John Deere 50 Two-Cylinder Tractor Pull - Salem County 4H Fair 8/08/14

- One of the first tractors to pull at the Friday night show during the Salem County 4H Fair in southern New Jersey. Very good crowd of people and a nice lineup of tractors at the pull. More John Deere's than usual. Here is a nice original 1954, '55, or '56 John Deere 50 tractor, straight off the farm, still used every once in a while. She ran really good with the tall pipe on it. Pulled in the 5500 lb division 1 class with very few extra weights added. The kid managed to lug it all the way down 173 feet, 3 inches. Great pull and lots of torque for a small 30 HP two-banger. She sounded great.
Ask that guy how exactly he would open up the governor more when the tractor was already under full load? That tractor isn't going to run any faster than it is right there under load unless you have the extra power to do so...which in this case it does not have.
+ANDY MOTL That guy would be my grandfather who owned a 50, 60, and 520 years ago. I don't think he was running wide open but was close to it.
On Friday night I was at a tractor pull until midnight. One of my friends pulls a 1950 JD G and I help him with it. I help him start it puts weights on and anything else that needs done.
That's awesome. Don't see many G's at the pulls. We're friends with a lot of the farmers that pull here. Some have Farmalls but one has a souped up JD 60 just like the one we have, and one has an R, 620, 820, and 830 that he brings. A lot of the pullers around here are also members of the gas engine club so they always show their tractors at both county 4H fairs.
My and my buddy are running stock horse power and tractor. In my opinion when you build a tractor your a person that just likes to win all the time. I think it also takes the fun out of it but our stock tractor has actually beaten built ones before.
I agree and I do see some stock tractors pull more than the modified ones. I've seen a couple of these two-cylinders pull all the way down to the end. They make a lot of torque at low RPMs so they pull a lot slower but can go a lot further.
