I adopted a dog that would flinch every time I reached to pet him, then a week later they called the shelter and wanted him back. I said F-You he was showing signs of abuse and I refused to put him back in that condition.

I can never understand abuse to a pet. Like you spend the money to get them, feed them and such, if it causes someone so much grief that they feel the need to abuse it why waste the time, money and effort on owning it if they are just going to treat it so poorly. The corgi my wife and i adopted was only in the shelter for a single day and they said he was severely abused so we weren’t even able to take him home right away. Luckly the shelter had a vet on staff so they wanted to make sure he was medically okay to go home first. He needed medication to lower the swelling on his head. They were surprised my wife and I wanted to adopt him even thought he had medical problems and we couldnt take him right away. Didnt matter to us. When we seen him in that room i went sit with him and he was very loving. When we were about to go check out the other dogs as i left the room he gave me a single bark that melted and won my heart and we decided from that one bark as he called to back to us just before we left his room that he was the one for us. He wanted us and we decided we wanted him and now ten years later he is our happy healthy potato who loves to watch TV with me and loves playing tag i give him a little pat and run and he chases and jumps up on me then runs from me while i try to tag him back. His name is Luka and he is my baby boy.
@@crossgear3042 It gets worse than the signs of abuse, they used him for mountain lion hunting and would starve him for a week before each hunt to increase his prey drive. This made him very prone to food aggression and we had to feed him in his crate while all the other dogs ate together. He also would overeat due to this so we had to measure his food while the other dogs were allowed to eat till full but he acted as if he was never full and would make himself sick. With careful control of his food based on his weight he lived 5 more years than his breeds normal lifespan.

I too have scooped! 😅 Hubby & I discovered our local shelter and started volunteering a few months ago. Last week we sat with a 6 month old pointer pup who was so, so scared he crawled around pancaked to the floor, piddling everywhere. It took 25 minutes of calm voices, treats (of course) and gentle pets. Eventually Speckles calmed, crept between us and pressed into my leg. I scooped and thought of you and what you do, Rocky. I get it! Only 4 days later Speckles was adopted. It felt good for both of us!😊

What suggestion would you give for a person who lives In an apartment complex also works 12-14 hr day? 3 to 4 days a week. I’d love a med size dog it worries me it’s unfair to the animal.

I adopted my beloved cat Lucilu from the shelter years ago. She was tiny, quiet, hiding in the back of her kennel, and everyone passed her by. My heart went out to her as I watched this over a few days. I asked to pick her up, she fell asleep in my lap and I knew I had to adopt her immediately. She is now in Heaven but she was my girl. Absolutely amazing. I love her and miss her. Sometimes the pets that are passed over become the best family members.

It is wonderful that of all the cats and dogs that you could have adopted, you chose the least friendly and closed off kitten. You truly rescued her from fear. It brings me to tears of joy that you chose her and gave her a good life. I am sure She is "resting in peace" having known everyday knowing that she was loved right up to the end. i actualy own a dog,but she`s a rescue dog,here is her story;we found her attached on a pole next to a house,her owner was letting her outside all season,even if it rained and snowed,so her owner told us that we could take her away and they did not care,so we adopted her and she have been here with us until 2018 and is still with us today,we named her kelly,she is really happy with us

Our shelter in Round Rock Tx is overpopulated with dogs and kitties, we took out cases of pedigree dog food wet and dry, kitty food wet and dry and the kitty lady stated that they need milk replacement for baby kitties that are left by their moms so off we go to Petsmart for that and nursing kits. We already gave money to our shelter, put going out to it in person to see wire cages with dogs in them on the floors, volunteers walking the dogs talking to them, caring for them warmed our heart. When we were in the parking lot, we met a couple unloading blankets, lots of them out of their car, they said they did an outreach and the response was overwhelming. Texas has no restrictive euthanasia but it is good to know our shelters are trying to prevent this happening. I believe that people in the community knew this, they would help but media is not happening. I looked up advertising and Lamar advertising (USA wide) gives free billboard to animal shelters. I wish and hope they take advantage of this.

In my town. We started a nonprofit to take over my social dog pound which was a horrid concrete block building. Built a state of art facility with volunteers now dogs get vet care behavior training adopted right out of pound.
People need to educated that these pets are not disposable.
My state is finally trying to stop putting animals to sleep. They fired the lady in charge of the Humane Society. She was putting animals down so fast. They also requested more volunteers, and many people stepped up.
Humane means humane so a human should always do their best for the dogs and cats/cats.
Thank goodness Rocky rocks keep it up kiddo.
She would probably thrive in a foster home. The noise seems so much for her.

