The horns thing with Gene Simmons is extra funny when you know that his argument is that he used the horns in the artwork for Love Gun--which was an original work done by someone the fuck else.
I remember Skinny Puppy being very mad when they found out their music was being used for torture in that place. Love that band though, I just saw the hometown show of their final tour last weekend
I’m going to be picky and point out that both black metal and Viking metal are from Sweden because both were pioneered by the same artist (Bathory/Quarthon). Second Wave BM was Norway (Mayhem, Darkthrone, Immortal, Burzum, etc).
without the so called second wave of black metal we wouldn't have black metal as a distinct sound, though. Before the norwegian bans, black metal was just primitive satanic thrash - and that includes bathoy.
It's worth mentioning with the metal horns one that there's a much lesser known band called Coven who also claim to have created the metal horns. Supposedly the lead singer was in the occult, and that was their symbol before any band used it, although a lot of this is just conjecture.
Actually there is a photo of them doing it in the insert of their 1969 album "witchcraft destroys minds & reaps souls". Here is a link to the picture : decibelmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/covengatefold-572x385.jpg
I remember reading an article in metal hammer about a band called Coven(iirc) and the lead claimed to have done the devil symbol first and it was a witch thing that got her ostracised from other witches because she did it publicly.
Two facts about "The Black Album": 1. It has a real name, it's called "Metallica" 2. When Metallica last re-released that album, most of the proceeds went to a charity helping victims of a German flooding catastrophe.
Regarding the Guantanamo Bay tortures, Israel started doing that to Hamas terrorists who got caught, but instead of metal ot was a children show theme song, the same one over and over and over again lol The show in question is called "Menny The Sprinkler Man". Menny the sprinkler man himself said in an interview "I tortured so many parents throughout the years with that song, but never imagined it's gonna be used to torture Hamas terrorists" XD
6:47 “Sweden is Viking" Um, actually... Bathory is considered the first viking metal band (from Sweden, yes), but most of the early viking metal bands were from Norway. Later, with bands like Amon Amarth, there was a Swedish trend. The majority are now both Norwegian or Swedish, but really they are from all over Europe, and I think even an Australian band or two.
Yeah, I was gonna mention that. Also there's a song called "Rattlehead" on Megadeth's first album, "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good". That was always one of my favorite Megadeth songs, and the 1st one I ever learned to play (well, the main riff at least; never really got good enough to play the solo sections 😠 ).
I did, but if I'm honest I only know that because I was the type of kid to find a new interest and research it on Wikipedia. I couldn't name you 5 Iron Maiden songs and I've never come into contact with them enough to know their mascot's name.
Coming from an Italian family, the horns is an old symbol that goes way back, giving credence to the Dio-grandma story. Gene Simmons is always a businessman first, so it's not unreasonable to think he tried to make it his own to grow the brand
Amy marrying her therapist (if true!) wouldn't be a HIPAA violation, because that covers doctor-patient confidentiality. It COULD be a hippocratic oath violation, which is a set of general ethics but doesn't cover doctor-patient power dynamics. Despite their similar sounding names, the two aren't related.
Man, you guys are young. These questions are common knowledge for people my age. Then again, I could probably not answer any questions about the current bands you listen to.
Your devil horns question, gave me an idea for a horror movie. It’s metal but is a mix of it follows, trick or treat, Jennifer’s body and disneys the big green. Different people going to different concerts and not following proper concert behavior. So dying off, one by one, possible band mascots seeming very real depending on what concert they’re at and which bands agree to be in the movie. Ears bleeding, violent drumstick usage, and pyrotechnics all ensue. But by the end maybe they were all in the same band originally or pissed off the wrong satanic band and had a curse on them. I’d definitely watch
5:55 you guys haven’t watched the animated film Yellow Submarine by The Beatles. I’m not saying it was them, just saying it came out in 1968, so it had to be a thing. And no, I haven’t watched it long time ago and just remembering it wrong, I watched it a month ago and it struck me, because I thought Dio too. Then again, Ronnie Dio’s career goes all the way back in the late 50s, though not nearly as big at that point.
Dio started the devil horns when he was in Black Sabbath as his signature hand gesture because Ozzy did the peace sign. His grandmother actually did the gesture to anyone who gave them a dirty look, it's to ward away the evil eye.
Fact check: Geezer Butler recently proved he was the creator of the metal horns, through a Black Sabbath band picture, taken way before Dio joined. Geezer later gave Dio permission to use the symbol years later when he joined the band. He then made up the "grandmother" story.
