    Thank you for making video's man. As someone who has also lived in Korea for multiple years I find it so interesting to hear your stories, who has been in Korea for decades longer than me. The stories of how Korea has changed and how you have changed. Thank you for making this content

    I really like the places you show on your videos. There are plenty of channels that show the crowded, touristy, flashy places but it's really refreshing to see the ordinary, typical neighborhoods that Koreans live and frequent in. Plus, your insights and stories as a foreigner who's built a life in Korea is fascinating. Have you seen the youtube channel igobart? He's a Dutchman who's married to a Korean artist and makes videos on all the neighborhoods of Seoul. There are supposedly over 250 administrative neighborhoods in Seoul and he's embarking on a project to document all of them.

    I am now catching up on all the old videos that you posted. Thanks for sharing your some of your most favourite haunts for food in Seoul.
    One of the biggest things that I noticed since returning to Korea is the push towards customers having to order their meal via a computer. I truly miss the human interaction when chatting to the waiter or waitress which sometimes allows the opportunity to have more 'service' in Korea. Funnily enough I have one of my very first vlogs in Seoul from last weekend and thought of you Mike.
    Hope all is well. 😊

      Thanks! I've been a big fan of the kiosks showing up in more and more places. The first place I saw them was in Burger King a decade ago or so, and I was happy to see them in regular eateries. I just find them so convenient. But now upon reading your comment, I think you're right. I hadn't considered that aspect of it. There's also the problem that everything is so expensive right now, so even when you do have more opportunities to interact, I think there may be a bit less willingness to hand out freebies.

    I love your boring places 😁👍 especially this market was such an older beauty, the glass roof was amazing 😊. We’ve been to a similar one in Busan and it was a great little adventure to explore all these small businesses. If I have had enough space in our luggage I would have bought so much more stuff. But we’ll be back to SK and Seoul next year for sure.

    Yeah, I use the elderly eater metric too. Never lets me down. I live in a new neighborhood in Suwon, very low elderly eater metric. The places with self serve panchun don't usually have a lot of old people, but I do like the places that have self serve panchun, since there are some things I love, and some things I don't touch, and hate to be wasteful

    • @MikeFromKorea
      @MikeFromKorea  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We need a new metric for all the newfangled restaurants that fewer elderly visit. And I need to get back down to Suwon to see how much it's changed. It's been over a decade since I last visited and it was already different from how I remembered it.

      Me, too! Back in the day, we could chuckle at some signs and shop names derived from subpar translations (a couple of my favorites that have stuck with me: "Lamb Carcass", "Coffee and Sand"). These days, that's quite rare, and more often I'm seeing English names that are intentionally punny/cute/etc.

    It's so funny about your wife's metric for finding a good restaurant. I follow an account with a Korean (husband)/ Canadian (wife) couple that live in Seoul. They shot a video in their favourite Korean restaurant and mentioned how they were the youngest guests and said the exact thing as your wife. My metric for Asian restaurants is if it is filled with that ethnic group it is legit. If it's filled with white people I run the other way; This metric has not failed me.

    • @MikeFromKorea
      @MikeFromKorea  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do the same thing when I go to the States. I took some relatives to a Korean restaurant in Georgia last year. When we walked in and I saw that the majority of the customers were Asian, I knew we were in the right place.

      @@MikeFromKorea Have you ever dined at STONE BOWL HOUSE? The channel Eater has a Ktown series hosted by chef Matthew Kang. He travels mainly through the States, but he has done episodes in Korea and Canada also. He has done several episodes in Atlanta and STONE BOWL HOUSE is on my bucket list if I ever visit Atlanta. The chef is a rockstar Grandma who is so committed to her craft. It also has great reviews. Although this could be out of date, but I did not realize Atlanta had the third largest Korean population in the U.S.!

    • @MikeFromKorea
      @MikeFromKorea  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@skatingcanuck9837 No, I'd never heard of it. But I see it's in Doraville. That's kind of the center of the Asian population in Atlanta. I had no idea of that until a few years ago. I needed to go to the Shinhan Bank branch in Atlanta (or thought I did, but long story) and that's in Doraville. So many Korean restaurants there. I even found a 떡 shop and bought some for my relatives to try.
      But even outside of Doraville I've seen more and more Korean stuff. A while back, I saw a church in the neighborhood I grew up in south of Atlanta that had Hangul on the sign. And that restaurant I took my relatives to last year is in a town well south of Atlanta. I took my wife hiking at Kennesaw Mountain once and we passed several Koreans on the trails, then saw several more at the restaurant we went to for lunch. It's such a sea change from when I was growing up there.

    Hi! So quic! Thanks! But actually I interested in authentic places in your opinion, cuz rating of cafes you could find on instagram or tik tok, but something less fancier but still good - kinda harder to see there. So If less fancier, kinda "better", ha ha. I know a lot about Korea actually, but its hard to see it authentic side from perspective of view from normal person, like not a fancy traveler who visit and shows those popular cafes from instagram ratings.
