Someone will be fried in hell for such decissions. It should be kept as a back up, dependable, broadcast source for country. No matter of costs (negligible I believe).
This video gives an idea of the true height of this tower. FM broadcasts are next to go in Norway, starting in January 2017. The plan is that all radio broadcast services are being consolidated onto DAB. [I have never been in Norway, so I am not sure whether all radio broadcast facilities in Norway are state owned.]
I find that whenever ignorance wins it is especially sad. In this case sad for the people who won't be served with the big AM coverage area. In Canada the federal government has made huge mistakes taking down RCI Sackville NB on the Marshes and CBC powerhouse transmitters like CBA in Moncton NB. Pure ignorance is their only excuse.
Very sad. Can't unverstanden why they closed that 100 kW AM station on 630 kHz with a large coversge - during daytime as far as Scotland and during (winter) nights intop Germany
Oh no, that's sad :(
That's sad to see.
@Krellan Yes it is sad. I prefer to see towers go up- not come down.
A well constructed tower is a thing of beauty.
