  • Are you thinking of becoming a registered dietitian, or in the process but want to learn more about schooling, internships, and the RD exam? In this video I'm sharing my experience of going back to school to change careers and what I learned along the way, as well as helpful information to know about course requirements, dietetic internships, and studying for the RD exam.
Here are the time stamps to help you navigate this video for what you need:
    0-0:32: Intro and personal background
0:33 - Get an accredited degree in nutrition
1:52 - Start getting experience (how and why)
    2:39 - Apply to a Dietetic Internship
3:49 - Local vs. distance internships
5:24 - Where I did my internship rotations
7:43 - Studying for and taking the RD exam (lots of tips & resources here!)
Resources mentioned: RD Exam Made Easy, Chomping Down the RD Exam, Dietetics with Dana, ‪@AllAccessDietetics‬ , Jean Inman, ‪@Pocket-prep‬
I didn't state it in the video, but I currently work in private practice primarily with women trying to lose weight or manage diabetes/prediabetes, while working on my Master's degree with a focus on gut health.

This video was so helpful! I just graduated with my masters & finished my RD exam and starting up my study process for the RD exam now. Thanks!

Yes, thank you for this. I decided to get a second bachelor's in Nutrition prior to going into the internship/masters dual. I am so happy I did because I have learned exactly what I needed to pass the RD exam. One thing I wish I had known was the strong push for food service even in undergrad. We're currently running a restaurant and required to serve at fundraisers which I loath.

You're welcome. And luckily, after you graduate, there are plenty of jobs that don't require food service! That was not my thing, either.