Not through yet but at number 4, 4/4. Another trivia about Jonathans Davis' mic stand, designed by HR Giger - the man that designed Alien/Xenomorphs and the architecture of the alien derelict vessel. Let's see how many I get right at the end 🤣. 9/10 at the end. Did not get Amy Lee. And I admit, My Checmical Romance was a complete guess and the Def Leppard one was mostly "what's most likely to have happened" sort of guess. Pat myelf on the back, not as terribad as I thought I was gonna be 🤣.
Actually way more gnarly, Rick Allens (def leppard drummer) arm got tangled in the seatbelt somehow, therefore Rick himself got ejected out of the car and his arm stayed in it
Common misconception about the metal horns. Coven was the first band in rock to use the metal horns. Check the back cover of their 1969 record for Witchcraft destroys minds, then look up when RJD started doing it. 🤘
It would be cool to find out if the Rick Allen called up the drummer of ghost in side to give him some supportive advice, considering they were in a similar accident and both probably thought they'd never play the drums again.
Eddie the head, Vic Rattlehead and Henry are pretty much as iconic as band "mascots" go. Priest never really had a mascot other than that cross thingy.
Idk why this video reminded me of this story but it did. I wasn't there for this but I heard about it from a large group of friends who witnessed it. I had a friend in high school who was a huge fan of Korn and had the most ridiculous crush on Amy Lee. Like if he wasn't talking about Amy Lee he was talking about Korn. When we were 15 or 16, there was a huge event nearby that had like 20 or 30 bands doing signings and selling merch and stuff and both Korn and Amy Lee were there. My buddy was so excited that he was practically wetting himself in line but when he got to the front of the line, the frontman for another band (I won't say who cause I can't prove it and don't want to get sued) stuck his foot out and tripped my friend who was both very short and acting like an excited puppy. My friend landed flat on his face perfectly sprawled out directly at Amy Lee's feet and got so embarassed he ran to the bathrooms and cried for half an hour. But one of the guys from Korn saw the entire thing and almost beat the other guy's ass before security got involved. Then he went and found my friend and gave him a whole bunch of free signed stuff. Some of the people who told me about it said Amy Lee laughed when my friend got tripped, other's said she didn't, but they all agreed she also tried giving him a signed album and he was too embarassed to take it. Idk how much of that story is true, but I do know he lost his crush for Amy Lee pretty quick afterward and he based his entire personality around Korn after that.
Maiden fan here: Eddie is everything you make him to be. He's also the puppetmaster controlling the devil on Number of the beast, the murderer in Killers. He's a cyborg on Somewhere in time. He's the wickerman, he's a fucking tree for Fear of the Dark. On a Live cover he's even Steve Harris. He's a pilot on Aces High, and a samurai on their newest album.
3:00 Yes he's called Eddie the Trooper, not even a Maiden fan, just born in 1982 so I'm involuntarily privy. 10:05 Gaahl was the guy in the Headbanger's Journey interview that famously said "..............................................................................................Satan."
Gaahl from Gorgoroth actually kidnapped and tortured someone after he found them on his property. he tried making him drink his own blood while singing lullabies into his ear. he stated that he made him drink his own blood because he didn't want the blood to get on his carpet. He actually got off on self defense because it the person (or maybe people) was trespassing on his property or something like that. it's a very bizarre story
It was Dio. But Gene Simmons did it on the Love Gun cover in 1977. Well the artwork any way. He also sometimes played with his index finger and his pinky. So that’s were Genes deal came in, he just used to play with those fingers.
Also some background context, 9/11 is the reason why Twilight exists because Stephanie Myers based the vampire characters off the looks of the band My Chemical Romance Also the US Army forced Panamanian Dictator Manuel Noriega to surrender after playing on loud speaker for over 30 hours Van Halen’s Panama on repeat to similar effect as what was used in Gitmo. Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen with help from NASA developed pressure pads that could emit a powered signal when pressed that were used on the space shuttle to be retrofitted for use in playing pre recorded drum tracks that Allen could manipulate with his feet and right arm to aid in his playing during live shows.

He designed the Xenomorph, and its other forms, Sil from Species, and a version of the Bat Mobile. My band is named after him, GIGER. That man Gaahl tortured I think broke in, and he decided, "well since you're here...". Deicide I believe was ANOTHER band used, specifically with the song Fuck Your God for muslims. Classic joke, "What has 9 arms and sucks?" "Def Leppard." I don't know who is buying the black album because everyone has a copy, I assume you get one when you're born.
