You nailed it I lived 3 years in Glasgow and after a few month you fell in love of Glasgow people. Rain becomes a everyday thing and I kissed outside activities, huge impact if you are coming from Mediterranean countries. But it is a city that easily makes you feel at home

I moved to Glasgow after 20 years of living in Edinburgh. I wish I'd moved here sooner, amazing city. So glad I moved before lockdown as the green spaces all over the city saved my sanity.

Clouds usually hang really low, and I spent my first 3 months there not seeing my shadow in the street. "windy and rainy" don't make justice to Glasgow's climate, and "bad weather" is an understatement.

I am amazed that Glasgow has such a small population yet everywhere you go on this planet there's someone from there asking you "how yae dae'in, and when you say "pardon?" or "im good" its usually follwed by "aye, nae bothur"

@Expo Scotland I was raised in Carnwadric then Pollok, when I was 17 I was gone, off to London and now I'm settled in Brisbane Australia.
I think that when you have been away for years you tend to filter out the shite times and remember the good memories like the guys going fishing at Balloch and even catching perch in the Barhead dams was a good time. I would never go back though, I love the climate here.
If you don't mind me asking where abouts do you live?

Just use Google maps and the public transport issues vanish. Buses can be later than advertised but they are numerous so don't wait that long. The subway is a single line circle. The train links across the city can also be integrated with ease via Google maps. Yes rain is an issue but that's Scotland all over. And NHS waiting times in Glasgow are better than most of the UK. The video had to reach a lot to get negative things to say.

There are many parts of the city itself that it's hard to get around without a car. The southside has very few train connections, and it's impossible to get from the west end to say Paisley on public transport without going back on yourself and through the centre.
Not to mention the frequent delays and cancellations. In comparison to many other European cities, it's not a very good provision, unfortunately.

This would be much better with a Glaswegian Narrator, when an Englishman tries to tell you about a City Of Cutlure & European Culture Capitol. Then this is just a mere pinch what Glasgow is really like from the West End where most Students are up Byres Road. It's a vibrant young city with the best honest locals that will take you to where your going rather than explaining it,it's restaurants to Clubs & Pubs are the best in the world ( why most people that live there never leave it's that good being such a young city. The Museums to Charles Rennie Mackintosh Art College to The Main Museum in Kelvinhall to The Burrell Collection and for the Accomadation it's where you want to be as there are many places that are so plush & cheaply run to Taxis or Local Trains & the Clockwork Orange Underground. It's a city that's been re-vamped in every single area from east end to west end all new built homes to the whole town centre has been re-built costing billions as there is no other City like Glasgow now as it's like a new coin and very impressive indeed why your better going for a few weeks to sample the city before buying a beautiful home, there are 24 hour eatery's to bistros being a very cosmopolitan city and just reaps good places to see and get involved in. Glasgow for me was home for a short 17 years until family sadly passed away and got a better place not far from the city just 2- hours away as I always love seeing old friends and relatives that now everyone has cars to get you around for a great family Indian which it's famous for with so many muti- cultural food outlets and great atmosphere to go with it ,it's the main hub to go from to other places and towns up north but your never bored in the CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS.
Ask anyone for directions and they will happily take you there ❤️❤️❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Having lived in London, Berlin, and Glasgow, I have to say I liked Glasgow the least, unfortunately. I didn't find the people more or less friendly than other parts of the UK on balance (although Nottingham probably has the friendliest overall). A major pro was the air quality though.
The main cons I found were:
Public transport is quite badly connected outside of the centre, and there's an abundance of massive roads, which makes walking longer distances difficult.
There's not as much going on culturally as other major cities, and lots of the socialising revolves around drinking.
It's not particularly cosmopolitan, and there was less of a culture of going out after work, so it's harder to meet people that way (this could be true of a number of places though, so it isn't unique to Glasgow).
And most crucially, the weather was exceedingly poor. People often complain about London weather, but it's much milder and drier than Glasgow.

    • @threesixnine369six
      @threesixnine369six 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Lol you can’t compare Glasgow to London or Berlin. Both are quite bigger than Glasgow, both are capital cities, both attract more investment and more people, and both are more recognisable globally.
Glasgow is to be compared to other similarly sized British or European cities. I found it to be friendlier than other big cities in Britain, and it’s not just friendliness, but the city has a very strong personality and great humour. It doesn’t lack when it comes to cultural activity, as it’s increasingly cosmopolitan which is also reflected in the growing food scene, and the west end and the south side are buzzing, there is a growing population of young people, many of them students, many who end up staying, many of them from other British cities, smaller places in Scotland, or from all over the world. The nightlife is equally diverse, from your live music pubs, to metal, queer nights, techno and anything else a big city has. Going out after work shouldn’t be a culture but an option, since many people would rather just chill at home or with their families after a day of work, instead of drinking with the workmates.
On the other hand, Glasgow is clearly a city that has suffered post de-industrialisation, it’s sadly located in a remote corner of both Britain and Europe, and still lacks the care and investment it needs, whether it’s from the GCC, Holyrood or Westminster. A lot of aspects and areas of the city and metro area are neglected and are quite depressing. The transport can be chaotic and unreliable and the urban layout is very much a legacy of the car-centric planning era, with big roads and motorways cutting through the city, and while not every single suburb can be reached by train and many people need their cars, greater Glasgow still has the largest amount of train lines and stations of any major British city outside of London, and yes, it’s not perfect, far from it, but in terms of train service density, it’s something that places like Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham are dreaming about. Other than that, the buses are a bit shit, and the subway loop is quite limited.
The worst thing about Glasgow though is the weather.
I would definitely take Berlin over Glasgow, and would probably take London over Glasgow as well if I had a major career or cultural interest that would require me to go down south, but I wouldn’t really pick any other British cities over Glasgow, not at the moment. I’ve lived in and visited many similarly sized cities in Europe and I can say the thing that I miss the most and is something that Glasgow definitely doesn’t have is the top quality urban design, biking and public transportation in the Netherlands.

We all have different worldview lens but I find London rather challenging. Once upon a time it was a good place to live but not now. I have fond memories but now I can't cope with more than two days. Then I place Berlin and Glasgow jointly , I like them for different reasons but I prefer where I live now which is neither the UK or Germany. I no longer like cities.
