I used to run a hilly 20 mile trial about a month before running a flat marathon course, I ran 20 mile trials of 2:09 and 2:01 and each time ran the flat course marathon in 2:33. The main advice I would offer is don't go out too fast, the race begins at 20 miles. Stop and drink every 5 miles with the last drink at 20. Nothing you drink after that will get into your system fast enough to make any difference. Good luck !!
Amazing video, some teammates and I did a 16 miler on the same route, and saw you running. We tried to catch up but you guys were moving! Keep up the great work!
That is a very good progressive increase the pace training run to prepare for a marathon. If you were doing a marathon like a flat course like Chicago you would be very prepared with that type of run. For Boston it might have been beneficial to include some downhills and rolling hills and increase the effort in the later miles. There is a good spots in Irvine you can do this. One spot you can start at the Turtle Rock Nature Center and run down RidgeLine along the freeway and do the quail trail trail behind the quail hill community center to Serrano Ridge to Bommer ridge Trail and then drop into Bommer Canyon and add some miles on the shady canyon trail If you wanted to add miles. Or you can do an out and back on the quail hill trail behind the quail hill community center and then and then up shady canyon trail back to the Turtle Rock Nature Center. There are plenty of other options in Irvine, laguna, laguna Niguel newport coast areas to do rolling hills runs to prepare for Boston. I know I need to get my legs used to the hills especially the downhills but was never as fast as you so who knows.
I'm a bit skeptical about a 2:30 marathon goal with that workout. However, you know your body best, and I'll be keeping an eye out for you to prove me wrong.
Great workout for sure but it begs the question.....What gives you the confidence to run 2:30 when the only miles you split that pace were the last few miles of this 18 mile long run?
I'll add you need to be running a lot of hills to prepare for Boston also you need to be prepared for any type of weather, cold, heat etc as the conditions are unpredictable.
one 20 miler for Boston prep on a flat course seems way under prepared. Not sure what your PR is or if you have run Boston at this pace before but 2:40 seems more possible if the down hills down destroy your legs. I be checking your result good luck
😂 For a second, when the dude got rid of his shirt, I thought he just dumped it on the street. 😂😂😂Then I remembered..these guys are being filmed as they run so there must be another person there. 😂😂😂😂
It’s all relative. Been doing this for 10 years and there’s dudes out there with 1/2 the experience making me look like a scrub. I just try to be better than yesterdays version of myself!
I’m struggling to run a mile pace of 8 min a mile for a 1.5 mile timed run. This dude runs 20 miles at a 6 min pace and looks like he ran up a flight of stairs too fast at the end with how out of breath he is. Complete madness and sheer mind blowing
Would you be opposed to doing a paid 1hr run consult? I live in HB as well. Ran the HB full. Training for LB full currently. Thanks for the consideration 🙏🏼
Alternate Title: 'Tall pale guy and short tan dude go for a run together'.
How tall is he? Just asking because I’m 6’7”
😂 Good run
@@dylan_711 6'5"
At certain times when the tall dude was further away you looked almost the same size 😢
Love the video bro! And it's so beautiful where you are.. Love from Atlanta ga❤
When I broke 2:30, I was comfrotably getting under 2 hours for 20 miles and I still found those last 6 pure pain. Good Luck!
Exactly ... he ain't cracking 2:30
Hey Elijah, awesome video! As a Canadian, I really appreciate the km/h conversions for every mile! Keep it up and good luck 🍀
It's my pleasure! Would love to make it up there one day and hit some runs!
Was going to comment the exact same thing! Beat me to it

Love the cinematics at 4:25, good running Elijah
You have been putting serious work and it's gonna pay off. Start consevative and keep strength for those famous hills and finish strong

Ayy Happy Birthday! Starting off 21 the right way!
I'm a bit skeptical about a 2:30 marathon goal with that workout. However, you know your body best, and I'll be keeping an eye out for you to prove me wrong.
Making it look easy! I think you got this.
Amazing!! Can’t wrap my head that people run that fast for that long, did a 10k today with a 5.30/km pace… it was a struggle lol
I just did my last long run of 20 miles for the Flying Pig marathon in May. Trying to get under 4 hours, seeing this pace is just absolute beast mode.
missed this long videos so much, so chill 🎉❤
Yeah man I'm well impressed with that 👏
Class
Short form content is always great, but I appreciate these longer vids
Just an OC runner prepping for my first marathon here to thank you for the inspiration and route ideas 🥰👏 you’re going to kick ass in Boston!!
Been a while since I've seen a video of yours. Looking strong and fit man 💪
Great workout for sure but it begs the question.....What gives you the confidence to run 2:30 when the only miles you split that pace were the last few miles of this 18 mile long run?
Good morning from India! Looks like the LA piers? I have run there during my visit and before Covid💕
Elijah your channel inspired me to run, thank you for the content, keep posting man! best of luck for Boston
3:32/km for cool-down! I wish I could 😂🔥👍
Nice video, excellent pace💪💪
You guys were moving!
I'll add you need to be running a lot of hills to prepare for Boston also you need to be prepared for any type of weather, cold, heat etc as the conditions are unpredictable.
What a level Elijah!! Incredible pace and preparation for Boston!!!
what are the weekley wednesday workouts?

I love your videos. Watch out Boston, Elijah is gonna smoke you! 💯
Big things Ahead!!
@@elijahorr YES SIR!! Waiting for your post-Boston celebration video! But seriously dude, your videos are a big inspiration!
Stay strong ❤

I can't even run under 4:30 km/min, and these guys just casually running under 4 mins per Km
It’s all relative. Been doing this for 10 years and there’s dudes out there with 1/2 the experience making me look like a scrub. I just try to be better than yesterdays version of myself!
Just for reference, the Marine Corp fitness test perfect score in the run is 3 miles in 18 minutes. So this is INSANITY!

What was the montage song at 4:25? Also great work you’ll dominate at Boston 💯
It's Red Iris by Heyson! Appreciate it!!
phi phi bro
I thought Zach Levet stopped making videos
Their initial 4:19/km was my fastest pace ever for a 5 km run lol
How many steps you take per minute? (Cadence)
Would you be opposed to doing a paid 1hr run consult? I live in HB as well. Ran the HB full. Training for LB full currently. Thanks for the consideration 🙏🏼
6 min pace. I would be happy if I could get under 10. I need much more running. My heart rate gets too high.
great work man, what shorts do u wear?
Pretty sure I was wearing the barbell apparel shorts on this run! But really any pair that's comfortable I'll rep
Zach levet is back! Lol
✨👟👟👟✨
Hair on point.
Been working on the flow for the better part of a year
Hey Elijah, if you don't mind me asking - Whats your fueling plan for the marathon with gels/water mid race?
I'll probably have 5 or 6 gels and around 16-20oz of electrolyte fluids most likely!
@@elijahorr Awesome, thanks man! You’re gonna crush it 💪
Now we build. Taper well E
Thanks brotha!
swag
Long videos are back
We're back in a big way
Phi phi
Yeah…that’ll do
Yessir
6 min mile man … rapid
Father and son😂
Are you 5’6 or is George 6’6 or both?
Hahaha pretty much
Long hair runner dude! Instead subscribed.
I wanna see you rip a 5k…
Boston training with no hills🤣. Leave the heart rate monitors at home when training for Boston.
You only ran a short amount of distance at your marathon goal pace.
Doubtful you'll crack 2:30.
