. With TC and Smith&Wesson closing down the TC line it will become a collector item some day. So I'm never getting rid of mine. But super stoked you are wanting to continue the series on 6.5PRC. That's what I have been working on for the past year. Your opening statement about your house being over loaded with gun stuff described my place as well.
I hope you find joy in making videos again. We missed you . I personally would not be a reloader without your content. Thanks for everything!
Thank you!
I second this...I only started reloading thanks to your content very recently....
I also started reloading because of johnnys videos. I’m now have a new hobby I can obsess over. It’s kind of a problem.
I started because of the mk262 series I've literally memorized it
Shannon helped me build the baddest AR10 ever. He also helped me reload for it. Thanks Shannon

The amount of money I saved is because of JRB. The amount of money I spent is partly because of JRB as well.
Thanks! FOR WHAT YOU DO✌
Just got back from the deer lease tonight --took my first whitetail with my 6.5 Creedmoor TC Compass, although with a lackluster factory load.
John
Your 6.5 creedmoor Thompson center compass videos is what got me completely hooked to your channel. What a hell of a ride.
We all miss you, Johnny...... just say hi occasionally? Thanks for everything.
Literally my favorite reloading channel of all time.
A true treasure making videos again. I know it might be short lived so I will enjoy it while it's here.
Come back bud. We all miss you.
I can hear it in your voice Johnny…hope all is well buddy we love you
We missed you!!!!!
- Dave
Miss you brother, hope your doing well.
Johnny,
I appreciate your videos very much, I understand you wanted to take time off from making videos or give it up all together.
Life’s full of changes. I fully understand you not making videos anymore. Take care!
Hello,
I know I’m coming WAY late to the party…I actually found your channel yesterday.
But, I’m not getting a hell of a lot done other than watching your videos for the last 16 hours…lol
Keep up the outstanding content…it may be stale to you personally but for a 60 yr old newbie…it is awesome!
I have the same exact rifle too. And did the same thing on the chassis. I'm wondering later in the future will I be able to change the barrel.
What a great way to start out the week. Watching a JRB video.
Hey Johnny, hope everything is going well. Just got done watching some of your mk262 videos again. Thanks again for all your time and work you have put into your videos.
Awesome to hear you helping yet another person enjoy the shooting sports!
You sir have been an invaluable resource in my reloading journey. Thank you so much for everything you have shared!
I hope that you filled your tags.
Missed you my friend! I've been going back nine watching old episodes waiting for this day!
I keep checking back to see if there is a new JRB viddya. I hope you're doing well.
What a great rainy day it is here in Arkansas!
Loading some 5.56 and listening to Johnny’s Reloading Bench.
Way Cool 👍
Shannon, You did so much good for so many people with your channel. What was the trouble? Are you just sick of the fame and adulation? Hard to go outside to the supermarket only to fight through the throngs of fans and well wishers? I would suggest a fake moustache and a hat. (That's what I do, but for vastly different reasons) I hope you come back soon. And THANK YOU for everything.
Youve got a big following… reddit, here… I am so thankful youre still in it!
Thank you for the video!! I was very much missing your humor during the vacay.
I hope that somehow maybe you can come back and make one or two videos a week just to keep us all happy and amused have a great Christmas and new year
So glad to have you back. Really miss the live chats you use to do. Learned a lot in those chats.
Thanks for all the videos. I found you a couple years ago when I started reloading for my 6.5 Creed. I watched everything you’ve done since then. Hope you find a new motivation to make reloading videos.
I’m in college, so money is tight but I’ve been trying to get into reloading. I really find your videos helpful. Thank you.
that first minute is one of the funniest bits i've heard in a while
Every male role model I’ve ever had, had guns. And everyone of them has a story about a gun they “wish I’d never sold it”. I’ve vowed to never sell a gun. I supposed giving it to a young man is better than that…
Same, I will never sell any of mine, no trades or anything, they're mine until I die and then they'll go to the kids
To me they are just things. I appreciate their aesthetic, and there’s a few I’ll hang on to for the hunting stories attached to them, but for the most part I’m happy to buy & sell them to keep the safes from getting too cluttered.
I will sell, but only if i hate the gun, or its gathering dust and there is someone that can put it to good use
I've sold many, but do have a few that will never sell
I hope all is well , an i hope you come back soon , i would love to pick your brain about some new reloading i've gotten into
So glad your back. Don’t quit making shooting and reloading videos
Man…. We have missed your videos. So glad to see the videos.
Johnny's BACK!!! Thank God. I need more reloading videos to watch while I do my reloading.
wow your back what a great holiday gift!!!!!
Happy to see you on here again. Made my day better. 😊.
Someone needs to talk to Midway USA and get this guy put on tv. There’s lots of content that would help our sport. IMO 🤷🏽♂️
Classic JRB! Great video, hope the kid appreciates what you’ve given him!
Jonny, watching you got me into reloading. Glad to see you getting back on the range.
Thank you for all the hard work great show great advice
I am really sad to see the TC Compass go away. You are the reason I bought one. Probably the best budget 6.5CM ever made. With TC and Smith&Wesson closing down the TC line it will become a collector item some day. So I'm never getting rid of mine. But super stoked you are wanting to continue the series on 6.5PRC. That's what I have been working on for the past year.
Your opening statement about your house being over loaded with gun stuff described my place as well.
Stuff does have a tendency to breed.
Glad you here to keep us from blowing our faces off!!😊
I love the videos thank you .I have learned so much from you and this channel, again thank you!
Sure do miss you on here brother! Hope everything is well in your neck of the woods.
Thank you so much for what you do! I enjoy your videos so much, so it's good to see you back online. You've made me a much better reloader!
Glad to see this pop up
Haha, the thoughts in this video are great! I wasn't expecting the bathroom intro.
