This has really helped me. My cistern was filling up just beyond the level of the overflow causing water to trickle out of the overflow pipe outside. I figured the ballcock might be adjustable, but wasn't sure I was doing the right thing, but, your video sorted that out for me - mine is like the second one you showed. I needed to remove the ballcock first though in order to get at it properly. Unfortunately, when I did that, a washer and a red plastic bit fell out, so now I'm trying to figure out how to piece it all together so that it works again.
I have two toilets with practically the same valves, so I was able to disassemble the other one in order to see how it was all supposed to fit together. In the end though, I decided to replace the diaphragm as the old one was quite old and it was no longer springing back properly when the piston moved out.

I have the old ancient one like firet one...the valve wont stop trickling even if i hold ballcock up....please help ive ran out of macguyver fixes on it x
is it best to fill the cistern to just below the overflow ? i could get say another inch or so of water in ours ...find the pan doesnt clear as well as it ought to , cheers

The nut on the adjuster is very tight, and I need to turn it clockwise for less water as my overflow is "pouring" out.

Best just to replace the valve. They are very cheap.

Yes get it as close as you can Steve.
@@dereton33 cheers...anything else to look at to increase its flush, its a 9 ltr , in my mind it needs to move the water faster to get things moving
No without changing the diphram washer.

@@dereton33 would there be any point moving the rod /wire along the pivot arm...maybe pull it up a bit quicker , its a new siphon