My son had a dog 2 years ago who had evidently dropped off in his front yard. He looked the same as Dory. He named the dog JP. We took him to Vet and the Vet told us he was a cross German Shepard. Also these dogs are the sweetest most congenial dog we have ever owned. JP never meets a stranger and only wants to love people. His size alarms people but they soon find he only wants you to love him. JP is a part of our family.

It's funny you say that. I have been watching Rocky for a while, and it dawned on me in this video, that children could use some of the same thing. Children in schools who feel alone, children in foster care who have no one and nothing constant. I know there are organizations, but Rocky's approach of just being there, in a calming, soothing way, and letting the creature come to him, so to speak, there are lessons here for dealing with traumatized children too.
Dory and other dogs are so expressive and desperate for love.

Yes! I noticed when she was eating the treats that she a slight underbite. It's ever so slight, but that may be why she did not take the treat out of his flat opened hand.

What a sweet heart. Those wrinkles will change once she has a home and has love. I rescued a dog (no one wanted) it took a year for her to relax and blossom, but she did! She lived almost 18 years! May she find her forever home soon!... and watch that face change!

She's a-Dory-able! Looking forward to seeing her come out of her shell and reclaim her ability to play. She loved the head massage! She looks like gsd and boxer maybe with some sharpei or pit. But she also looks heartbroken, so I hope she gets a ton of love and cuddles and massage!

13:06 It's the same in Germany. Lots of people bought dogs and cats when the coronavirus pandemic started, and when they went back to their usual life (without lockdows, with more contacts to other people and without home office) they brought them back to animals shelters. This is so sad. 😔

Receptionist in a vet clinic nine years got burned by the vet .love my clients. Lived the pets miss it .but I have a anysryism and the sound would give me a migraine ....one day I threw up in the surgical sink.....they didn't even send me home . Oh I also adopted my golden .now researched and gone miss her best dog.i saved her from eiuthaniasia ever
I was a nurse and the doctors are the worst part of medical care. Sounds like vet offices are the same. I'm very sorry that you had an aneurysm and suffer migraines. Sending you love and healing energy. ❤
I would love to adopt her. My boxer is pretty sick and losing ground. My heart is already broken, and people throw away these babies because they don’t get it having a dog is a life commitment.

I adopted a dog from my local shelter. I was looking for a greyhound type, but I would take one dog out and play with him when I came. One day the staff told me that he would howl when I left, he chose me, and I took him home ❤

Research has shown gentle classical music is soothing for animals.
@@lynnfaulkner9351 Reggae too. My last vet's office played it, because they said the predominate beat mimics a dog's heart beat and it's calming to them, reminding them of their mothers, along with them spraying mother dog pheromones.

This dog looks a lot like my Black Mouth Cur. The greatest dog I’ve ever had. The book, Old Yeller, was written about a Black Mouth Cur. My dog is also so gentle with children.
My sister and her family here in the NE adopted a BMC from the South. Not very common in the SW but becoming moreso seen in shelters there.
@@laurat1129 Yes, thank you! I got my dog from the humane society in Orange County, California. They didn’t know what he was. He was listed as a shepherd mix. This is the most loyal, protective, loving dog I have ever had.

I actually did the opposite, well with a cat, I adopted from a refuge, as she was the only one who was hiding under a blanket. When I asked her story, I was told she had been found half beaten to death by youths, so I knew she was the one who really needed a lot of love.

Thank you Rocky for all you do. If it weren't for calling shelters and a community of animal lovers, i wouldn't have been able find my mom's lost dog. I wanted to share this story as it meant everything to find our dog. My mom had to give up her dog while in the hospital and homeless. We don't know who our family member gave her to and i knew if was a shelter she'd be scared and feel just like the dogs you sit with.
So I posted in many local groups to get her picture out there to find any information on where she might be.
Someone messaged me about a dog that was near thier home that looked like her. my mom went out there and was reunited with her dog. We were so so grateful to have found her. the family wanted to keep her and my mom got to say goodbye since she could no longer care for her and knows she is in a great home.

I stumbled across this channel one drunken night, not long after my little dog (Henry) had crossed the rainbow bridge. So I'm not certain if it's either the memory of that, or just the fact that these stories are so moving, that is the reason behind my wet face every time I tune in! Here in the UK we lost our King of Pups, Paul O'Grady (For The Love of Dogs), a little while ago, but you guys are really filling that void! Love what you do, you wonderful, wonderful people.

I rescued a male dog who looks just like her. We don't know what he is officially but our vets guess was a black mouth curr. Ours has crooked bottom teeth to go with those amazing wrinkles. He has been a fantastic dog who is incredibly smart. I hope she finds a home soon 🩷
She is such a beautiful girl. You can tell she has never experienced love like she got while you were sitting with her. It breaks my heart knowing she is where she is mentally - but fills my heart knowing she is well on her way toward a fulfilling life with all the love she craves and deserves.
