Assembling a Table Saw from Lidl

  • Content Notice: we're not using the table saw in a safe manner. We were quite ignorant of the safety measures and should have learned how to properly use it before using it. Thank you to the people commenting with concerns about our safety. We watched videos on how to safely operate a table saw and will do better.
    ---
As we mentioned in our previous video, we have some improvement plans for our outdoor space and to achieve those plans we decided we needed a few tools. First up: a table saw.
After a bit of research, we decided to get one from Lidl. It may be cheap, but it gets decent reviews and for the type of projects and the number of times that we'll be using it, we couldn't justify spending a whole lot of money on this. Assembly took us a little while, but it's working fine now and you'll see some of the results in upcoming videos so make sure you subscribe.

I did the same built 90% my tablesaw last year and kept it in the garage, was so tired of frustrating length build. Have been using another mitre cum table saw until now. Now, I need to fit the riving knife on it and your video is helpful to show where it has to be. The instructions are pants! And yeah the orange long thing is to use it when you have small piece of wood. Whenever you move your hands close to the cutting blade try to avoid it and use this lengthy tool so your hands are away from the blade. It is also designed to give downwards and forward pressure to get a clean cut.
    Good luck with you project

The red thing is called a push stick. Use it to push wood through the blade to keep fingers away from blade. When cutting wood always push the side between blade & fence. If you push on the outside of the blade you risk having kick back which can be dangerous

Thank you for taking the time to comment! We've had a few friends watch in shock at our lack of proper safety precautions in operating the table saw and point us to some good safety videos here on TH-cam. It's quite obvious we're complete newbies at this but we're trying. Our little outdoor kitchen is nearly finished and looking pretty decent. Lessons learned :)

I hope that you, by watching some videos on TH-cam "how to do it", will learn to handle the table saw well. I did it for a long time before using my own improvised table saw! No mistakes with this machine. I wish you the best.

Maybe consider putting A&E on standby. Well done for trying though and best look with your DIY.

      😂😂😂 Yeah, that's a fair point 😂
In our defence, we have been learning about safety since we made that video. We now realize we literally did pretty much everything wrong in that department 😳
But hey, as the saying goes "if you can't be a good example, at least be horrible warning."

Man, you haven't even commented on how unstable the guide/fense is, you can even see it move at 06:17!!! The cut isn't stable until something is done to provide a fixed guide/fense with no flex. This table, as it is, is only fit for making shelves on your smoker... 😞

Thanks! It's progressing nicely, all the table saw work is finished and without injury. Next up is the countertop finishing for which we're using epoxy resin (another fun experiment) and then just a few finishing touches. Hopefully we'll have the video up in about 2 weeks or so.

The red stick is for pushing your material past the blade. Its purpose is to protect your fingers.

How the hell are you alive ???
Don't get me wrong, you are a fun guy but you did so many things wrong it scared me as a carpenter.
Please when you buy another machinery go atleast see some videos on youtube.
    It's dangerous, man

If you read through the comments, you'll learn we've done exactly that. 🙂
The manual was seriously lacking in safety instructions though and it didn't mention what the push stick was for.

@@AtLeastWeTriedSN yes my friend but do this BEFORE.
And some details to see i'm notva smartass but i'm genuinely concerned: a friend of mine with no experience in carpentry just bought two weeks ago a tablesaw (from Lidl, imagine that 🙂). Not parkside, but Scheppach. He had a little accident because he didn't put his bladeguard right , it felt on the running blade and hit him in the belly. Nothing serios though. And because he tried to crosscut like you did he broke the fence . So seeing you i had a flashback.
      Be safe my friend.

You are definitely right, we should have done that before we started. We didn't realize all the dangers involved with how we were using it and that wasn't a smart move. And we do appreciate that people are pointing out our rather reckless safety mistakes, we will do better. Lessons learned, fortunately for us without any accidents. I'm sorry to hear your friend wasn't so lucky.
