Jamie, I appreciate how you don’t try and compare all bikes with your race bikes like many reviewers do. Every bike can be appreciated for what it does when in its element. I have owned 12hp to 160hp bikes. They were all a blast when used for their intended purpose. You are truly a motorcycle enthusiast, not a motorcycle snob.

Recently sold my 2006 Road King that I put 94,000 mi on! The last 35,000 mi was pulling my homebuilt trailer for my 2 Dogs, 80 lbs each, to ride in. The King never stranded me or let me down!

Nice to hear something positive about Harley-Davidsons even though I am a BMW guy. Writing is not just about maximum horsepower and the shortest time from point A to B most of the time at least for myself it's about enjoying yourself. Nice video

I absolutely love the HD Road King Classic (I wish they were made in the US). The simplicity, the spoked wheels, the white wall tires, and the avalanche of aftermarket parts. Such a joy and beauty to behold. For my retirement, I purchased a brand new 2012 Road King Classic (blue/black) that I configured with my preferences. It had the touring trunk, the HD GPS, the BOOM audio twin speakers, adjustable backrest, etc. Unfortunately, in 2017, the divorce lawyers required a sacrifice and my dream motorcycle was lost on the chopping block. But I digress. I’m 56 years young and have been riding since I was 13. I’ve lost count of the number of motorcycles I’ve had the pleasure to ride and own. Having said that, my 2012 Road King Classic was the best riding experience I’ve had on a motorcycle. I’m retired now and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to own one again, but at the very least I have my fond experiences. No one can ever take those away. If you own one, enjoy the good times and make lots of memories.

All Harley Davidson motorcycles for the US market are produced in the US. More specifically however, they are assembled in US factories.

@@swblaze7611 I should have said, I wish they were sold in the USA. It’s been a while since the Classic Road King, with “leather” bags have been an offering in the USA. Last time I checked (2 year’s ago), you could find the Classic, new in Mexico.

The 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, is among the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of motorcycle designs. The 2003 Road King Classic is the personification of a Harley Davidson.

Long live the King! It's been 40 years since I have owned and ridden a motorcycle. I'm studying my riding videos and am scheduled for the 3-day Harley Riding Academy class at the end of this month. Getting ready. My sights are on a 2021 Road King!!!

I traded in my Harley Davidson Streetbob for a Road King last weekend. I do a lot of highway riding and this bike is amazing. So smooth and so comfortable. It also handles the corners better than my Streetbob. It just rolls in so effortlessly.

I’ve been riding BMW bikes, a GS 1200 Adv for the last 12 years. In 2018 I bought a brand new Road King Police (available in HD dealer network in Europe). With my 6ft 6’ it was the only Harley that was comfortable enough (single seat, which is higher and further back). I love that heavy sob, in 2019 I rode it much more than the GS (which handles much better btw.) :-) I do recommend :-)

I ride a K1300s. I took a Road King, the same one you're riding, for a test ride and loved it. The brake pedal reminds me of something ripped of a Massey Ferguson tractor. I kind of like it. As you said, it's a totally different kind of ride.

I've really grown fond of the Road King. To the point that I'd really like to own a Road King Special... 114 engine and blacked out, not chrome. The way it rides is just above everything else, even other Harley touring bikes. Because also note... Harley classes this bike, not as a Cruiser, but as a Touring bike. So they agree with you. It's not for around town so much. They have other bikes for that.

  • @donnellans

My only suggestion would be your use of the rear brake versus the front brake. Harley Davidson has great ABS linked brakes. Same rules apply whether you’re riding a big bike or a smaller bike. Most of your stopping power on the street comes from the front brake.

I really appreciate the review! Waiting a long time to see you review a Harley. Happily surprised you chose the road king. Looks comfortable. Need to try one to compare to my BMW RT for long-range comfort.

Jamie! Another excellent video, Sir. It's great that you are expanding your horizons and trying out the big heavies! They are great, aren't they? Not the bike you are going to do a lap time on, for sure. But that is not the point of these bikes. The point of these bikes is to enjoy the ride and actually see your surroundings as you go, as opposed to everything just being a blur. I ride a Victory Vision and to me that bike is so luxurious compared to the other bikes in the stable! The Road King is a nice way to go because you don't have the heavy fairings that say the Road Glide and Street Glide bikes have, but you still get the nice wheel base and luggage. So thanks again. See you in the next one!

Great video, only thing I disagree with is the lane splitting and city riding. I have a 2013 street glide that i ride every day, no car. Im able to lane split on it just as well i did on my smaller bikes and ive found that more cars will give you more space to pass on a bigger bike as well. Ive had sport bikes but nothing compares to my harley, its even fun in the canyons.

Riding a big Harley is a unique experience, but not everybody's cuppa tea I guess. Your review pretty much echoes my experience with the RK. A joy cruising the open road, but you sure feel the weight during those slow manoeuvres. I took a RK on a cruise down Bells Line Of Road and the Putty Road in NSW last year and loved every minute of it. So much torque that you rarely need to drop below 3rd gear for most bends. 😊👍

The Hero, Blob , watch what the police can do with a big Harley in a parking lot. Just takes some practice. I have no issues, but have been riding all kinds of bikes for hundreds of thousands of miles.

In brief. They don't really like corners, they're not very fast, they're really heavy and they have terrible brakes. However, they are comfortable if you're going for a long ride on a straight paved road.
When there are so many other bikes that are comfortable, corner well, accelerate much faster, easily cruise at far higher speeds and even have good brakes it's no wonder Harley Davidson is now a failing business. Especially given the fact that they remain relatively expensive.

Just sold my Road King few months back and while I do miss the ride, I absolutely do not miss how much of a piece of shit it was. Different seals leaking everywhere, belt destroyed by a pebble, throttle cable snapping off, pannier latches breaking, bolts backing out even after loctite, dumb shit.
Please do something about that microphone of yours, it sounds pretty bad. And what are those boots?

    • @Dave-sw2dm
      @Dave-sw2dm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ilya S , how old of a road king was this bike? How well was it cared for? They haven’t had throttle cables in many years. Throttle by wire. Sounds like you had a bike that sat around and wasn’t cared for.
