- I show you, step by step how to create a Layered Vinyl Signs with Dollar Tree Items & the Silhouette Cameo!
My hope is that this tutorial will demonstrate how easy it is to get started using Silhouette Studio to design a fun summer sign! I use the free, Basic Edition of the software, so no upgrade is needed!
I walk you through how to use functions, like the Shapes/Draw tool, the Fill tool, as well as the Trace tool! It really is a very quick & easy process!

I am surprised the dollar store vinyl worked so well. I tried some in my Joy and it just bunched up as it was cutting. Love the sign.
Thank you, Dianna! Do you use a matte with the joy? I find the DT vinyl to be very staticky. Has a tendency to jump off the backer while weeding!

@@UpAllNightDIY I did use a mat with the dt vinyl. It came off the backing while cutting. Was not a good experience.😄. I don’t use a mat with smart vinyl. Happy Weekend to you!
Hi Monica, Love your bottle cap. We are both vintage. I haven't tried DT vinyl yet (I have a Cricut), but you made it look so easy to use (so cost-effective). I just might give it a whirl. My middle name is CHEAP. 😆Linda
Hiya, Linda! I can identify with your middle name 😂 the DT vinyl is ok. The only issue that I really have with it, is that it’s more staticky than the more expensive Oracal. The static causes the really small cuts to jump off the backing sheet. For something like this, I think it works well.

Do you prefer the Silhouette over the Cricut? Unfortunately, I don't have either. But that is pretty slick my friend. Have a wonderful weekend!!
Hiya, Deborah! I actually owned a cricut before I got the silhouette. I did like it, BUT, they stopped supporting my model, so I could no longer use my cricut with their software! That really pissed me off! It was a perfectly good machine that was now obsolete, destined to sit in a landfill for no valid reason!! That prompted me to buy the Silhouette Cameo! As it turns out, I find the Silhouette software far more intuitive & easy to use! I don’t know what improvements may or may not have been made to the cricut software over the past few years, so in all fairness, I couldn’t attest to current technology. However, just based on their lack of interest in the long term commitment to their customers investment & to their product, as well as the environment, I would never purchase another cricut.
